I'm delighted by this book! I really like that Corinna not only shared her experience on how to entice the viewer through a mouthwatering photo but she also explains in depth the technical part of photography. Her lighting chapter is excellent and will give you great insights on how to achieve certain mood using light. I'm a portrait photography but an enthusiastic food photographer. Photographing food is somewhat different from photographing people and as you read this book you'll find out why. This is a good book for both experienced photographers who want to learn how to photograph food and for anyone in the food business who wants to be able to photograph their own work. Her technical chapters are easy to read and get right to the point. I love that she gave us some great DIY tips showing us that you don't always need expensive gear to achieve mouthwatering images. I highly recommend this books for bloggers, restaurant owners, and any photographer that wants to learn the nuances of photographing food.

I received my copy of Food Photography through a goodreads giveaway.

This is a really nice intro to food photography, especially if you already know a little about a camera. But even if you’re newer to photography the book does cover some of the basics, like hardware, camera settings, exposure, etc. There are some good sections on lighting, how to use both natural and artificial lighting and the various modifiers that can be used to sculpt the light over the subject. And she goes into a lot of detail on food-specific topics, such as how to style and work with the food, using dummy props before the actual shoot to keep food as fresh as possible, and lots of tips and techniques to work through tough shots. There’s also sections on creating and using props of all sorts, and on post-processing your images.

I most enjoyed the projects section, where she steps through a number of different food photography shoots: salads, soups, main dishes, desserts, and drinks. She creates a shoot for each theme, stepping through from the beginning to the end. It’s great to see how she works each project, making adjustments as she goes.

I also enjoyed the quick test at the end of the book. She lists a number of topics that were discussed throughout the book, then shows a series of images. You match the topics to the images which demonstrate that topic. As simple as it sounds, and as short as it was, it’s a great way to test yourself on how well you’ve absorbed the material.

The photos throughout the book did a good job conveying the topics, the writing was clear, and Corinna did a great job conveying what makes food photography special. You can tell her passion for the subject. Can’t wait to give some of the techniques a try.
