This was both theology and organizational theory ultra lite, so much so that it had the substance of a soap bubble.

I really enjoyed the content of this book! I thought it was super informative and amazing. A lot of it spoke to me, but I didn’t always love the formatting where there would be stories inserted into the book in the middle of sentences and trains of though. Other than that, I loved it!

This was an excellent resource for anyone looking to develop leadership skills. I can't imagine what the world would look like if everyone followed the S3 model of leadership--servant, steward, and shepherd. This
model promotes the personal growth of everyone under the leader while inspiring them to contribute toward the vision themselves. It seems like more work to pay attention to every "follower's" particular needs from leadership, but it winds up being more productive in the long run.

Not only does the book talk about what an organization under such leadership looks like, but practical advice on how to become that sort of leader yourself. Everything is written very down-to-earth in plain, compassionate language.

Now that I've read through it, I think I'm going to go back and see where I can apply it to my life.

My parish team is reading and discussing a chapter before each of our monthly meetings. My overall impression is that it's not particularly thought provoking - it does lead to decent discussion, but not because we are challenged by the book's content. Also, I haven't researched it, but there must be other versions of the book entitled "The Baptist Vision for Leading Like Jesus," "The Lutheran Vision for Leading Like Jesus," "The Episcopalian Vision for Leading Like Jesus," and so on. I'm guessing they just swap out the quotes in the boxes to reference leaders of different faith communities. (If that's not true, I'll officially take credit here for the idea.) Anyway, I'm torn between thinking it's an efficient marketing move, very patronizing, or a lovely statement on ecumenism. Either way, I'm glad I was given the book and didn't have to purchase it myself.
