This was one of the books given to me as a small child and I kept until I went to college. (Yes -- I was stupid.)I read this so many times it fell apart. This was the most boss dino kids' book in i t's time and even into the early 1970s. However, the information in it is now hopelessly outdated. Seeing the cover here on Goodreads kindles lots of teary-eyed nostalgia but as a source of dino info, it leaves a lot to be desired.

The prose in this book carries a distinct, humorous energy that gives the poetry like style a unique life of its own. There is a palpable confidence in the author's voice bordering on cocky that adds a sharp edge to the sentence structure. When read aloud, that rhythmic bite really stands out, making the poems feel spirited. While I'm not entirely sure about the techinical accuracy of some elements, the sheer personality of the writing makes it an incredibly fun and compelling read. 4/5.
