In the Line of Duty #6
His Reason to Stay
When the Nelson brothers took me under their wing in high school, I fell in love with both of them.
But it was the older brother who asked for my hand.
Now widowed, I’m trying to pick up the pieces of my life.
But my world turns upside down when my Kyle Nelson returns home.
The man I secretly wished I’d married.
He steps up to be the man I need, the uncle his niece never met.
As time runs short before he ships out again, the desire we’ve suppressed breaks free.
Tempting me to reveal a secret that could give him a reason to stay—or burn our love to ash.
Each book in the Line of Duty Series can be read as a Standalone.

5 All of you Stars
"Sweetie, one look at you and I could tell you had sex last night." "Shh." She glanced around to make sure of the patrons entering or exiting the store had heard Sara. She lowered her voice. "What gave it away?" Sara pursed her lips and circled her finger in front of Rachel's face. "The glazed look in your eyes, the way your skin is glowing. Those are all tells, but the biggest giveaway is in the way you're walking." "What?" she said mortified as Sara laughed. "I was not walking funny," she shot back. "You kind of were." She licked her lips. "He was big, huh?"-Sara and Rachel
OMG Wow this book! So this is the second book I have ever read by Cathryn Fox and I just freakin loved it. So a few months ago I came across a book on Netgalley called His Best Friend's Girl by Cathryn Fox. I had never heard of her but the book sounded good so I requested and got it. When I read it I loved it. Matt was so yummy and I really connected to Cathryn Fox's writing style. So when His Reason to Stay hit Netgalley I didn't even think twice about requesting it. His Reason To Stay was better then His best Friend's Girl and that is saying something with how much I loved Matt's story! Kyle and Rachel story blew me away. It was emotional and sweet. I sat there reading it with a silly grin on my face almost the whole time.
"Rach... Fuck.... I..." He brushed his thumb over her cheek, his touch so caring and gentle it took her breath away. "You what?" she asked. "I...I need...I fucking need, okay." "Then take." "Take what you need, Kyle." Her hand went to his chest, the soothing balm in her palm cool on his heated skin. His cock surged to life. "Take what you need and give me only what you can give."-Kyle and Rachel
Kyle was sexy as hell which I am beginning to think is a trait all the men in Cathryn Fox's books have. He was strong, supportive, and outspoken. Kyle was a giver, always putting others needs and happiness before his own. Kyle down played all his strong suits so his older brother James could shine. Kyle and James were both in love with Rachel and Kyle always putting his brothers needs before his own stepped back. Kyle felt a ton of guilt over his feelings for Rachel especially after his brother died. Kyle was charming and a bit kinky in the bedroom. The way he was with little Ava (Rachel's daughter) melted my heart. Nothing is sexier, NOTHING..... than a man who loves and cares for a child. Good fathers(by blood or love) = Sexy beast! Just Sayin' Add in the fact that Kyle did dishes and he was a dream come true. Rachel was very down to earth. She was sweet and playful and had that whole cute girl next door thing going on. Both Kyle and Rachel felt very realistic. They acted and did things that I as a reader could relate to.
"I'm going to fuck you so hard tonight, Rach." "Oh God," she cried out. She swiped her tongue over her bottom lip and he struggled to get himself together. "But first I'm going to run my tongue all over you. Then, just when you think you can't take it anymore, I'm going to slip between your legs and take your pussy into my mouth."-Kyle and Rachel
Kyle and Rachel's chemistry was off the charts. They also had a easiness that came from being close for years. Their relationship was cute and when you add in a small adorable little girl with big blue eyes you have my happy zone! I was all about the cute family moments. I just really enjoyed this read. I said it too with Matt's book, and I will say it again I have to go back and read all the other books in this series! This small taste isn't enough I need more of the In the Line of Duty series.
"You. What I want is you. All of you."-Rachel

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED!!!!!
This was the first story I read in this series and I am blown away!! Cathryn has a way with words that have you completely enveloped in the story.
Rachel has loved two men, but only one was her forever. Now that he’s back in her life, she has no idea how to handle the fact that every smile, touch, or word from him has her heart fluttering. He’s always been the one, but he left. He went away to the army after she married his brother. Surely he can’t love her the same way she loved him? Or he wouldn’t have left.
Kyle is the returning soldier. He comes home two weeks before Easter and his first stop is to see Rachel. After years of being apart, one look at her and he’s as deeply in love as he was all those years ago. But, he can’t possibly be the man she wants. She loved his brother, married him. He could never step in to fill his brother’s shoes. Could he?
When you touch me Rach. When you put your hands on my body, it makes me crazy.
Rachel is keeping a secret, one that can make Kyle leave for good. One that he could possibly never forgive. Is it worth it to tell him the truth? Will he understand?
I LOVEDDDD THIS BOOK!!! Kyle will definitely be melting your panties and stealing your heart.

