"I fell in love with a brown-eyed angel in the middle of a football field, and I hadn't even talked to her yet. All it took was her laugh." - Mason Connor
Professional football player, Mason Connor, had the perfect life. Blessed with good looks, crazy skills on the field, and more money than he knew what to do with, it never occurred to him something was missing. Not until he saw her.
Looking out over a field of green, he saw his future and knew his world was about to change. He just had no idea his Angel would put up such a fight.
A fight he planned on winning.
"I don't want to like you, Mase, but I'm afraid I already do and that scares me." - Joanna Welch
Joanna Welch had two relationships in her life, both with the popular-sexy-jock type.
Neither ended well.
So when the attractive and cocky Pursuers quarterback began pursuing her, she wasn't interested in experiencing a three-peat.
However, the more time she spent with Mase, the harder it was to pretend he was only a sexy smile and hot body. He was funny, charming, and smart, too.
Fumbling her stay-away plan, her heart's in danger of being intercepted, and Jo's worried she's about to get sacked. Only Mase wasn't just looking to score...
He had another kind of championship ring in mind.
This is a full-length, steamy, contemporary romance. While Pursuing can be enjoyed as a stand-alone, it is part of a series started with Alluring and contains some spoilers. ***Due to sex and language, it is recommended for persons over 18.*** HEA
Sarah Curtis is a writer of all things romance. She loves nothing more than a sexy alpha male who falls hard for their heroine, almost always in spite of themselves!
A life-long resident of Southern California, Sarah shares her writing den with her childhood sweetheart and very own alpha male. When she’s not writing or dreaming up plotlines you can find her wrangling her plethora of very spoiled felines—she currently has five, yes you read that correctly, furry companions. Sarah is a reader before anything else, and her TBR mountain is higher than Everest. She’s also addicted to watching cooking competitions, especially involving baking! Of her own admission, she rarely cooks, but she’s up for the occasional birthday cake for her children as long as it involves the opening of a box.

Pursuing is book three in the Alluring series by Sarah Curtis. I have previously read all the books in this series, both books that came before and the novella that comes after. I finally came back to read this one and finish off the series. I adore this cover and since football season is just getting going, this was the perfect time.
Joanna “Jo” Welsh has lived in Las Vegas all her life. She has worked for Child Protective Services for six years and loves her job. She has bought herself a small starter home and loves her life. Jo has had two serious relationships, both with the “jock” type of guy. The last one which was in college, left her feeling like a fool when she discovered her ex had been cheating from the start. She has vowed never to let herself feel that way again, and to stay far away from jocks.
Her boss has volunteered her to be a liaison between CPS and a sports camp run by the quarterback of the Las Vegas football team. She knows the kids who participate from the homes she manages will love it so she doesn’t really mind. But, not being one that really follows football, she definitely wasn’t prepared for the sexy quarterback on the field running the camp!
Mason “Mase” Connor loves football. He also loves giving back to the Las Vegas Community and this sports camp is one of his favorite ways. When he saw the newest arrival of kids, he saw her. All it took was one look and he could see his entire future. Mase might have been a little wilder when he first started professional football but he’s not any more. But he had never found anyone that he felt like could be someone special to him. Until her. Only she didn’t seem interested. Maybe a few glances but she kept her distance. That’s okay. He was up for the challenge.
“I’m coming for you, angel, and make no mistake, I plan on winning you.”
First, I LOVED Mase. This man was everything I adore in a perfect book boyfriend. He was a dirty talker, jealous and possessive as heck, bossy, but also loved so big and so strong, leaving no question as to what he wanted and how he felt.
“Mase on a mission was an unstoppable force.”
I had a little bit of trouble with Jo in the beginning. She was so bent on not letting Mase in, on keeping her walls up due to her previous experiences. I never like it when a main character judges a potential love interest by her/his previous hurts. But Mase was persistent. He never doubted his abilities in wearing her down and winning her over. I did enjoy seeing Jo grow throughout this book. I also loved her dedication to the children she cared for. She loved them all and did everything in her power to make their lives better.
