I grew up on a small farm on the outskirts of Sydney and as a keen horse rider, often competed in local gymkhanas and even broke in a few horses from time to time. As I was surrounded by animals, I decided at an early age to become a nurse, however I couldn’t stand the sight of blood and so opted for a career in teaching. It’s a bit ironic that I married a surgeon.

I read my first Mills & Boon novel when I was 17 and that encouraged me to continue reading romance novels; the lure of the tall dark handsome hero, who in reality I fell in love with and knew I was going to marry on our second date! After marrying a year later, we moved to Scotland with our six week old baby so my husband could work and study for his MD in surgery. After the birth of our second son we came back to Australia to settle in Tasmania.

I went back to University and up-graded my teaching diploma to a degree and then went on to do a Masters but still I felt as if something was missing. I sat down one day and began writing and everything clicked into place - I had finally found ‘my brilliant career’! I used to write from instinct rather than a specific plan, but now, so many books later I find a loose plan doesn't go astray. An idea will pop into my head, sometimes it will be just a simple phrase or a what if question and I'm away.

Writing is a skill that can be learned and the best way to learn it is to read and to write. So many people feel they have a novel in them and very probably they are right-the only trick is to get it out. My advice to ‘would be’ writers is to write, write, and write even more. Carry a notebook at all times and jot down ideas. And like any other activity the more you do, the more it feels comfortable.

I hope you enjoy my stories and look forward to hearing from you.

Yet another story with a complicated angsty backstory overshadowing the real time events of the romance.

This is the timeline of the romance without the backstory:

H blackmails heroine into accompanying him on trip to Monte Carlo to hunt down an errant teenager in his care and her brother who presumably put her up to it. If heroine doesn't go with him, then he'll call the police on the brother for stealing his car and some money.

They go to Monte Carlo and share a suite since the heroine doesn't have much money. Sexual tension ensues.

They find the two teenagers who are working and are planning on paying back the money. The girl left because her mother's boyfriend was threatening to rape her. The heroine talks the girl into going to boarding school after her summer of working in France is over.

H/h have sex after heroine decides she wants a fling. Hero decides she is the one after three days and gives her a ring.

Heroine's mother sells their story to the tabloids. Heroine decides to leave the hero for his own good. Hero lets her go and then two days later goes to England to fight for her. Also he's bought her a villa in France. HEA.

That's it - that's the fluffy story superimposed on a backstory of the hero's skeevy father having an affair with the heroine's "trailer trash" mother when the heroine was 16. The hero's mother was in the hospital with terminal cancer when the heroine's family moved into his house. So yeah - the H/h had some bad blood between them. Add in the hero identifying with his all-forgiving many times betrayed mother, the heroine with OCD and freaking out over a coffee cup and how things are arranged in her suitcase and the heroine's first sexual encounter occurring because of a bet between school mates and you have the weirdest mismatch of tone and plot devices.

Anyone of these things - the heroine's sexual past, her OCD, her father in prison and her mother still flitting from man to man would be enough to challenge a relationship. But the author has to add in very low self esteem, body issues with her weight and overall appearance. The heroine is a hot mess and I don't see how she can suddenly relax in her OCD and feel beautiful because of three days with the hero.

The hero fell in love with the heroine because the author told him to. He was a great guy but some of his generosity made no sense. Why the hero would feel he had to pay for one of his father's ex-mistresses daughters to go to boarding school to get away from her mother's rapey new boyfriend is beyond me.

Now I have a headache.

WOW MS Milburne knows how to write a story that gives the reader an emotional journey to a HEA one that will keep you smiling as you turn the pages I love the feelings that she brings out in me as the reader while I get to know the characters.

Clementine Scott, Clem as she likes to called has lead a pretty rough life growing up with her beautiful mother who flits from one man to another, Clem's father is not around and she has a half brother Jamie that she cares very much for. She has body image problems stemming from a terrible time at the age of sixteen although she is beautiful now she is still not convinced, she works hard with books old books collecting them and is always looking out for them. But when a blast from her past walks into the shop she is stunned and reminded of her teenage years Alistair Hawthorne was back in her life and when he insists that she accompany him to Morocco looking for his step sister who has run off with Jamie where will this lead?

Alistair is furious when his step sister runs off with none other than Jamie Scott he has not seen Clem of Jamie for ten years when is father has a fling with their mother but he needs to get is step sister back and there is only one person who can help and there is a spark when they meet again Clem has grown into a beautiful woman who appears to be strong but with a vulnerability to her how long will he be able to deny this pull?

Yes pick this one up sit back and enjoy you will not want to be disturbed while jetting across Morocco and getting to know Alistair and Clem and see them enjoy a very sensual journey that opens up a lot of wounds from the past but in turn helps them fall very much in love I do highly recommend this one it really does tick all the boxes that a beautiful romance requires I loved it.

There aren’t enough adjectives in the English dictionary to describe Melanie Milburne’s latest offering to Harlequin Presents. His Mistress for a Week swept me away from page one. The angst. The drama. The intense scenes. The provocative writing... It took my breath away! I savored every sentence. I growled expletives at Alistair, such a brute at first. I cheered Clem on when her razor sharp tongue and inward dialogue sliced Alistair to shreds—the dialogue between H/h held such weight. It provoked and it tantalized.