.

This is the best book in this series in my opinion!
Kyle and Rachel’s chemistry is off the charts. Kyle is such a good man, always putting his brother’s needs in front of his own. I’m glad in the end he was finally able to put himself first so he could get his happy ending with Rachel.

HOT and STEAMY and full of LOVE
This is my first Cathryn Fox novel and she blew me away! I absolutely loved this story of Rachel and Kyle. Rachel grew up with Kyle and his brother James. She considered them her best friends. Rachel and Kyle were inseparable, but it was James who won her heart. Kyle and James’ mother was what I like to call the MOTHERINLAW ZILLA, trying to control the wedding preparations. Rachel had enough and broke her engagement off. She runs to Kyle and they experience an explosive night together. She does marry James and Kyle disappears to the military. 4 years later, James has unexpectedly passed away and Rachel and her precocious daughter Ava are lonely. Kyle returns on a short leave and gets immediately entrenched into their lives. Little Ava is so adorable and literally wraps Kyle around her little finger. Rachel and Kyle fight their feelings for each other, but eventually give into their passions. This story had everything I look for in a contemporary romance, passion, intrigue, love, family, puppies, an eye opening secret revealed and a beautiful HEA. Don’t hesitate to read this delightful and steamy book by a new favorite author of mine, Cathryn Fox.

Slick's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews
I've enjoyed this series by Cathryn Fox quite a bit and while His Reason To Stay was a good story it made me feel like a horrible person. Why? Because I'm not sad that the heroine's husband died...I know...see horrible person alert. He may have been a nice guy, he may have had good intentions but all I could see was that he wanted the shiny object (the heroine) and he made sure he shoved his brother aside and took her and he made sure his brother had a front row seat for it; the very brother who did everything to not outshine his older brother.
ACCCKKK!! This book made my heart hurt for the heroine and the now hero; for the time they lost, for the secret she held, the fears they both have and the life they put on hold for far too long.
Rachel Andrews spent her teen years attached to two men, brothers James and Kyle Nelson. As a young girl she relished their friendship, she blossomed and she fell in love and while both men wanted her Kyle seeing that his older brother was serious and ready to give her the life she deserved he stepped aside, but the bond between them was never broken just pushed aside through a marriage, the birth of a child and a devastating death. On leave from the Army, Kyle is ready to see Rachel again and to get to know his niece but the attraction and feelings between them are move prevalent that ever and soon has them both wishing for more.
This was a difficult story in that there were so many feelings and issues at play between Rachel and Kyle. They had some history and there was a good deal of guilt involved from that history but neither one could deny the intensity of their attraction or the way they made each other feel. Add in a precious 4 year old who wants a puppy, a brother and oh yes, a Daddy and you've got one crazy mixed up story.
I'll be honest when I say that I'm not sure I liked James very much especially when he let his mother run all over him. Kyle seemed to always have Rachel's back yet he felt guilty for the fact that he coveted his brother's girl even leaving town so he wouldn't be in the way of them starting their life together. Despite everything Kyle was a stand-up guy and in my heart he always had the best of intentions towards Rachel so them figuring it all out made me a pretty happy reader.
Complex, engaging, and truly heart-warming, His Reason To Stay is an excellent addition to this charming series.

4.5 Stars ~ Great HEA
So after all the girls from Alpha Book Club read and raved about this book, I had to see what was up. I don't often read M/F books anymore but I really liked this book. Kyle was always in love with Rachel. Rachel loved both Kyle and His brother James. When James asked Rachel to marry him, Kyle did the honorable thing and left to the army allowing his brother and Rachel to live their lives. One night of passion though changes everything and when James suddenly dies from a genetic heart defect, Rachel is left a widow and Ava their daughter is fatherless. When Tyler comes home on leave old feelings are rekindled and passion runs high. How long can Rachel and Tyler remain in-laws when what they really want is to be lovers! Will Ava get her wish for a daddy? Great book ~ 4.5 stars for the HEA !!
Oh, and there is puppies!!!