This was a sexy, sweet romance that I really did enjoy. I also loved getting some glimpses of the couples from the other books. This also includes the sweetest epilogue. I love it when I finish a book that way and feel all warm and fuzzy.
Wow, the cover of Pursuing certainly grabbed my attention and made me think…American’s sports uniforms really make a head turn. A big guy walking towards you all kitted out is impressive, but once they walk past, you really, really have to see the rest. American football and baseball must have had their uniforms designed by a woman. No man would think about making a woman happy by bringing our attention to their fine assets. Unfortunately, not a lot of Aussie sports uniforms help a woman to study the assets of the players. Lucky baseball is getting a surge of popularity here. I love those tight pants ;)
Anyways…this is not a sports report. Sarah Curtis has brought us another modern day fairytale. In Pursuing, our prince charming holds a football instead of a sword, but he does protect the damsel in distress and saves the day. Mason Connor, is the star Quarterback for the Pursuers, and in his offseason, likes to help run a football clinic for kids. This year will be a little different as some foster kids will be included in the program. Joanna is a social worker who helps manage four foster homes. Part of her job is to hand pick 20 kids to be included in the program, and make sure they settle in. It does make more work for her, but giving the kids some fun will make it worth her while.
Mase is standing on the football field when he sees her. WOW!! He has never had a reaction to a woman like that. It felt like his heart had stopped, and only she could make it beat again. He HAD to know her better. When he finally meets her, she’s not like other women he’s met and dealt with. She didn’t flirt, touch or stammer. She doesn’t even seem interested in him. Hmmm… a challenge. Mase is definitely interested and hopes he can talk her around. He’s a good looking guy, plenty of money, and a great career. Unfortunately, for Mase, his list of assets are the reason she isn’t interested.
Jo meets Mase and puts him in the Too Good Looking, Too Much Hassle category. She’s been there done that, bears the scars, and doesn’t want a repeat performance. Funny thing is, he won’t give up. He had her attention from the beginning…he is gorgeous after all, but now he’s being sweet and saying the loveliest things. How can she protect herself, when he makes her feel so good?
With a wee bit of manipulation, a lot of sweet talking and some good old fashioned begging, Mase talks Jo into moving in with him for five days to help look after his nephew. Hopefully, this will give Mase enough time to show Jo that he sincerely likes her and wants to be with her and not just get in her pants.
I really enjoyed this steamy love story. Mase and Jo are a match made in heaven…and unfortunately, this is why it ended up being a four-star instead of a five-star read for me. Mase was just too perfect. The insta lust and connection I get. The devotion, commitment, and possessiveness were just a little too quick. They hardly knew each other and he was talking about being together forever.
Honestly, this was a really good read. There’s a storyline besides the love story, and it kept things moving well. The sex scenes were really hot and, and plenty of them. The communication between Mase and Jo was there from the beginning and neither held things back or lied. There was no unnecessary angst, and what little angst there was, was short-lived. Maybe I’ve got cynical in my old age, but it all seemed just a little too good to be true. But we can all dream, and Mase is definitely dream material. I like my fairy tales...especially with lots of steamy bits in them, so I will definitely be reading more from this author.