It's been ten years since Alistair and Clem laid eyes upon each other. Then one day Alistair waltzes back in town and uproots Clem from her quiet, non eventful life. It’s a storm between her and Alistair who would not take no for an answer. But they’re but determined to have their own way but Alistair is convincing enough to persuade Clem in the most ruthless way. Want to know what happens next? Just imagine having these two hot headed and temperamental rivals together… Explosion. I thoroughly enjoyed this delicious story and highly recommend it to all fans of romance! You won’t be disappointed.

Highly, Highly Recommended

A more modern based romance than this book cover suggests. I liked Clem who is the main female character. Although not very believable it was nice from an escapism point of view.

His Mistress for a Week by Melanie Milburne is a book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. It is an uplifting story about Alistair and Clem reconnecting after 10 years apart, it describes how they break the mould and are respectable people despite the bad decisions both their parents made.
The story grabs you from page one. I immediately fell in love with the characters, Alistair and Clem. Clem is insecure but extremely feisty, she stands up for those she loves and is very witty. Alistair is a strong “no nonsense” type of guy who takes charge of any and every situation, he is deeply caring and protective of the people he loves.
I literally couldn’t put this book down until the last page. I would highly recommend this book to all romance lovers who like an easy flowing story that is witty, fun, sizzling and has a happy ending. Well written, Melanie Milburne!

His Mistress for a Week by Melanie Milburne
I feel that Melanie Milburne is one of my favorite authors. This story between Clementine Scott and Alistair Hawthrone was so intriguing. Clem’s brother, Jamie disappeared to Monte Carlo with Alistair’s step-sister Harriet. Harriet seems to be a good influence on him. They had taken off with Alistair’s car though.
Alistair decided that Clem needed to come with him since she would know how to handle Jamie. Forced then to spend a week together they finally realized they had a craving for each other. Alistair was more experienced then Clem, however in his arms she came alive. When Clem had encountered Alistair ten years ago it was not that way.
Alistair and Clem did not have great role models to grow up with. Clem’s mother cared about herself and being with a man even if that man treated her children badly. She was always calling Clem for money for this or that. Alistair’s dad had an affair while his mother was dying. Alistair felt the loses a brother and his dad had taken down all the pictures of the little 2-year brother and that hurt him.
Jamie and Harriet were good for each other and had found jobs and were becoming happier and stable young people. Harriet was now okay with going on the boarding school. Jamie had decided to try to work his way into hospitality and make that a career choice.

I really felt for Clem. Having a father in jail and a mother who was incredibly useless. Bringing up her younger brother and continually being used for money by her waste of a space of a mother. She had a lot to deal with. As well as having very low self esteem about her weight. She continually but others first and forgot about her own needs.

Then we have the hero Alistair. His mother was terminally ill with cancer. And his father couldn't deal with it. So he met Clem's mother and moved her into his house. While the mother was dying in hospital.
It's a lot for Alistair to deal with, losing his mother and another woman moving into the family home with her two kids.

Fast forward to the present time, and Alistair has been left in charge of the teenage daughter of one of his fathers exes.
He intends to ship here off to boarding school. Harriet isn't happy with this, and ends up running off too the French riviera. With Clem's little brother Jamie. Taking Alistairs car and money.
Alistair hunts down Clem at the bookshop she works at, demanding she comes with him to hunt down the runaways.
While away things get steamy between them and quickly passion becomes love.
Can they find ever lasting happiness despite the issues holding them back?

Another fantastic book by Melanie Milburne.

Mistress for a Week is a passionately warm love story of two adults who have the worst parents in the world and have spent their adult life trying to rise above the rottten examples that were set for them. Bought back together by their naughty younger siblings Alastair and Clementine take off to Monte Carlo to find the missing wayward teens.

The past lives of Alastair and Clem were cleverly woven together and their love story was as equally spellbinding. I enjoyed their thoughts and verbal sparing and I think the younger siblings were an enjoyable asset to the story. It also showed you can’t judge a book by the cover because appearances can be decieving. Clem is a most imperfect heroine who spends her life looking out for everyone else. I loved that Alastair helped her grown into the beautiful swan she was.

It was refreshing to read a hero who wasn’t so macho and his inner caring bubbled up more than once.

A lovely read full of interesting characters who all deserve their happy ever after in the beautiful locations they were in.

HIS MISTRESS FOR A WEEK by author Melanie Milburne is an August 2016 release by Harlequin Presents series.

Clementine Scott had a humiliating night at the hands of Alistair Hawthorne ten years ago. But she would never ever let it happen again, would she?

Yet here she was. Forced to spend one week with Alistair while they searched for her brother. But she saw a new side to Alistair. Could she forgive him for the past? Because no matter how much she denied it, the attraction between them sizzled and scorched.