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
Kyle, our hero, has been in love with Rachel since the day he met her. But his brother James makes a move first and he loses the girl. Fast forward a few years and Rachel is a widow with a young daughter, Ava. Kyle returns from war and gets a second chance at love but he feels he is betraying his brother. Frankly, the bits we see of James portay him as a selfish Mama's boy so I had not qualms about Kyle being with Rachel.
His Reason to Stay is a very steamy erotic romance. There was more time spent on bedroom activities that I was anticipating but I didn't mind a bit. The storyline is straight forward and enjoyable making this easy reading.
His Reason to Stay can be read as a standalone even though it is book 6in the series. I have not read the previous books yet but I definitely will be. This was very good.

The sixth in the series - but can be read as a standalone - and when you do, do not be surprised if you go back and read the rest, as Ms Fox has definitely got a way with words!
This is a lovely story with plenty of heat in the bedroom too. Repressed feelings of love caused Kyle to leave, but now he has a second chance, if only he can get over the past, and believe in a future. Add in a cute little girl, daughter to the woman who never stopped loving him either, and the story is set. I liked the set up, it is easy to just keep turning the pages, and Ms Fox gives us the HEA we believe they deserve.

Rachel grew up on the wrong side of the tracks so to speak. When her father passed away her mother moved them to a location that would allow them to find a fresh start. This is when Rachel met the two loves of her life, brothers James and Kyle. James was the golden son with his rich parents and would do anything to stay in the family business and keep his mother happy. Kyle was not going to bend to the will of his overbearing parents. He was a free spirit, but his soul hurt when James put the ring on Rachel’s finger and pronounced Kyle’s dreams dead. After that Kyle leaves for the military to get away from a life that could have been his.
One afternoon, Kyle is back, watching Rachel and her daughter Ava in a park. At one glance their lives are about to take a turn that no one could predict. The day of reckoning is about to descend on these two. Truth will have to be uncovered if they are ever going to stand a chance and it won’t be easy to navigate since little Ava falls instantly in love with her Uncle Kyle. With shared high school friends getting married and starting careers and families, Rachel and Kyle seem to be stuck in the past with the distorted beliefs and emotions that were left unresolved.
I am new to this authors work, but I was so invested and engaged with His Reason to Stay, I am making it a mission to read more of her work. I was able to follow this story and side characters just fine for not having any experience with the series. The words were written so beautifully, the plot came to life, allowing the reader to feel the confusion, sadness and love on every page of the book. I would highly recommend His Reason to Stay and I am anxious to get more from this series as soon as possible.

Sempre. – Tu. Quello che voglio sei tu. Tutto.”

-I loved this whole series, and I loved how all the books were somehow linked. I loved the struggles everyone went through but I especially loved the struggle in this one. Rachel and Kyle both loved each other, but still felt it was wrong to move forward even though they'd been playing house with Rachel's daughter Ava, the entire time Kyle was home on leave. You see, Kyle, Rachel and Rachel's late husband, James, all grew up together but James was the first Nelson brother to do something about his feelings for Rachel. So Kyle stood back, hid his true feelings for Rachel to put his brother's happiness first, as he did for most of his life. Now with James having been gone for two years, Rachel is torn between her emotions when Kyle comes home, and not just because she loves him but because of the secret she's been hiding from everyone for the last five years. The one about the one mistake she made before he marriage to James, that gave her the best thing in her life. She's scared of what will happen when Kyle learns the truth of who Ava's real father is. She's scared he'll runaway from her, and from the one person who loves him just as much as she does, Ava.

This was good.
Though I think the end was rushed.
I don't understand why the brother was so perfect, and why Kyle was so determined to have James be perfect. There was literally no given reason for Kyle sacrificing everything for the elder brother.
Also... James was a bit of an ass. He never stood up for his girlfriend. He only asked Rachel to marrying him because he wanted to one up Kyle as he knew Kyle loved her. He was an ass.
Rachel I understood and empathized with. I completely understood her reason for wanting to make it without support from the very unsupportive inlaws.

