As Hong Kong prepares to return to communist China, Victoria MacKintosh struggles to save her father's Hong Kong-based company amid the upheaval and falls in love with a Eurasian man
I'm torn between giving this a three or a four because truth is... I loved this book. A lot. It was so fascinating to0 read.
Here's the thing: I didn't understand half of it. Honestly, my mind can't wrap around the politics and business side of this story. I knew what was happening in a general sense but I couldn't follow the story perfectly.
Justin Scott is definitely someone I want to read more books from. I love his writing, the characters... and the fact that this was set in China. That was my main motivation for reading this. I love China and reading about it. Hong Kong is such an interesting place. So maybe this book was just set up for me to love it? I don't know. Either way, if I ever see Justin Scott in a thrift store I'm snatching it.
This book, published in 1991, tried to predict what the turnover of Hong Kong from Great Britain to China would be like in 1997. It was a kind of interesting take on the situation, but a clunky book overall.