HIS MISTRESS FOR A WEEK would hook a reader in and keep her hooked right till the last page. You can’t imagine Clem and Alistair ever getting together but author Melanie Milburne brings them together convincingly by how they manage to work out all the differences and fall fast in love. The sensual and the emotional scenes shimmer and sizzle. And the fun come-backs in the story would keep you laughing along with them. Yet the emotions would keep you crying too.

Highly recommended for all readers of romance.

"His Mistress for a Week" by Melanie Milburne is a wonderful read alone book that was a quick, enjoyable read. Clementine Scott knows what it is like to be humiliated because Alistair Hawthorne did that to her 10 years ago. When her brother, and his step sister go missing Alistair forces Clementine to help him find her with the threat that he would call the police on her brother and have him arrested for taking his minor step sister out of the country. Seems like old habits are hard to break and they find their way back to each other.

Melanie has very well captured the goings on of people who are prone to get anxious very easily.

People who will sacrifice themselves for those who love and people who will withstand everything to protect those they love.

Many poignant moments in the story that made me go awww...

But there is one thing I take an exception to. I've come to know that Harlequin names the books and not the authors. What I had an issue with is the title of the book. ‪‎In my opinion it is degrading Clem in the story to be referred to as a kept woman when she is not one!

Apart from that, it's a sweet story.

What happens in Monte Carlo…Ten years ago (rare bookshop assistant) Clementine ‘Clem’ Scott clashed spectacularly with (architect) Alistair Hawthorne, when he comes home to find her in his bed, wrapped in nothing but a towel, and ready for seduction. Or so he thought, but really, she’d been assaulted, made fun of, and laughed at as the fat, funky girl with poor grooming everyone at the party. After the humiliation of that night she swore she'd never have anything to do with any man ever again, especially the arrogant Alistair who says she’s exactly like her gold-digging Mama who moved into his home will his Mom was in hospice! But when Clem's brother Jamie disappears with Alistair's father’s girlfriend’s daughter Harriet, she isn't given a choice…she will be going with Alistair to Monte Carlo to retrieve them! Forced together for one week, they quickly realize that their enmity masks simmering, sizzling lust, the have more in common than not and he’s been really wrong about her for a long time. They strike a deal: for one week only, all bets—and clothes—are off!

I had to read this book as I just started out as an editor of the Dutch translation of this book. It was enjoyable, quick read set in the now and the live of people in the spotlights. Classic genre type of rude hero becomes solid guy through insights of own mistakes and wins the heart of the heroine. Pageturner

I came across this as I had just 5minutes to choose a book from a very limited list that the vendor has at the railway station and this one sure suprised me.
Melanie is successful with all the emotional and sexual trauma that goes on in the protagonist mind.
Though it's not a page turner, it's a decent one which takes you on an erotic journey.

Not sure what to say. Read it in a few hours for fun. First real harlequin modern romance novel and it was cliche but I think that's the draw. Alpha rich Male hero with a poor body conscious understated beauty of a heroine.

Alistair Hawthorne is a man on a mission. Finding the recalcitrant stepsister and the hoodlum that is with her leads him to Clementine Scott. Clem's mother had a brief fling with Alistair's father and he was determined to get Clem and her wayward brother straightened out.

Clem never expected to have Alistair back in her life ten years after the nightmare lecture she received from him. Finding out her brother has stolen his car and money is even worse. Having to spend time with Alistair to track the teens down should have been the stuff of nightmares, but slowly he works his way in to her heart.

Clementine Scott has such low self esteem she feels she will spend her life alone and only worry about taking care of her brother and sending money to her mother. Plans sometimes go astray and in this case they are totally changed. Alistair Hawthorne is responsible for his step sister Harriet and finds she has run away with a Jamie the brother of Clementine and has taken money and his car. He confronts Clementine and tells her she must go with him to find the runaways. Ms. Milburne always delivers a fantastic story and again she has written a story that will draw you in from the first page. Clementine had a humiliating situation with Alistair years ago when her mother was responsible for breaking up of his parents marriage so the last place she wants to be is with Alistair but he makes it impossible for her to refuse so they travel to find the runaways. Alistair is an amazing hero and after his initial anger he realizes how difficult Clementine's life has been and so begins a relationship neither thought would be. Love has a way of slipping in when you least expect it but Clementine's self worth is so low that the real thing may pass her for lack of believing in herself. Another fantastic book by an amazing author

A sexy take on an enemies to lovers story!

Ten years ago, an ugly confrontation happened between Clementine Scott and Alistair Hawthorne that was mostly based on raw emotions and mistaken intentions. She was left with the attitude that all men were horrible and she had no intention of ever having a relationship with one again, especially the arrogant Alistair!

Fast forward 10 years and she's approached by a seething Alistair again telling her that her little brother has taken off with his step-sister and she has to help him track them down. She resists having anything to do with him, but he doesn't give her any choice if she wants her brother to be safe.

As they spend time together, the true story of what had happened years earlier comes out and they forgive each other for the misunderstanding. They can't resist the attraction that is flaring up between them, so they decide on a a one week fling ... will either of them be able to walk away after just one week?

Not bad, but required some suspension of disbelief. Very short, hurried ending. Still puzzled by author's continued use of the term "trailer trash" in a book set in England.
