The Enforcer’s Oath: Protect the club at all costs.
Jackal made an enemy out of Penni when he kidnapped her years ago. He let her go, never imagining she would take a piece of his soul with her. Now protecting Penni against a former brother will force him to place the club against her once again.
She may be the Hostage, but he’s the one held captive by the lust she refuses to admit binds them together.
She thinks The Last Riders and another man will be all the protection she needs to end the tug of war between them. However, he’s never lost a battle, especially against a tiny blonde with an attitude, begging him to teach her that her place is under him.
To end the battle, he’s going to have to reclaim the piece of soul she stole from him or claim a part of her soul as prisoner.
When a predator takes you hostage, you’re his forever.

After reading Stand Off and ending up a little disappointed, I had to read this book right away. I was sure Penni and Jackal's story would be a ton better than the last one was for me since I've been waiting for their story for what seems like forever. I even did a really good job at not getting myself getting overly excited since that usually leads to a letdown. Sadly though, the letdown was Penni.
I was surprised that she was such a problem for me, because I liked her in the other books that she was featured in. She was the main reason I was looking forward to this book because of her no nonsense type of attitude, and I couldn't wait to see her make Jackal work for her forgiveness. She definitely made his work for it, but a little too much.
I'll admit to being a sucker for a good book with a tough heroine, and a hero who has to work for her affections, but this book went a little too over the top. Penni was being a bitch to Jackal almost the whole story and it got really annoying at times. I felt bad for him that he had to put up with her, and even questioned why he kept trying. Jackal was the only thing that saved this book for me, and I was happy when he finally got Penni to calm down.
Overall, not my favorite book from Jamie Begley, but not something that will make me give up on her. I will forever be a huge fan, and I'm still looking forward to whatever she comes up with next. Maybe the Predators series just isn't the one for me, but I would still recommend it for MC lovers.
It's hard to explain exactly how I feel about this book, I've waited so long for Jackal and Penni's story but in the end it wasn't at all what I expected and I'm not sure where to start. I couldn't wait to read this I've been intrigued by Jackal, the ruthless enforcer for The Predators MC for ages but his character here wouldn't have been out of place in a Mills & Boon romance, now don't get me wrong I'm all about the romance and I love a guy who loves a woman and isn't afraid to show it but this is Jackal and also an MC book I wanted more. Penni, not sure where to start with Penni I've spent so long waiting for her story but after reading this I'm not sure I actually like her at all. It started quite well but for me anyway it went downhill fast and seemed silly and juvenile once they reached Treepoint. After such a long wait for this book I'm left feeling so let down.
Why is it that when you highly anticipate a book in a series that you enjoy and when you finally get your hot little hands on it ,the sense of euphoria slowly begins to ebb. This is the case with Hostage,Penni and Jackal's story.I enjoyed Ice and Grace's book and disliked Max's .I had such high hopes for this one based on their interactions from prior books. While I liked this book,I did not love it.Penni spent the majority of the book like a woman unhinged, and frankly,I did not see her progression to love for Jackal, she moaned over Train way too much, and quite frankly was childish. She spent the majority of the book hating Jackal, but melted at his kisses and touch.Jackal was too whimpy, not all like a badass alpha biker. Off course there was the obligatory scene of the club whore being felt up by the hero for the good of the club,in this case it was Raci. There was a lot of the Last Riders in this book which was good as it gave this reader a glimpse of their lives. There was even a glimpse of my most hated characeter,Bliss who is now a married Mom of a baby girl, still hate her character. The best part of this book was the epilogue which I enjoyed, but ended abruptly. Next up is Train and Killyma's journey to biker love,I will keep my expectations low so as not to be disappointed. This was an extremely hard one to rate as I feel that Penni's character could have been so much more, and why did she go batshitcrazy whenever someone called her"bitch" ,that was never really explained.
I've been longing to get my hands on Penni and Jackal's story, so I can't believe I'm going to say that overall I was disappointed. I don't want to give spoilers which will be difficult. The book starts off really well and I loved how the author came up with a good reason to have Jackal and Penni in close quarters again. The first third of the story was fast paced with some funny moments.
