Arline Zatz has added five brand-new tours to this new edition of her well-established guidebook, as well as bringing up-to-date all of its old favorite rides. One of New Jersey's most prolific and honored travel writers, Arline Zatz knows what's appealing to touring bicyclists―and exactly where in the state they can find it. These 30 tours lead you past the state's most intriguing and most beautiful spots. The author's commentary along the way tells you everything you need to know about the sights you'll see and the road conditions along the way. The five tours new to this edition include trips past an herb farm; around Merrill Creek Reservoir; along the pounding surf of the Atlantic coast; and among an array of colorful public gardens.
I basically only read the chapters covering areas of NJ I am at least familiar with, or there is a chance I'd actually bike there in the near future. But I give it 5 stars because I really appreciated the author's thoroughness in describing the rides and mapping them out. Lots of information on the specific wildlife to look for on each ride, and also tips about where to get off the bike and go for a scenic hike. There was a bit of history included regarding each location, as well as little notations like, 'If you pause on this road near this farm, horses will definitely come over to the fence to say hi,' or, 'when you turn this corner be prepared for an explosion of black-eyed susans' ~ these are not direct quotes, but you get the idea. :)