I received an ARC of this story from the author for an honest review

I am in the minority here. As you can see, half the shelves indicate a 4 star read. So why didn't it work for me: 1. His blatant disrespect for heroine's wish. People who know me knows well that I am a passive feminist. By passive I mean I don't actively go to feminist rallies and protests. However. I am shameless and proud feminist and I have a clear voice about abuse and domestic violence. In the third or so chapter heroine tells hero, I am paraphrasing, "i am NOT going to get involved with you, I DON'T WANT to get involved with you DESPITE my attraction. it's MY choice. Tell me now before we get started on this working friendship whether you agree or not. Or back off. because I am NOT getting involved." the hero tells he'll respect her wishes only he NEVER had the intention of doing so and kisses her on the FIRST night very sexually which was within 24 hours of this conversation. So on top of everything he’s also a liar, dishonest and manipulator. Now if this guy was your average Joe, not a smooth talker and was ready to get a little rougher with hand rather than words, a LOT, if not all of you, WILL have a problem with him and agree on sexual harassment, yet, because his doing this behind the facade of a caring guy, it’s suddenly acceptable? Let me tell you, no it isn't. We have to hold a seminar about 15 times a semester in our uni to teach guys "GIRLS. ARE. NOT. TRYING. TO. PLAY. HARD. TO. GET." "NO. DOES. NOT. MEAN. HARD. TO. GET" "GIRLS. DO. NOT. FIND. RELENTLESS. CHASING. ROMANTIC." yet a book like this, and it undoes our hard work in about 2 hours. A job well done indeed. 2. His blatant disrespect for heroine's wish. Throughout the whole book, not a single time I remember him asking for heroine's opinion over something. The only time I heard the word compromise was when even he finally realised that it's creepy as fuck to ask someone to move in with you after knowing them for a week. so he naturally does the most normal thing and invites himself over to her place and takes over once again. 3. His rich AND fulfilling sexual history vs her ONE sexual partner who cheated and her lack of experience. WHY? why is this trope is even romantic. NO ONE has ever gone down on her. She doesn't know how to give a head. How is women's vulnerability sexy for another women to read when the guy in topic is sexually experienced AND he ENJOYED his previous sexual experiences? Thanks for small mercy that hero wasn't a manwhore, but heroine hasn't had sex in FOUR years. REALLY??? if you can't make your heroines virgins, you have to make them celibate for a long time! Why do the females have to be untouched and pure and inexperienced? Do tell. 4. His jealousy over her sexual past when his was CLEARLY way richer than hers. I KNOW jealousy isn't a rational feeling, but his double standard and misogyny was REALLY showing. Once again, average Joe with beer belly and a little rougher around the edge, little less sophistication, not many would like his alpha possessiveness or his jealousy but because he's attractive in all sense, he gets sympathy? No. Bottom line, no matter HOW sweet and caring the hero APPEARED, he was not respectful towards the heroine or treated her as his equal. Granted he'd not cheat on her because he's not a cheater, but love or his attraction or action has nothing to do with it, because I saw none of that throughout the story. Also really sick of love at first sight with a beautiful (read stunning looking) heroine who's beautiful inside and out -*snickers* you fucking can't see the inside of someone when you're married for 50 years let alone at your first glimpse. That is the most superficial ideal I have ever read. There was nothing to love about the heroine at first site except for her looks (she's really great, yes, AFTER you spend 2 weeks with her, but so are other social workers who doesn't look like supermodels), and I really don't like to be valued or devalued based on my looks.
A couple of people told me they would love to spend Sunday reading Pursuing. So I cheated just a bit and hit the publish button early. Surprise! It's live... Here is the link until GRs catches up :) http://www.amazon.com/Pursuing-Alluri...
Loved it! I feel lucky to have received a copy prior to the release date, from author Sarah Curtis.
Each book in this series is a standalone story with interconnected characters. When I read about Mason Connor in the two first books Alluring and Engaging, I was dying to know more about him. I knew then, just KNEW, that I will love him.
Mase was a wonderful character. He was just down right yummy and dare I say absolutely perfect. A lethal package in more than one way. Joanna was a great heroine. She was smart, independent, feisty and strong. I was beyond thrilled with their love story. I loved them together.
Pursuing was a well written steamy romance that did not need to have added drama and flair to keep your interest. This is one of my favorite types of reads, where you have two strong characters who don't make you want to rip your hair out. Sarah Curtis did that simply by writing a great story with lovable characters. I don’t care how many times I read about people falling for each other so quickly….because personally I like it. The emotions were there, the connection was there, the passion was there – it was the best combination and I was salivating over it.