The minute it moved on to Treepoint and the Last Riders clubhouse it started to go downhill for me. I just found it hard to believe the turn the story took, in fact it was juvenile IMO. Then there was that business with Raci, they voted Bliss out for less, and I didn't like one bit Jackal's part in that. WTF is all I have to say about that.
Once it moved on to Queen City there was more drama. The end was rushed as well. Penni and Jackal were not how I remembered them in previous books. Penni was what I can only describe as a loose cannon with her behaviour, she was occasionally violent, though a couple of times with good reason especially where Jackal was concerned. Jackal was less alpha than expected. We do get both leads POV. I really found it difficult to connect with the two leads and parts of the story.
pennie wasn't likable, she was really annoying!! I could never move past jackal having his junk out and another women's hands on and his finger in another women after proclaiming to have such great feelings for pennie. Even if it was for the club (so lame and cliché! Rolls eyes) I was so dissapointed in this book after looking forward to it.There was no chemistry or like ability at all.
What a great disappointment this book. I waited for Jackal and Penni story for a long time. This book not just, didnt satisfy my expectation, but it wasn't a good book at all. It was just a confused mess. A lot of stuff put together without an order. The love story was almost in background, not important. The character of Jackal was not well explored.
TOO MUCH LAST RIDERS As much as I love Last Riders and it's one of my favourite series I think there was too much of them and few of Predators. At the end of the book I almost can say that I don't know anymore who the Predators are. I love the last riders. As much as I can read about them I read. But the author had to find another solution. Because if you Decide to write a new, independent series the book can't-major of it -be narrated in "last riders land". If you want to talk more about Last riders, write more books about them. Or make Jackal a Last Rider. Predators seemed a good series when I read and enjoyed the first two books. But this one seemed really without sense. I understand that Penni is Shade's sister. But we can't make every book a " SHADE's SHOW". I love him and I could keep on reading about him forever. But again- if you want to write other's people books- you can't make Shade and the Last Riders the centre of it all.
A MESS, TOO MUCH THINGS All these events. One after another. All the people and no one explained well. Jamie Begley. I expect a lot more from you. I know you can write a lot better than this.
I can't give more than two stars because this book is sold for "standalone" but it's not. Even I that I'm a real fan of Jamie Begley's world had to struggle to keep up with all the new events, people and old facts that had happened in all the other series. This seemed more of a soap opera, not a good romance motorclub book.
Jamie Begley. Welcome back after a lot of time you had to be away. But i can forgive you just once for a not good book. You can do a lot better.
Just read the prologue from 'Merry Blissmas' and I'm hooked. I have read snippets of Penni (being shade's sister) and Jackal from the Predators MC. I can't wait to read about them! :)
3 ⭐⭐⭐ - OK decent reads. ========================= UPDATE: Reread 13 February 2021 ---------------------------
Rereading the author's books in the order indicated by her while I wait for Gavin's third book.
I was outraged by the way the club handled Raci's betrayal and the danger that Ginny faced as a result of this. No punishment corresponding to the seriousness of the betrayal. Going without sex and selecting seeds is not punishment. Bliss, who I hate, was banned from the club for less. Raci deserved to be shot in the head to serve as an example. They are sissies controlled by the club's whores.

4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Liked it! ======================= UPDATE: JULY 2017 I liked more the first time I read it. The heroine annoyed me too much. I don't know if I was in a more receptive mood. Recomendo! ------------ I like the interaction between the couple. Heroin is very crazy and the hero just put up with it because he's very much in love with her. She starred in every hilarious scene that leaves us open-mouthed. Sometimes she is deeply irritating too. She's practically a Shade wearing skirts. She has the same personality traits that her brother. Shade makes very special participation in the plot. The members of other motorcycle clubs appear and mark presence to resolve the conflict. I can't wait for the next book! Recommend!
It would have been a four star read until the last 20 % of the book. Really he leaves her again after he has promised her to give her a part of his soul he could kiss my ass thats for sure. I think their story was told and than the author constructed more drama than anybody needs in the last chapters.

I was so looking forward to this book. This pairing has been teased and hinted at for so long. So, I was a bit disappointed that it just fell a little flat for me. Regardless, I gave it three stars since I really like the author and her other works.
There were just too many similarities to her other books.
Still like the author, just not this one as much.