Cute sweet second chance love story!
I wasn't sure I was going to be able to love this story because baby secrets are hard for me to love but this one was written beautifully and both Rachel and Kyle were beautifully broken people who'd always loved one another. Ava was a pretty amazing kid that sealed all the love in this HEA.

This is a fun, entertaining read. Kyle and Rachel are fun, intriguing, complex, interesting, wounded, entertaining, relatable characters. I enjoyed these characters and their romance. The secondary characters – especially Ava – added to the fabric of the story and my enjoyment. I love that we got to see the characters from other books in the series.

His Reason To Stay is book 5 in Cathryn Fox’s In the Line of Duty series. I’m kicking myself for not having discovered Cathryn Fox until now! Each book in this series can be read as a standalone so don’t worry about feeling left in the dark about characters or plot points. Ms. Fox’s writing style grabbed hold of me immediately and I could not put this book down. The characters are beautifully developed, the pace is perfect, and the story flows smoothly. There are just enough twists and turns to make you wonder what’s going to happen without things getting too convoluted and frustrating. I’m certain most readers will figure out the main twisty turny early on, however, the big question for me was How is she going to handle this?
When Rachel Andrews moves to Austin sophomore year in high school, she becomes fast friends with brothers James and Kyle Nelson. Friendship grows and deeper feelings develop. Although the boys are only 18 months apart, Kyle thinks the world of his “older” brother, taking a back seat in virtually everything to allow James to shine. When James changes the game and begins dating Rachel senior year, Kyle swallows his hurt and steps aside. Rachel is not only shocked when James proposes, she’s a bit heartbroken that Kyle enlists in the Army immediately after graduation. She knows some may think it’s wrong, but she loves both brothers equally. Kyle stays away from Austin not merely because of his career but because it’s too painful to see his brother with the girl he loves.
His Reason To Stay really gets going two years after James’ sudden death. On leave for a few weeks, Kyle returns to Austin. The last time he saw Rachel and his niece Ava was at James’ funeral. It may not be the wisest thing to do considering he’s never stopped loving Rachel, but he owes it to James to make sure the girls are doing well.
I absolutely love how Ms. Fox handled Rachel and Kyle’s story. She shows that it is indeed possible to be in love with two people at the same time. Rachel loved James with all her heart, and had he not died she would have been happy to live out her days with him. However, her sadness that Kyle felt the need to disappear from their lives never diminished. Nor did her love for him. As soon as Rachel sees Kyle the old feelings are unleashed, stronger than ever.
I fell hard for Rachel and Kyle. They are both selfless people who love with complete heart and soul. Rachel is fun, witty, down-to-earth, and has a very believable relationship with Ava. Rachel is overwhelmed by the emotion Kyle has stirred up and wants him in her life again. She’s been a single mom for two years. Although she loved James deeply, she’s missed Kyle more than she realized. The only problem is how to convince Kyle it’s not a betrayal for them to be together. When Ava’s day care falls through for the week, Kyle volunteers to babysit. Annnnd, here we go!
Kyle is one hot hunk of man. He may be working hard to convince himself it’s wrong to make a move on Rachel, but he’s not fooling anyone. He’s held back his true feelings for so long he’s about to explode. So when he volunteers to take care of Ava for the week, he’s just doing a favor for Rachel, right? He quickly settles into a routine of fixing things around the house, and getting to know his niece. Oh my gosh, Kyle is adorable with Ava! Who, by the way, steals the show quite a few times. She’s a typical four year old in most ways, but she’s also a total crack up.The more Rachel sees the two of them together, the deeper she falls for Kyle. The sexual tension between these two crackles, sparks, and sets the pages on fire. Ms. Fox is a master at crafting some of the hottest scenes I’ve ever read. And, I’ve been around the block when it comes to sex scenes.
His Reason To Stay is a beautiful love story. The writing is top notch, the characters believable, and the chemistry between Rachel and Kyle is phenomenal. I might have read those particular scenes more than once. If you don’t melt at the interactions between Ava and Kyle someone needs to check your vitals. I loved everything about this story, and I’ll be checking out the other books in this series.

