Well d**n, I didn't expect any of the unexpected events that happened between the characters. This was an exciting unsuspecting surprise! This takes reality TV to a whole new level of reality lol! I didn't understand most of what the characters were getting out of the deal,but their individual tryst in the story were very innovative.

New York is in itself a large melting pot, but take that concept a step further by placing three persons and their opposites in a loft, and things will definitely get interesting.

In "Shots Fired in the Melting Pot", you have the criminal and the policeman, the celebrity and the paparazzi, and the conservative and liberal, all together in one place. You can probably imagine just by the premise that this will be thrilling, suspenseful and emotional if it is played well. And I must say that it is well played indeed. As the story unfolds, we learn more about the characters, and particularly several dark secrets that start to surface, building the tension towards the end.

There are many memorable moments, but when you start reading Chapter II, you find a quote stating "How insane is the concept of sanity for those who must peer over the edge of a mountain to gain wisdom?", which I think not only conveys a perfect summary, but also pushed me to look beyond just the characters and their interactions, and towards the reflections that this brings to our everyday life.

Shots Fired is perhaps an inflated version of cultural and personal clashes of different personalities with different lifestyles and worldviews, but in the end there is much truth behind it all.

It takes some time to get into the flow of this novel and to get to know the different characters.
Although the story is set in 2055 it seems as if nothing has changed at all, the same TV, the same cars, phones,...the same prejudices. (When I look back 30 years a lot has changed!)
The author discribes the characters throuout the whole novel in a strange way: the twenty-six-year old comedian or the Muslim photographer, as if he wants to avoid "he" or "she" or call them by their names.
The premise is interesting and promisses conflict. Six very different persons with personal secrets in a TV show living together in a loft. The difference to "Big Brother" is that they can leave the loft and continue their normal jobs.
Of course the situation escalades.
There is some suspense, some interesting friendships, but the surprising end didn't convince me.

This was quite a sublime novel introducing a whole variety of characters that couldn't be more different and some dark pasts. Some parts will make you smile, some might make you cry. Either way, these shots fired will definitely leave their marks on you. I decided to give this novel very good 3, 5 stars for a good thriller that was to me personally, however, a little confusing thanks to the whole bunch of characters. Putting that personal part aside, it is ingeniously written and offers a lot of thrill. It is suspenseful and we even get some romance in it. I wasn't able to close my eyes later, because the plot kept me thinking for a while. A great and unique idea!

If you’re looking for a book that exposes the likeness of our vagarious and scheming natures, you need not go further. Shots Fired in the Melting Pot exploits the banal concept of reality t.v. and uses it as a backdrop for a satisfying blend of sundry personalities in a theme that is often romantic, thrilling and at the same time mysterious.

This book accomplishes something that reality t.v. never could, it turns the idea of a group of perfect strangers living together into something interesting. Great characters, great story, very entertaining. Loved it, 5-stars.

While I am not much into reality TV this book had an interesting start of 6 people who lived in a New York apartment with a film crew. What started out as a story about people who were placed together because of their adversarial relationships they eventually became a cohesive group. Then the book took a weird turn at the end and the last three chapters just got too far out. Up until that point I did enjoy the book and the interaction of the characters.

Add people who are completely opposite into a apartment and stir. This book was interesting and had some good moments. But I was just not that much into it. This fast paced, enthralling novel had me interested beginning to end. Includes a biting social commentary about what our not-too-distant future may look like. The characters are dramatic but believable. The writing is witty, polished, and still somehow down-to-earth. Definitely worth the read!

Just didn't like it!

I had to force myself to keep reading and hoping it would get better. Complete waste of time! Disjointed, a twist that made absolutely no sense also leaving the entire book a complete mess! Read the phone book instead!

Nope, nope, nope. Made it to page 26 and just couldn't keep going. It has an incredibly confusing flow. The labeling of characters is clumsy and crude. I will not be finishing this.
