(AHAH I love Thomas own commentary in the end of the audio book, because his dialect is a really extreme Stockholm dialect, I love it!)
This was really good! It had its moments but in the end I always wanted to hear more every time I started listening again. I could never predict anything and the end gave me goosebumps, even though one of the most interesting characters died, which is sad, but also interesting. What could happen next? Would love to listen to the rest of the books in this series!
It wasn't perfect though. There were moments in the book where I felt uneasy, and as usual I'm not sure if it was because of how one of the main characters was thinking or if it was just how the book was written. There were a couple of times when Alex King was proclaimed as a genius, by everybody, even himself. When he tried to teach the main female police officer his ways there was a lot of "good girl" moments, and her making obvious mistakes, saying things like a 12 year old would say to make his geniusness even greater. I'm still not sure if those moments were supposed to show how great Alex is, or if it just was poorly written character traits for the female lead, because it made her sound really blue eyed and stupid, and I hated it. All I heard during those parts were "good strong clever man gives advice to naive, young pretty girl". Yuck. I'm sure it could've been written in a better way.
Another small complaint I have is that it all feels very fairytale'ish. With the maffia, the "Godfather", everything went from feeling very realistic to very Hollywood-fake film. It was still interesting, but it shook me a bit out of focus.
Once again, I can't remember any name. I have a huge problem with names in books, it takes me a long time to remember them unless the character is really, really interesting. With a book its even harder because I don't have any face to go after. I struggled a bit, and may have mashed two or three characters together, but in the end I understood what was going on and why.
I also love all the bloody details of the murders. It makes them sound authentic, and I can picture everything in front of me. I've never seen anyone being shot in the head, but after this book I feel like I know how it would look. Horrible.
Also, that poor cat! Worst (as in it made me go "noo!") part in the book, by far. Even worse with him being so torn up about it throughout the whole book. It made me hug my own cat a long time after I had heard that part... Jikes.
Best part of the whole book? When the author (can't remember his name) had to hurry because his daughter "god kidnapped". My heart was in my throat and I think I listened to at least seven chapters in a row because I had to know how it ended! I'm sad it ended a bit anti-climactic but then again, I never saw that coming. Haha!
All in all, a really good book. Will absolutely re-listen to it in the future.
