A brief appearance on a television show involves Tessa Crichton with the affairs of the famous Deverell theatrical family, especially when Eliza, daughter of the matriarch Deverell, appears from the distant South Seas island that she's been living on with her anthropologist husband. The initial verdict when Eliza dies is suicide, but there seems to be no motive for that. The more Tessa learns about the family, the more she realizes that their fatal charm may live up to its name.