We also got an amazing Epilogue. Ms. Curtis has wrapped up Mase and Jo's story nicely. It was also great to get a glimpse into the future of other characters from the two previous books, Alexis and Jack, Cassie and Gage. I think there are little openings still there for more stories to develop...maybe Chris's story will be next? Hope so.
If you are looking for a great new adult romance, this is it! It is steamy and sweet all at once.
Congratulations Sarah Curtis for writing such a beautiful story. Looking forward to read more from you!
I loved Mase. He is the perfect alpha hero. Protective, sexy and a little sweet. I love the care he took when handling Jo's insecurities about their relationship and that he never waived in his pursuit of her. Out of all of Sarah Curtis's heroines Jo is the definitely the most fun. I found her likeable and relateable. And the romance between them was HOT.
Overall, I highly recommend Pursuing if you are after a hot low angst romance.
HEA Cheating/OW/OM Any couple separation Angst Level: Low Heat Level: High Safety Group
4.75 Mase stars!!!!I absolutely love him! He was the most sweetest, loving, hot, sexy, beautiful, patient, handsome, and perfect man(in my eyes )! I even like Jo(herione ). Sure at times she was a bit annoying with her trust issues but It didn't bother me much. I understood why she felt the way she did and honestly couldn't blame her. I didn't really like how she couldn't tell him I love you till something happens but when she did I really felt it. Even when she didn't actually say the words I felt them. I really enjoyed this. I think Mase was mainly the reason why. He never gave up and was very understanding! I loved the epilogue but I wanted to read more:)
safety : pretty safe read. We know Mase had his fair share of women but it doesn't go into details. He never loved ,never did relationships and Jo was special (he even tells her that )*swoon*! Jo had two boyfriends. She never loved them. They both ended bad (reason why she has trust issues). Last boyfriend she had sex with (bad sex) he even tells her she gave bad head (she only did it once). That part I didn't care much for because she is telling Mase this when she is about to give him oral. She is scared that she won't do it right and he won't like it. He tells her everything she does he loves and always will! he also tells her that ex of hers didn't deserve her sweet lips on his dick! lol at that point he is angry thinking how someone else touch her, fucked her and he gets jealous . he does say he knows it's not fair to think that especially they didn't know each other. He also says he knows he wasn't a saint but he regrets it all and wishes he can go back and change it. for Mase it's been at least three months since he had sex (I wish it was longer).Jo it's been four years. they don't use condoms togther. it is said he always used them before. Not sure about Jo but I would like to think she did.
This was a sweet low angst read, and I liked it for the most part.
Mace was super sweet, slightly alpha, never wavered from his love of the heroine. He was sort of romance book boyfriend royalty.
The heroine Jo was just OK for me. For the first part of the book I wanted to throat punch her for how bitchy she was acting towards Mace. The guy was nothing but nice to her and she kept acting like a judgmental bitch. I get she had issue from a previous relationship, but I find it hard to warm up to someone that acts that way to someone who was just SO nice. It's called having manners, she should have tried using them! Thankfully she gets better as the book goes on, but her whole "I don't trust you" insecure pushing away routine continued to annoy me. Add in the fact she couldn't even say "I Love You" until , well I just never overly warmed up to her.
It wasn't a bad book, and I enjoyed it a lot, it just wasn't "WOW" material to me! I will still check out books by this author going forward though. :)
Another solid read. I loved the hero Mase. He was funny, laid back, sweet, and a all around good guy. I liked the heroine but I had my issues with her about how she deals with the relationship with the hero at first but I am glad she comes to her senses. I definitely liked the social worker aspect. The epilogue is fantastic!!! The epilogue takes it up and ends it on a very nice high note.
Low Angst Sweet Social Worker Heroine Famous Football Player Hero He Chases Her Love at First Sight Fast Paced Charming Lighthearted Character Driven Steamy
I haven't been able to read the previous books in this series due to personal preferences but I'm so glad this worked out for me! It was awesome! The H was mostly everything I want, the way he chases the h was to die for! It is very insta-love on his side and thankfully I don't mind that so it was great for me to see him all over the h from the get-go.
