About the author

Emma was born in Minnesota and she lives in the Midwest, though she grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She attended Illinois State University where she majored in geology, and there she met her husband, Chris. They have three children, a temperamental cat named Poot, and are lucky enough to live on a beautiful lake. On warm days, she does enjoy a glass of wine on the dock now and then, and always loves to sit at her desk, winter or summer, and tap at her keyboard.

Para começar, gosto bastante da Emma Wildes, mas tenho vindo a achar que os últimos livros dela têm perdido qualidade. Porém, este trouxe-a de volta à sua antiga glória.

Começo por dizer que este livro tinha muitas cenas sexuais, já não lia um assim há algum tempo, e apesar de achar que sexo a mais (ou a menos) pode estragar o seguimento de uma história, nesta apenas apimentou o enredo.

Joshua, o nosso protagonista, e os seus amigos Liam e Michael, são três jovens nobres que têm segredos e passados feridos devido a problemas amorosos. John foi alvo de um escândalo amoroso e, ao tentar proteger a sua irmã Emily mesma sorte, acaba por se ver ligado a Charity, a melhor amiga desta e alguém que desde o início da sua adolescência tinha uma paixoneta por ele.

Só tenho uma coisa a apontar a este livro: a resolução dos problemas que foram aparecendo foi demasiado rápida. Não vou dizer o que se interpôs na felicidade dos protagonistas mas digo que poderia ter existido uma história, até uma aventura muito mais intrigante do que o resultado final apresentado, que me pareceu que foi resolvido num estalar de dedos e, sinceramente de forma algo exagerada.

Mas isso acaba por passar ao lado, com um livro tão sensual e fácil de ler como este foi. Sem dúvida, Emma Wildes recuperou a sua qualidade a meu ver, com este romance que me prendeu da primeira à última página.

Adorei este livro porque está muito giro mas principalmente porque podemos assistir às consequências dos boatos que se espalham, mesmo que as nossas acções sejam para fazer o bem.

A good read. Apparently, this book was first published around 2014. A truly Regency story, i.e. dancing, fashion, falling in love, intrigue, steamy sex. Think I liked the sexy bits most 😁
I enjoyed reading it. 4☆

Esta história é muita coisa mas não é original. Tem um inicio promissor, com a corrida de Charity para avisar Joshua da fuga da irmã, situação que os coloca no meio de um escândalo que acaba em casamento. A partir dai é o típico damos-nos muito bem na cama, mas demoramos mais tempo a acertar fora dela e com algum destaque para o passado do Joshua e do que o levou a fugir de Inglaterra. Uma história fofa, leve e divertida sem nada muito complexo, que não é aborrecida, mas também não se destaca, que não é demasiado plana, mas também não é marcante.

A very good little romantic mystery.

There wasn't much action outside the bedroom. Which action I skipped. The hero "wicked" was difficult to like until almost the end. The heroine was wonderful.

It left me somewhat cold

Nothing particularly off in the writing or the plotting but the romance left me cold. The hero is full of man pain and decides being uncommunicative and distant was the way to play martyr. Years earlier he got dumped by his fiancé because she had the chance at a title. This he believes entitles have him to treat his wife as a sex object while ignoring her the rest of the time. The relationship is only marginally developed, its driving motivation being sexual attraction because they never do talk very much. And if the primary relationship is problematic, the secondary one is downright toxic. The fiancé that dumped the hero all those years earlier is apparently passive aggressive enough to toss him over but still want him in live with her, while her husband obsesses over her, she obsesses over the hero and it's just disturbing enough that the hero and heroines distant uncommunicative marriage where the hero deliberately bars his wife from his daytime life looks healthier by comparison.

So in sum, one dissatisfying relationship and a secondary one that is all kinds of messed up. Ultimately the whole the night left me cold.

She’s innocent and Lord Joshua certainly didn’t ask for the firestorm, but they are both caught up in the maelstrom of misunderstanding and disgrace. As events unfold she realizes that the black secret he keeps from the world is both complex and a threat to not just any possible happiness, but maybe even their very lives
