Alpha SEALs #5

The SEAL Next Door

Rate this book
Rule #1. You don’t chase after your best friend’s sister…

Brianna Miller’s life is in complete chaos. She’s moonlighting as a cocktail waitress after getting laid off, her older brother was seriously injured in Afghanistan, and the man she’s pined for since she was a teenager is back in her life, hotter than hell and more tempting than ever.

Navy SEAL Matthew “Gator” Murphy has only one goal when he returns to Pensacola, Florida for a long weekend—to welcome his best friend home and then get the hell out of there. There’s no way he can face his buddy’s injuries, not when he was the one who convinced him to enlist in the Navy in the first place.

When a gorgeous blonde waitress catches his eye, the last woman he expects to see is Brianna, his best friend’s younger sister. The chemistry between them sizzles as Matthew tries to stay away from temptation, but sometimes a raging inferno begins with only a spark.

The SEAL Next Door, a stand-alone novel, is book five in the addictive Alpha SEALs series.

This is the fifth book in the series.

When a best friend, next door neighbor and SEAL gets injured in the line of duty, our hero returns home to welcome his friend back. Besides with his injuries he might help him with the adjustments as well. The problem is he's only got a few days off before needing to be back on base.

Our heroine is the best friend and next door neighbor to our hero. She's had a crush on him since her teens. However, once he finished school and signed up for the military, at the same time as her brother, she hasn't seen him and him her. However, when our hero returns home, he wonders who the heroine is before realizing its the girl that used to run behind him and his friend.

However, when he goes over to help her and realizes who it is, he can't get her out of his mind. Over the next few days they are thrown together to get things ready for when her brother comes home.

The night before her brother's to come home, our hero with a few of his teammates who were able to fly in to welcome the friend home, go out to a bar as they do. However, what they end up witnessing is the heroine as a waitress and her nearly being sexually assaulted. They end up stopping it just in time, but it causes her and another waitress their jobs. They don't care because they were done with the job anyway. However, when the hero finds out why the heroine's been working there he goes nuts.

However, this is the spark their attraction needs to get them both into bed. However, when something else happens to the brother and best friend will it push them together or pull them apart? Will their new relationship be able to handle the stresses of work, family and distance?

I really liked this book and was glad to see the author back on track. Anyone who knows any soldier who's been to battle will tell you some make it back and others are left in the battle. I liked how the author handled the situation and it was well thought out. You really identified with all the characters within the story including the few surprises.

Loved This Book!
Loved reading about Matthew “Gator” Murphy and Brianna. Book #5 in the Alpha SEALS series is definitely a sizzling winner! The storyline and characters seem real—life doesn’t always go the way we plan. Matthew was the boy-next-door who always looked after best friend Beckett’s younger sister Brianna while the three were growing up. Years later, Matthew is now the handsome, hot Navy SEAL next door who wants to take care of beautiful and sexy Brianna…in all ways.

Can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

A very short, cliched romance with zero depth and a predictable (but abrupt) ending.

The relationship between the protagonists was too shallow and their behaviour was irresponsible at best. Their decision making skills were also deeply flawed.

The best thing about 'The SEAL Next Door' is that it was a very quick read so at least I did not feel like my time was wasted.

It is a great pity that Jameison missed a number of opportunities to explore the effects of PTSD on victims' families.

In summary, this offering is almost instantly forgettable and has few redeeming features.

Need to know

Please let me know the date when Brent and Ella's story comes out. That looks like it's going to be an interesting one. I don't know for sure that there is a story, but there should be.

The SEAL Next Door
Alpha SEALs, Book 5
By: Makenna Jameison
Narrated by: Sophie James

Whenever Makenna Jameison releases another Alpha Seals book, I know I am in for hours of good entertainment. I love military romance and each one of these just make my heart warm. This one is special for so many reasons. First we have Matt. He has come home to help his best friend, who lost a limb. While home, he bumps into Brianna, his best friend's sister and while he can't wait to return to his Seal team, there is a chemistry with Brianna that cannot be denied. What will happen now? Will he be the next of his friends to find his true love? Jameison packs so much into her novels. They deal with relevant issues while letting us enjoy a romantic love story. It's one of the things I love about her writing, plus her characters cross over from book to book, so it's like coming home while listening. It's another winner!

The other thing that makes this series so good is the Sophie James. She brings these stories to life. Each character with their own voice, she keeps consistency from book to book and just narrates the story perfectly. Her performances always keep me entertained and I watch for her releases!

This was part of a bundle I purchased called SEAL HERO'S.

Not much of a story here, and that was disappointing because I usually enjoy this author. This is a standalone story with crossover characters.

The h's brother is a Navy Seal was lost a leg and then tries to commit suicide (so be warned). We don't know how he attempted it. Nothing was discussed on PTSD which was a shame.

The MC's just didn't click for me, lacked character development. Sex outside of married and bedroom door wide opened and many times.

Lord's name used in vain and crude words. No actual military action in this book. No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, little on romance heavy on lust. I can't improve on the blurb, just giving you extra tidbits to decide whether you want to purchase. (ljb)

This was only okay

I gave this book a rating of 3 because it became very predictable when comparing it to other books in this series. For example in the beginning all the books start out with the female and male characters denying any interest in each other. Then once they admit to interest they deny themselves the pleasure of making love. Then, once they make love they can't seem to commit to a long term relationship. I wanted something different this time. I appreciate the author's time and effort in writing this book but I don't think I will be reading another one :(

Liked the girl next door -finally see how awesome she is - boy next door troupe! Was expecting more drama/suspense based on past books but the author does a great job keeping you tuned in to the story. Author has left an opening for several more books in the series and I can't wait to find out what happens to the rest of the cast of characters!

Great book

This is the fifth book in this series and it can be read as a standalone (but characters from the previous books do make an appearance). I enjoyed reading this book and the characters were interesting. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Just too darn short...

But still a great read. I would have to say this was the shortest story so far. Will love see if she writes the brother's story...

The SEAL Next Door ~ Alpha SEALs ~ Book 5

She's the little kid in pigtails who followed him and his best friend around all the time. She's also six kinds of forbidden; his best friend's little sister and she's all grown up in all the very best ways. Matthew Murphy dreaded going home because his best friend wno's also a SEAL is coming home too but he has a career ending injury. Brianna Miller's life currently is a bit off the rails. She was laid off from her job. She had to give up her apartment and move home. She's lied her parents about her job. She's working at a bar that she hates. Her brother is coming home in a wheelchair. Finally, Matthew doesn't even recognize her. Somehow though spending time with him makes things right, at least temporarily. Their time together is electric and steamy. There are promising possibilities that include him but now there's a new wrinkle. One that is a definite game changer.

Loved it

Well another one bites the dust. Matthew only thought he didn't want a relationship until Bri walks back into his life. Long time friends become lovers and Matthew and Bri get their HEA. All relationships have their ups and downs and theirs is no different but things work out in the end. Worth the read.