Hopefully Train's book won't disappoint. * Fingers Crossed *
First of all, I'm very happy that Jaime Begley is feeling better and thankful that she wanted to give her fans something for their support when she wasn't feeling so well and that something happened to be the long awaited Jackal and Penni story. I was so excited when I saw that the book was out.
Unfortunately it was one of those things that you want so bad and when it finally arrives it just meh.
Penni might just be the first female main character in this series that did not annoy me and was slightly more relatable than the previous heroines. She was tough and had had a fairly normal childhood so there were no depressing backstories or hidden scars. Having said that though, I felt like it could have been enough to leave it like that but it felt like Jaime Begley was trying to find some emotional problem with her female character (in accordance with all her broken female characters) and gave her the same 'symptom' as Shade as being emotionally detached (she never cried as a child). But then in another scene she would turn around and say that Penni felt too many emotions. I'm not quite sure how this oxymoron works out psychologically. And also, it didn't fit into the description of her personality from the previous books. Also there are things that Jaime's characters do that just is not what people in real life do and it makes it hard to connect with them. In this book, Pennis habit is to stretch her hands up toward the universe to gather energy. Does anyone know of anybody that does this in real life? or even heard of anyone doing it? No? That's because its not a common thing.
Jackal was not the alpha male I expected him to be but that was not disappointing. He was tough but also human. It wouldn't make much sense to have someone like Penni with an overbearing alpha who dominated her. The funniest scene by far was when she tried to shoot Jackal and later hit him over the head with a plate after a specific incident.
In terms of the love story, I didn't feel it. First it took to long for anything to actually happen except for some attraction and then when they finally came together, there had been very little build up. Penni was obsessing about another man for one minute, next she's with Jackal. And then comes the required adultery scene where the male messes up and the lady runs away or gets guilted into staying because her small mind must understand that the "club comes first". You know the club that takes care of you when you couldn't ........insert whatever reason.......... And then when the male tries to make up for his mistake, you also have the required speech "I promise to never do it again, I will leave the club before I hurt you again." Here's an idea: just don't do it from the start. Also, the fact that Shade, her brother, knew about this happening and was ok with it? How does that make sense? Oh, excuse my small female mind, its because the club comes first. I'm sorry, I should have know better.
Perhaps I'm being harsh, I'm like that in my reviews. Honestly, it didn't captivate me but it's an ok read on a boring day. I'm just disappointed because I expected a lot more from the build up.
I've been skipping over this author's books after several let downs but wanted to come back because Penni and Jackal had such a great set up in the other Predators books. Unfortunately, as has been happening for me with Begley's books lately, the actual execution leaves something to be desired. At this rate, I feel pretty reluctant to spend money on the Killyama/Train story I have waited so long to read because I am almost positive that their story will end up being an enormous let down the way this one was, only magnified. I'm having flashbacks to The Promise.
All the lovely chemistry between Jackal and Penni up to this point? Pfft! Even when I thought there was going to be drama (now that Bliss is settled I guess Raci is being set up as the Last Rider chick we should all now hate) the opportunity was dropped. It was like Riot all over again.
I think whatever the indefinable thing was that made me like the early books by this author in spite of the terrible spelling, grammar, and continuity problems, it is gone for good. After this one I can't even promise I'll check out Train and Killyama's story if it ever comes out, and that's something that makes me sad more than anything.
Ok I usually love Jamie's books, and I was really looking forward to this one but......ugh Penni!!! There is nothing that I can't stand more in a book than when the heroine acts like a total and complete bitch throughout the book and plays hard to get for way too long. When I read romance books, I want actual romance and time spent where the main characters are actually being a couple. In this book the main characters only got together in the end. The whole other time Penni was busy being a world class bitch and Jackal was not nearly as badass as I thought he was going to be. The only reason why I gave it three stars was because the base story was good. That being said I can't wait to see what this author comes out with next. Oh wait I think it is going to be Killyama and Train's story. Ugh, I really hope Killyama isn't a bitch throughout the whole book and that they actually are together early in the book instead of fighting the whole time. I'm not holding my breath though because of what we have seen from these two in the past. Guess we will see.

