Helka - A Burok-völgy árnyai

Rate this book
Különös események zavarják meg a Balaton északi partjának nyugodt mindennapjait. A tihanyi Soktornyú Kastély népe ünnepre készül: Helka hercegkisasszony hamarosan hivatalosan is trónörökössé válik. Ám hősünk unja a felhajtást, elszökik inkább a tiltott rengetegbe szamócázni. Mindeközben a közeli Burok-völgyben sötét lelkű teremtmények gyülekeznek, hogy a kegyetlen Bora vezetésével feldúlják a Balaton békéjét, és bosszút álljanak a hercegi páron. Helka legendája a Balaton elfeledett mítoszai közé tartozik.

Helka is a children's fantasy book, first installment of a trilogy. The very first step in the world of magic and wonder your kids can take from the age of 8-9. The world is built around Lake Balaton in Hungary and the book cleverly weaves a story around the most important landmarks around the lake.
We get to know an old mystery about the balance between the Lake, the Bakony mountains filled with forests and the coast, which is inhabited by humans. An old conflict, a fragile peace accord from the past, then a dark challenge arising from evil creatures and how Helka, the small princess and her companions go through their journey to save the Lake and everyone who lives in or around it.
I would recommend this for reading together with your kids, chapter by chapter arriving at the end of the story together. It is a good introduction to the genre, although the story is not extraordinary, but it does not have to be. Easy to understand, good is good and evil is evil. It fills a need to bring magic closer to us, and for that purpose, this is a perfect medium. I also praise the author's Hungarian prose, which is nothing short of artistic, even reading as an adult.
All-in-all a really solid children's fantasy book, and I am happy that I eventually got to reading it.
