Kid's books are some of the best. This book is an introduction to the materials and history of painting. The fact that it has those ever fascinating opening doors on pages, pieces of material, etc. only enhance the enjoyment of reading a variety of fascinating facts. Highly recommended if you don't want to wade through an adult art history book.
This novel tells how to paint and the techniques famous artists use to paint.
The importance of this book is very high. Many young artists may like to use this as a quick reference for art ideas. This is a book that should always stay in each classroom because it can help students greatly with fine arts. it will keep them interested because of the many pictures on each page with the many different facts included with them. The facts about artists also show students the importance behind art. Many people in history went through a lot just so they could see their love in the arts. Overall this book is a great book for students to reference.
Paint and Painting is an in depth and interactive account of the art of painting, how paint is made, different types of canvases, as well as its origins and recent history. From all over the world and throughout time, painting has evolved in many ways, and the author takes you on a journey of this art form, from cave paintings to Andy Warhol's soup cans.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the different histories of paint, from the types of paint to the types of paper and how different civilizations created them. The book even has some different materials to feel for reference, panels that show before and afters of restored artwork, and detailed timelines of when famous artists lived and created their well known works. I thought this was an excellent resource for anyone interested in the arts and painting in general. I liked the "toy" book feel this had even though its purpose is to solely educate.
The book is filled with quotes from artists such as Monet's, "...paint as you see it." and other facts such as "The cave [paintings] of Lascaux in France... was discovered in 1940 by some children and their dog."
