** This Book Was Previously Titled Deranged **
The zombie epidemic has begun, and the world is reeling from this onslaught of mindless, merciless killers. In a desperate attempt to rid the world of a horrific new disease, humankind poisons its own ecosystem, and dooms not only the zombies it fights, but also the very people it is trying to save.
At sixteen years old, Kala is the sole survivor in her family after the first wave of zombie infections tore through her hometown in southern Florida, only to then be gunned down by an FBI sharpshooter while trying to escape the diseased city with her friends. When she finally wakes up, she finds herself in a dangerous new America. Her only hope is to travel north with her newfound companions, where they hope to find food, shelter, and protection. Their path will not be easy, because zombies are not the only killers roaming the streets. Hope balances on the blade of a knife, and survival is the only option left.

This is a different kind of Zombie book! This story starts from a unique point of view and will pull you in immediately. Just when you think you know what’s going to happen, it goes in a completely different direction.

An awesome read and a strong 5 Boundless Stars book! As a plus, the narrator does a great job! Also, Deranged reads excellently alone, I couldn’t even tell it was a part 2...Beth

Having loved book 1, I was really looking forward to listening to this one and couldn't wait to start it. Book 1 was all about the spiders and the virus, book 2 is about the ramifications of this and the aftermath of the Zombie outbreak.

As if Zombies and deadly spiders and virus carrying mosquitoes weren't enough, what's left of the human race have to try to survive the killing of bees and the poisoning of the soil so that now, crops won't grow and flowers etc won't be pollinated! All the while evading the man eating Zombies!!

Meanwhile, Kala finally meets up with new people and together, they have to try to get outside the quarantined area before it's too late. How can she and her companions escape when the place is heavily fortified and protected by the army!

Once again, the author has created an action packed, nail biting and addicting read. The plot is fast paced and gripping, the characters are all we developed and written and it's easy to become invested in their story. I can not wait to see what else the author will come up with for these characters.

Melanie Ewbank did a great job with the narration. She was easy to listen to and held my attention throughout.

*I received a free copy of this but voluntarily reviewed it. This in no way influenced nor affected my thoughts.*

A thoughtfully written book about a possible extinction level event, caused by humanity's stupidity and tendency to overreact in a massive, and extremely ill informed way.
Kala is a young woman who is strong of mind and heart, her story is punctuated by moral dilemmas as well as life threatening situations. They are all described in great detail and I could feel her struggles as if they were my own.
There are also side stories; the apiarist whose whole life is falling apart, his pain is evident but he still has to protect his family. Then there are the scientists trying to find a solution, not all of them are altruistic in their endeavours. The scientific aspect only adds to the story, explaining in mostly layman's terms how the food chain is being affected and what this means for humanity.
All in all this book takes you through a whirlwind of emotions, it is a spectacular example of the zompoc genre, written in a way that keeps you glued in place until the end.
I really hope there is going to be a book 3, there are so many questions that I want answered.

It took mea while to figure out that the book title I read ( Ecocide) is the same book listed here in Goodreads as Deranged. The story is a continuation and feels like the second of a trilogy, but for the life of me, I don't think there is a third installment. I liked the story and the emphasis on the ecology. The characters were a little flat/ underdeveloped which really made me think that there would be at least one more.

I haven’t had the chance to read many zombie related stories, but this was a really good one! I wish I had read Book 1, prior to this one though. Either way, I’d definitely recommend this story to others. This was a fast-paced, interesting story that held my attention the whole time. I loved the descriptions that were used, specifically when it came to describing the zombies. Needless to say, I had a movie playing in my head the whole.

Questions/Comments:

Calla is sixteen? That was really hard to believe considering all the random things she knew and the way she acted.

So Calla ends up getting out of the airplane hangar at the beginning. She was able to change her clothes but still had no shoes. There was no mention of her finding shoes unless I somehow missed that part. There were also no comments regarding her smell considering she had peed herself at the beginning.

How did Calla know about all the different bones and body inside parts?

I found it strange that given how smart Calla seemed she thought her car would have no problems running after having sat for three months. I just did some research to find out that a car battery typically dies after one month unless it’s a higher end car, which Calla’s car did not sound like.

Given what the characters or people of this story were going through, why were they still relying on God to help them? They were praying, calling out to him, and then wondering why he wasn’t helping.

Best part of the story was when Calla and her group where able to get through the military blockade into the city. I was on pins and needles wondering what was going to happen to Calla and her group when the guys in the hummers were charging to the gate. The the surprise RBG's they shot off at the military guys. Very surprising! I kind of wished that her group and the ‘hummer’ guys would have met up.

The second book in the series continues the story of this unusual zombie apocalypse. The invading parasite and the panicked human response has left the human race teetering on the edge of survival. The most scary thing about this book (as in the first book also) is the viability of its occupancies. The knee jerk response by the populous and the government is not only terrifyingly realistic but more than likely probable. It makes you realize just how fragile and interconnected our ecosystem is and how it is humans themselves that are potentially the greatest threat to mans survival.
The story is told through the lives of various groups of people, some new and some present in the first book. From the scientists, to farmers, to individual survivors banding together, the characters have depth and appeal, and you quickly become invested in their lives. The various stories interweave well into one another forming a scary, suspenseful, captivating storyline that is not only very well written but also chillingly possible. This book was provided to me at no cost by the author in exchange for an honest review

Sixteen year old Kala is determined that she and her new friends will survive this new zombie epidemic brought on by mosquitos. But it is not only the Zombies the new world must recover from because in trying to wipeout the disease carrying mosquitos the people have started a major chain reaction of killing off the food supply. The circle of life has been destroyed, but can it be fixed? Humm, Zika maybe?

This book although sci-fi makes you think about the Zika and what really should be done and how far we should go to eradicate such diseases. The author is very insightful and has a action packed, suspenseful great book. Narrator, Melanie Ewbank does a great job on all of the characters, and I just love narrators like her that take the time to make the story. They read each character as if they are that person at that time and it makes you the listener feel as though you are there in the middle and it is happening right then and it is awesome. Thank you for that experience, I hope to come across more of your works in the future. Maybe even to see what Kala is up to next.

This book was not as good as the first, it seemed rushed. The character development was lacking in the new characters (especially the ones who were trying to save the world). I would've liked more development there. It was difficult to follow at times because the tenses kept shifting and the point of view was shifting, but the story line was still something that I enjoyed. Again, if you like The Walking Dead or anything similar, you will love these books. I hear there is a third one, but I haven't found it yet... it's probably not out. I think young adults will really love these novels/series, because the protagonists are teenagers and they can relate. Besides that, there is such a zombie craze right now; everyone loves a good zombie story.

I was given a copy for free in exchange for my honest review.

Read Pathosis first, in order to know exactly what is going on in this book
Kala is a young woman who is strong of mind and heart, her story is full of moral dilemmas as well as life threatening situations. The events that have happened after the parasitic-zombie-like virus is super scary to think about. What if this could happen in real life? That's how I felt after reading this, It was so good. This story is well written, and lots of science in it to. I think anybody who likes post-apocalyptic type stories would really enjoy this book.