Jackal is the enforcers to Predators MC, who finds himself obsessed with Penni. Years ago, he had kidnapped her- something she has never forgiven him for. While he tries to ask her out, she refuses to take him seriously, her mind lost in her job and taken by her childhood crush. Ultimately, after many disasters after which Jackal decides to give up the idea of having her, fate throws them together after he is forced to rescue her from irreparable situations. In the first half of the book, she shows no interest but slowly finds herself drawn towards him. The epilogue is sweet.
I liked the interactions between the Last Riders and Predators, including tidbits from many other characters and MCs. Jackal was smitten, Penny was messy. Her ADHD and past was well explore, and this was a very slow burn romance.
Not Begley's best. Definitely my least favorite Predators book. But I didn't hate it either. There were some funny moments. Penni is the opposite of her brother, Shade, in that she lets her hot temper reign free.
I also learned something about Penni I didn't know before and it added some interest to the storyline. But I mainly liked the scenes that featured The Last Riders.
I'm glad Begley is feeling better and writing again. Bring on Train and Killyama!
I skimmed like crazy so the only "cheating" scene I read was when Jackal was feeling up someone else and the h finds them. If there are previous cheating scenes, I probably skipped them. Anyway, I liked the Epilogue just like everyone else. (Yes, it was abrupt.) I didn't care much for the main characters unfortunately.
YAY! Penni & Jackal finally got their turn!! Their story was jam-packed with action, temper-tantrums, sexual tension & some of Jamie Begley’s most-talked-about characters!! *cough* The Last Riders *cough* It felt so good to get back to the Predators, even if most of Hostage seemed like it took place AWAY from Queen City!
I LOVED Jackal & Penni as a couple. They had great chemistry together (although I wanted MORE sex) & their banter was fun & entertaining. It’s amazing how much these characters changed throughout the book. They started out explosive; full of lust, hatred, arrogance, sass & stubbornness… And they ended in soul mate mode; full of warm, fuzzy duckies-&-swan-love, loads of forgiveness & more playful, easy-going attitudes. Dare I say they ended up like slightly “watered-down” versions of the Jackal & Penni we’d grown to know & love? Nothing wrong with them, just different, more mild… maybe some call it more mature? I don’t know for sure.
Penni was a HUGE surprise for me. I wasn’t expecting the bottled up rage, the secret crush or her later VERY forgiving nature. I admired Penni’s tenacity in wanting to get her man back (yes, there is a bit of separation between the two later on in the book) but I was super surprised with how it played out. Even after most of the beans were spilled, she still remained somewhat of an enigma to me.
I LOVED watching Jackal chase Penni & LOVED learning just how much she affected him (who doesn’t like to get inside a Hero’s head, am I right?) but man, that damn Predator Oath… I just can’t take that stupid thing anymore! Didn’t he learn ANYTHING from Ice’s downfall in Riot? Your woman does NOT need to take a back seat to your club to prove that “you’re the man” or whatever. On a happier note: the piercings rocked, the spankings were wicked & the later on celibacy thing really stoked my fire! :)
One thing happened in this book that I just can’t get over… and it had to do with The Last Riders. The original eight members ticked me off big time with an idiotic decision they made (one they didn’t even bother to vote on) concerning one of the other members. I’m not going to name names since that’d spoil a juicy plot point but with all the crap the original eight members spew about loyalty & trust, this decision does NOT sit well with me. At. All. Hopefully, it'll be addressed in the next Last Rider book!
Odds & Ends: *Is it Ginny or Genny because in ALL of the past books where she was mentioned, it was Ginny but in this book, it was Genny. Either way, I like where things are heading for her! Awesome change of scenery!! *Mag- You were freakin’ hilarious woman! Thank you for that!! *Grace’s “development”- Why did that need to happen? I’m hoping it’s a set-up for a future storyline because I just didn’t get it otherwise. *Winter & Viper- So, are we getting a novella for them before Train’s Clash comes out or what? *hint hint* *No Predator club wh*** or stripper drama? I was almost positive there’d be some Crush or Juliet smackdowns! Nuts. *Editing- Feel like it could’ve used another run through with the editor… Found lots of spelling/grammatical errors that made it a bit distracting to read at times.
Now, the countdown is on for the MOST ANTICIPATED book of the series… Train’s Clash! CANNOT WAIT to unravel the mysteries that are Train & Killyama!!