Kyle è duro, amorevole, leale, giusto, protettivo e decisamente sexy.

How do you tell your heart who to love and to what degree? Well that is the problem facing Rachel Andrews (Nelson) you see she was a girl from the wrong side of the track. She was lonely young and shy girl. Her friend Sara introduced her to the Nelson brothers James the elder brother and Kyle.
They were instant friends from day one they did everything together. By James and Rachel’s senior year Rachel was starting to feel mixed emotions for the brothers. She started hanging out more with Kyle though. They went to the drive-in, watched chick-flicks, and went out to the bluffs. He just used to be so in tuned with her.
But toward the end of school James started taking her out on dates. Just kind of assumed it was the natural progression. Then he was off to Harvard. They didn’t break up but they did see much of each other. Kyle seemed happy for them but it was truly killing him inside. Kyle only ever wanted the best for James even at his own expense no matter what he had to give up.
When Kyle’s senior year starts he doesn’t tell anyone but he enlist before the school year ends by joining the Army. Not saying goodbye to Rachel. She was heartbroken. After 4 months at Harvard and about the same time in the Army both come home to Rachel. One the same day. James decides to ask for her hand in marriage. When asked she looks to Kyle as if waiting for an objection or something anything. At first he is sitting ramrod straight arms crossed. Then he nods yes, slightly, sits back relaxed making it her cue that he didn’t want her the way she wanted him. So Rachel accepted James proposal.
Those wedding plans and details took their toll on Rachel because the guy’s mother disliked her. Mainly for coming from the wrong side of the street. She hi-jacks the wedding. The final straw was the honeymoon that James said he wanted and was excited about going on which was for Hawaii. His mother says otherwise and he is jumping ship. Plus he wasn’t even defending her to his mother so she throws the ring at him and calls off the wedding. Runs to Kyle who’s in town for the wedding. They end up at the bluffs. One thing leads to another.
Kyle can’t take the guilt so he takes her right back to James and gets them squared away and back together. Then he talks to his mother to get her squared away and out of their business too. Then its two years before she sees him again. Why? She sees him at James’s funeral.
I really enjoyed this book the dynamics of Kyle and Ava are just the sweetest. Kyle did need a love tap upside the head his belly aching was driving me crazy at some points. Loved Ren too, Kyle’s dad, very wise man. I give this 5 stars. Provided by netgalley.com. Follow us at:

Rachel Andrews is struggling to find some semblance of a normal life after losing her husband James unexpectedly two years ago. Everyday she wakes up and tries to put on a brave face, and does all she can to make sure her daughter is getting everything she needs, even if she isn't. When the grief of losing her husband passed, loneliness settled in, and she just can't bring herself to move on and find someone new. She loved her husband dearly, but at the same time another part of her heart has always belonged to his brother, Kyle. She met both of them at the same time, and fell for both of them for very different reasons, and has carried a special place in her heart for both of them all this time. And she has always wondered if she picked the right brother four years ago, when James proposed and staked his claim, Kyle did the brotherly thing and walked away, leaving her to think James was the right choice. But after two years of mediocre marriage to the man, and a lot of time to sort out her feelings she has came to the realization that she said yes to the wrong brother... now she just has to find the courage to tell him and hope he doesn't' walk away from her again.
Kyle Nelson has returned home to make amends, he needs to repair his relationship with his parents, establish a relationship with his niece, and face the woman he walked away from four years ago. Leaving her behind, and watching his brother have the life with her that he hoped would someday be his, completely devastated him. He has loved Rachel since he first met her, and has always wondered if he made the right choice walking away from her, and letting his brother be the one walk her down the aisle. He knows coming home to face her again is going to be hard, but he knows it's time to step up be the man she needs him to be and be the uncle his niece so desperately needs... now he just has to hope she is willing to give him another chance.
I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of this story and my opportunity to make a return visit to this series for some time now, and I have to say it was DEFINITELY worth the wait!! Ms. Fox has once again outdone herself, this beautiful story captured my heart, invaded my thoughts, and left me emotionally spent... which in my book makes for one VERY satisfying read!!
This is by far one of my favorite series to read, and I highly encourage you to give it a try, not only you will be treated to some exceptional reading but always have the opportunity to meet some very well crafted characters that are sure to leave an indelible impression on your heart!
