Hakim Abul-Majd Majdūd ibn Ādam Sanā'ī Ghaznavi, Born: 1080 (Persian: حکیم ابوالمجد مجدود ‌بن آدم سنایی غزنوی, Arabic: سنائي الغزنوي‎) was a Persian poet who lived in Ghazni between the 11th century and the 12th century in Persia (The Ghaznavid Empire) . He died between 1131 and 1141.

ابوالمجد مجدود بن آدم سنایی غزنوی یا حکیم سنایی (۴۷۳-۵۴۵ قمری)، در شهر غزنه به‌دنیا آمد. وی از بزرگ‌ترین عارفان و شاعران قصیده‌گو و مثنوی‌سرای زبان پارسی و تمام تاریخ ایران است، که در سدهٔ ششم هجری می‌زیسته‌است. سنایی از جمله تاثیرگذارترین شاعران تاریخ ادبیات فارسی بر شاعران نسل‌های بعد از خود بوده است. برخی معتقدند که سنایی شاعری است که برای نخستین بار عرفان را به صورت جدی وارد شعر فارسی کرد هرچند شاعران پیش از او نیز در اشعار خود مضامین عرفانی را بیان کرده‌اند که می‌توان به شاهنامه فردوسی اشاره کرد. عرفان سنایی با آن‌که از سخنان قلندران و اهل ملامت نیز مایه می‌گیرد، عرفانی انسانی و معتدل است. ظاهرا در ابتدای زندگی سنی مذهب بوده ولی بعد از تحول روحی مذهب سنایی شیعه می‌شود.
سنایی طی عمر خود سه حالت شخصیتی مختلف پیدا کرده‌است. نخست مداح و هجاگو بوده، پس از آن وعظ و نقد اجتماعی روی آورده و دست آخر عاشق و قلندر و عارف شده‌است.

This is how all poetry books should be written. Straight to the point. I read this book in the past but I read it again now just to see clearly again. Sanai is connected to helping people see clearly again. I felt like I was losing myself in the world around me but Sanai helped me find my way again.

A short book, a pocket sampler, but delightful! Short excerpts of Hakim Sanai's Walled Garden of Truth translated in a way that immediately take flight in the heart. Highly recommended!

Hakim Sanai (dichter) ging op pelgrimage naar Mecca and Medina. Toen hij terugkeerde schreef hij dit prachtige gedichtenbundel. Hij maakte grote schoonmaak in zichzelf en alle verkeerde illusies, die hem verblinden, gooide hij weg. Hij opende zijn hart voor God en dichtte over zijn verbinding en liefde voor God.