I was really excited for this book as I love Jamie Begley. I loved jackal . (especially his softer side). I did like penni especially her feisty side and I did laugh at times at her antics but at times she annoyed me.. I loved the fact at all the other last riders were brought back into this book and it was great to read about them and what was going on with them ... for me there was a couple of sad moments and as always I get lost in Jamie's books as I love this series...,the epilogue did end abruptly and did leave me wanting more ..again I couldn't put this down as with all her other books but I just needed a little bit more ....that saying I did enjoy this book ...but cant wait for train and killyamas story ......
I like Jackal, I really did and I was really looking forward to his book, but this bitch Penni was just too much. Why do authors think a 'tough' girl had to be a bitch? Sometimes a bitch is just a bitch. I couldn't for the life of me understand why Jackal actually like this jerk heroine?? And although I could believe she's a virgin (cause who would go near her with that attitude??) I couldn't believe she grew up around 2 motorcycle clubs and couldn't keep her mouth shut or behave like a grown up to save her life. Overall, this book had potential but Penni as a heroine was just too annoying to really get into it
I liked this one though wasn't blown away. It consisted of the protags arguing most of the book. There were a few odd plotlines that didn't seem to have a place in the story beyond being used as filler or fizzled out with no explanation. I was also put off by Begley using Penni and Shade's sibling relationship as a way to excuse some of Penni's odd behavior. To me she just had an anger issue.
With the exception of the Biker B!tches series, these spinoffs that JB is doing completely suck. Plus, she's back to killing off the animals. Let me fill you in on this dumpster fire.
Jackal (Predators enforcer) had kidnapped Penni (Shade's sister, utter bitch) back in TLR Book 4 when Lily's friends from her past life were trying to find her. Penni never forgave him for that, even though she's apparently had a crush on him since she was thirteen. Jackal has wanted Penni for a long time and won't give up on trying to win her over. She finds herself running out of gas in the middle of nowhere and ends up in a hostage situation with a rival biker club, the Road Kingz.
Instead of contacting TLR and Shade, Ice sends Jackal off to try and rescue her. When Jackal shows up, what does Penni do?? She attacks him!! Why? Because she's an immature b!tch. BTW, did I mention the word bitch apparently sends her into complete maniac mode?? It's a damn word. Get over it!!! She physically attacks anyone that calls her one, despite the fact that she acts like one.
Penni is completely terrible. She was added to my list of "FMCs that should die". I'll even gloss over the fact that Jackal was put in a situation where he had to act like he was into another woman in order to get information out of her. I don't even care because I hate Penni so much and don't think she deserves Jackal at all. That's how much I hate her.
Plus, let's not forget that Jamie Begley is back to her old antics and kills a swan and a bunch of baby swans. What is it with this woman?!?! It's highly likely that your target audience is women. Do we really look like we love dead animals????
Add to all of that the fact they don't even have sex until the last 60 pages of the freaking book.
If you can't tell, I hated this book. Even in Lucky's book when JB killed off the dog, Reeva. At least I liked the actual story, aside from that part. This one, I don't even like the story and the dead swans are just the cherry on top of this shit sundae! 🍨 🍨 🍨
Holy Hell! From the very start of the Predators MC series, there was one man who stayed on my mind and sparked my interest like no other. This man not only exudes danger but he's also trouble with a capital T. I knew from the moment Jackal stepped into this series, this man was going to bark up the wrong tree and then we'd have a battle of the dangerous alpha's on our hands! That's right, a Jackal and Shade face off!!!! I freaking loved Hostage, SO. DAMN. MUCH. There is so much more to this novel than danger and suspense. There's also heartbreak that comes with learning to love someone wholeheartedly.
Jackal and Penni’s story was one of my most anticipated in this whole damn series and holy hell was this novel a wild ride!
I found Penni's back story to be interesting. The fact that Penni suffers from a mild disconnect just as her brother does was really intriguing. This girl is wild and crazy and everything I expected her to be! She's a magnet for trouble!
I legit can’t get enough of Penni and her need to undermine everything Jackal says. I laughed so freaking hard at the endless back and forth. She definitely gave him a run for his money.
Overall, Hostage was such a great novel. I couldn't get enough of Jackal and Penni. And I can't wait to catch glimpses of them in the books to come!