I even liked the h! Sometimes the h's who needlessly push an amazing H away annoying me but I didn't feel that way with Jo. Maybe because Mason didn't take no for an answer and pretty much bulldozed his way into her life.
So, why not five stars? That's just another one of my personal preferences which is that I truly dislike reading about an experienced H paired up with an inexperienced h. Although none of the Mason's past women showed up to create drama you definitely get the gist he's been with his fair share of women, while Jo had only 2 past boyfriends and terrible sex with them.
Another great book from Sarah Curtis! I'm drawn to the Alpha men she writes in her books. I really like that you don't have over-the-top drama and the H in her books are very loyal and protective of their women. I like that she has the females hesitant to start a relationships with the H because part of the appeal is watching the H pursue them relentlessly.
Mase was such a great character. He was a very easy going person but anything to do with Jo amped up his Alpha tendencies. While I hate that Jo made Mase pay for her past relationships, it did give us readers a chance to see the Alpha side of him. I really liked reading about the couples from the other two books and that epilogue was so freakin sweet!
Love! This book was right up my alley! It had a hot alpha who fell in love with his girl and wasn't going to let anything stop him! She was a bit reluctant so he had his work cut out for him. Low angst and sweet, I will watch for more to come from this author!
This is a reread of Pursuing and I have to say that I love Mason Connor now more than ever!
Jo’s past relationships have left her unable to trust a certain type of man. She’s determined to not make the same mistakes again. So when Mason walks onto the football field with his dazzling smile and sexy presence, she instantly puts up her guards. However, before she knows it, Mase has finagled his way into a dinner date and then he’s brokered a deal with her that she finds impossible to say no to.
As soon as Mase laid eyes on her he knew that she was his. Unfortunately, when he attempts to get to know her she shuts him down pretty quickly. With his easy charm and quick wit he doesn’t have to work at gaining a woman’s attention but with Jo he’s willing to put in the hard work to win her over. Soon, he wants it all, but in order to have it he’s got to prove to her that she can trust him.
I absolutely loved this couple together. Mase was so totally dedicated to Jo and intent on winning her over, not just for a night but forever. He’s the true definition of an alpha hero and each time that part of him reared itself I found myself grinning from ear to ear. Jo was a strong independent heroine, a social worker for child protective services, and had a heart that needed to give and receive love. Her past mistakes made it hard for her to allow it free reign and she struggled to learn to accept what Mase was not only telling her, but showing her as well.
This is such a perfect book to curl up with and just simply enjoy. The angst is relatively low, the steam is off the charts sizzling, and the characters are so real you’ll wish they were your friends. I loved absolutely everything about this book but add on an epilogue that was perfection as it gave us a look at characters from previous books as well, and I was in book heaven.
One word that describes the goodness that is Pursuing, Mase. He is absolutely perfect in every way. I think he is my favorite hero Sarah has written. He’s hot, funny, alpha when he needs to be and sweet. He’s the perfect mix.
In the beginning I thought that Jo/Angel was going to really annoy me. But then I started thinking how I would feel in her situation and I can’t say that my thought process would be much different. And even though she tried to fight their pull, she didn’t do a very good job of it lol. Mase wouldn’t let her and being in her thoughts lets the reader know that she didn’t really want to either.
Of course catching up with the rest of the gang was awesome with a 5 year into the future epilogue that allows us to see just how they all ended up. I love Sarah’s books and will read anything she puts out there.
I don't know what I was expecting when I bought this - I mean, sports, obviously, but maybe something dark? Well, don't let the cover fool you: what's inside is super sweet! Confession: I'm not usually a fan of books written in the third person, but this story was so charming I forgot all about it!
