Everyone’s best friend, Nina, disappears, leaving only faint traces and ominous evidence. No one knows where she and her Lexus have gone, or what happened to her money. While the residents of Arroyo Loco may be quirky and prone to bickering, they always snap into action to protect one another, at least as long as Freda keeps those pastries coming. Once again, Estela Nogales and her neighbors must search for answers, and fast, fearing one of them may be next.

Both as a PI and as an author and reader, I have always found searching for a missing person to be a more satisfying plot than a murder investigation, because it at least might have the happy ending of finding that person. This is a great "Where is she?" story about one of the residents of Arroyo Loco, which is a place I love to visit. Can't wait for the next book in the Estela Nogales series!

Full of suspense

Great writing and interesting story. I loved all of the twists and turns in the narrative. Also loved that it is a clean mystery that doesn't rely on gratuitous sex, profanity or violence to tell the story.

Another good one

I really like the arroyo loco characters. Of course Estelle shiner and scout are my favorites. This is my 3rd book and I’m looking forward to the next one.

Twisted title

I chose this book thinking it was about a mom who was missing. The book was good but I didn’t see the connection.

A carousel of events takes place when Nina disappears!
The police is not very interested in trying to trace what has happened to her so the residents start their own investigation!
Good story line

The story seemed long and dragged out. Good editing, though.

This is the third book in the Estela Nogales Mystery series by Cherie O'Boyle. Estela Nogales her birder collies and her friends at Arroyo Loco village are called upon to search for their missing friend, Nina Arraiga. Nina's daughter Angela receives a ransom note demanding $50K for the safe return of her mother. Detective Antonio Munoz is investigating the kidnapping of Nina. As Estela investigates the mystery of Nina's kidnapping, something doesn't add up and Estela starts to question if there us more to the kidnapping than meets the eye. I really enjoyed this wonderful cozy mystery novel.