I had some time this morning so I... finished a book, wrote 4 reviews, computer crashed, 3 reviews gone! I’m a little frustrated right now. Will rewrite when I finish...
What a sweet story! I’m fond of Sarah Curtis’ Alluring series and I really liked this one. It’s a great lazy afternoon read. It has a funny hero in Mase, and I think Joanna is my favorite heroine of the series.
I adored Mase’s goofiness. I also loved that once he found his girl that goofiness was tempered with a bit of seriousness about his woman. He was funny, sweet, and a tad bit alpha and bossy when he needed to be. The insta-lust was a bit OTT but I quickly got over that when he admitted surprise at the bolt of lightening thing.
Jo was a great h, and I appreciated the social worker aspect even though it didn’t get too far into it. I also liked that we had a heroine who wasn’t abused and came from a good home. Jo’s insecurities did get on my nerves a bit, but she knew they were stupid so I forgave her.
The communication between these two was refreshing with no unnecessary angst. I do wish the action had been introduced a bit earlier and had a more drawn out conclusion. I say this because the book maybe seemed a bit too tame. Even with that small issue, it was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.
Spice’s rating: 4 refreshing stars
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review.
I was honored to receive an ARC (my first!) from the author, Sarah Curtis. I loved Mase and Jo. They were so great together and I love how Mase knew Jo was it right from the beginning. I'm a fan of insta love so this was right up my alley. He was a perfect alpha...protective, possessive and so sexy.
It's low angst and no cheating. There's some mention of Mase's past but nothing that's upsetting at all. I highly recommend this whole series.
I was given an ARC of this by the author in exchange for an honest review.
When i was offered the chance of an ARC, i jumped at the chance to read it!! After reading AND enjoying both Alluring and Engaging, i knew i had to read this. Believe me when i say Sarah Curtis did NOT disappoint. Another absolutely brilliant read, i found i couldn't put down, even if i had wanted to. It was compelling and very well written. It was filled with laugh out loud moments and lots of tender moments that pulled on my heart strings and will pull on every other reader's heart too. I absolutely loved the fact that we got a glimpse in the happy every after of not only Mase and Joanna but the happy ever after that the characters from the previous two books enjoyed! It was a fantastic end to an even better series. Although i felt that Sarah managed to tie up all the loose ends and wrap this series up in pretty little bows ;) , I do hope that this isn't the last we will see of the gang. I have really enjoyed it and would recommend this to everyone!!
It has insta-love (on his side) and is cheesy. I'm ok with insta-love if I know it going in and it didn't tip my scales of being too cheesy. It's a fine line for me and this one stayed on the good side of it.
Can be read as a standalone. I never read any of the rest of the series and never felt lost or like I was missing something.
These type of books are my guilty pleasure. I absolutely love them and can't read them fast enough! I love insta love, hot alpha males and the females that can't resist them!
This was an ok read. If you like a light sports romance, where the MCs are adults who experience insta-love, then you might really like this.
What I liked: 1) The alternating, dual povs. 2) The H. He was very sweet in his pursuit of the h. 3) No ow/om drama or cheating. I can't stand that crap. I think that's why I've been sticking with books where the MCs are adults. 4) I'm not usually a fan of insta-love (nor a believer in it, although insta-lust is a different story), but I do like how the H acknowledges that his feelings for the h make no sense. The fact that he knows it's crazy makes it a little less crazy. Am I crazy for feeling this way? Maybe.
What I didn't like: 1) More telling, not enough showing. The author reveals a lot through inner monologue and that's not my preference. 2) More editing is needed. Also, enough with the parentheses already! (I really don't like them.) 3) Sudden epiphanies where one MC realizes the depth of feeling of the other MC are too sappy. 4) This was a cheeseball fest. The H was a little too good to be true. 5) Too many sex scenes. I skimmed almost all of them. OK, fine. I skimmed them all. They were repetitive and made it seem like the love connection b/w the MCs was really just about sex. 6) The plot was simple, almost too simple, and more character development was needed.
