Golden Angel is a USA Today best-selling author of heart and bottom warming romance.
She is happily married, old enough to know better but still too young to care, and a big fan of happily-ever-afters, strong heroes and heroines, and sizzling chemistry.
When not in front of her computer writing, she can be found sewing her next project, hanging out with friends, or wandering the grounds of the Maryland Renaissance Festival.
The Stronghold Doms is a wonderful series about a group of friends who all attend (or end up attending) a BDSM club. In Breaking the Chain we get to know the story of Leigh, best friend to the heroine of Book 1, and Jared, an original member of the group. This pair connect through their mutual unhappy love lives. Jared having been in a fairly toxic relationship whilst Leigh's ex had an early mid-life crisis. Having invested years of their lives in relationships that have recently failed, both are understandably cautious about jumping into a new one with both feet.
I found both main characters to be very believable, their reactions, their fears, their responses and decisions all felt very natural and realistic. It was very easy to buy into their growing connection and scorching hot chemistry. There is no unnecessary angst or drama in the story in terms of the main characters and their relationship. There's plenty of upset caused by Marissa, a total drama queen who only wants what she can no longer have. However Jared and Leigh don't let this impact on their relationship and I liked that the author demonstrated how a mature couple navigate the turbulence that life often throws into our pathways.
I maybe felt the pace was a little slow at times, though none of the story felt like idle filler used to add pages rather than content. Overall the writing is very strong, Golden Angel portrays very realistic kink relationships, even if the fact that they are all great friends, all into BDSM and have a club on their doorstep is a little stretch on reality. Leigh and Jarad's was almost more of a DD relationship than a truly kinky one, the play never extending much past spankings and making it ideal if you are new or less enthused by the genre but want to sample this author's work.
One of the real great strengths of the Stronghold Doms series is just how stand alone each story is. Sometimes there is a slight overlap in the timeline of books, and if you start with the latest there will definitely be a few minor spoilers for earlier books. This is a great series of reads that I am more than happy to recommend.
Leigh and Jared are the ones that get their story in Breaking the Chain and what a story it is! They both deserve their happy after só much! After being taken for granted for years and years by their partners, they both finally draw the line and i am so glad they did. Understanding where they come from has them building a friendship and gradually it grows into something more. If only Jared’s ex,Marissa didn’t return and make their life miserable, things could be just wonderful.....I loved the chemistry between Leigh and Jared,i loved them, period.
So, both Jared and Leigh have horrible exes, and somehow still can't get over them. Leigh's long-term boyfriend repeatedly breaks up with her to date other women, and she still takes him back, while Jared's girlfriend doesn't care about his interests, leaves him for months for work, and when he tries to leave her, threatens to kill herself. Seriously, Marissa has deep psychological issues. I like Jared and Leigh, though their reluctance to move past their previous relationships gets old fast. There's an element of domestic discipline to this (Leigh asks him to help her stay on track with her diet and exercise), which really isn't my thing, though it isn't handled badly. This isn't a bad book, but it's definitely not the author's best.
Book 4 in the Stronghold Dom Series, Breaking the Chain, focuses on Angel's best friend, Leigh, and Dom Jared’s story. Leigh finally has the strength to leave her un-appreciating partner, Michael, and seeks comfort with Angel and Dom Adam, who are now living together as a couple.
Jared is constantly left hanging by his on-again, off-again, submissive/girlfriend, Marissa (aka Truck stop, or Thunderc**t as Domme Olivia refers to her as…lol – I adore Olivia). Once Jared makes the decision to finally break it off with Marissa (much prefer what Olivia calls her), Leigh and Jared finally get to meet and commiserate between each other about their exes – because although all of their circle of friends from Stronghold TRY to advise or help, they just don’t have the same understanding as they both do regarding their respective ‘baggage’ (exes).
Their initial friendship develops into a Dom/sub relationship – Jared can almost be classified as a ‘Daddy Dom’ type, and of course, Leigh is a total vanilla. When Leigh requests Jared be her inspiration by way of providing spankings if she deviates from their agreed workout and eating plan they come up with to help with Leigh’s developing diabetes issue, things go from there.
I love Jared. He comes across as a teddy bear whom everyone seeks comfort from; from the subbies requiring aftercare in Stronghold at the completion of a ‘scene’ for those Doms who don’t wish to provide it, to being Domme Olivia’s best friend. Because even a Domme needs someone to lean on sometimes.
I am devouring this series – I keep telling myself ‘Just one more page – I need to know what happens next’ more often than I should, and read in lieu of sleep! There are still editing issues – I just skim over those – they don’t really detract from the story in my opinion. All of the D/s & M/s couples are so diverse, it keeps the continuing story developing, keeping the reader’s attention.
Although this book, like all the other books in the series, can be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend you begin from book 1 in order to get to know the story behind every single D/s, M/s couple…I want to be a part of their group!
This is the first book from this author I've not loved, it felt flat, not much happened. The only obstacle we already knew about 5% in was not going to be one, just a mere annoyance. Guess I just couldn't really empathize with Leigh. But it was still an good read. Just not sizzling like the rest.
I liked the overall story, I was glad that Leigh and Jared finally got together, but--1. The waffling back and forth about his ex got to be too much. 2. She was just a little too forgiving and good hearted. And 3. There were proofreading errors still popping up all over the place.
Both Jared and Leigh have been burned by long term relationships where they weren't really valued and wanted. Even though they were both afraid to trust, they found comfort and healing in each other. It was easy for them both to be with the other, which shocked them both. Leigh decides to risk everything to ask him to discipline her to keep to her diet so that she can manage her blood sugar levels.
This is not the first Golden Angel novel I read. It won't be the last either. Normally books like this make me feel extremely uncomfortable. Her books don't. I'll be honest and state that I haven't really read a lot of books in this genre and the few I did weren't really that great. So, it's possible that I might like them. Who knows? All I know is that I don't feel uncomfortable reading books from Golden Angel. This book was really nice. The only problem I had was that there were a few scenes here and there that I felt got rushed over a bit too much.
Leigh is a very wholesome girl. She knows her flaw and she does what it takes to fix it. I like that about her. I can also really relate to the high blood sugar problem. In more ways than I care to admit. I really liked Jared a lot. He's very upfront and honest. He's not some broody and mysterious person who gets mad when people question him. It was a refreshing change. I can't really give an honest assessment of the background characters, but they all seemed fun and friendly and full of life! I'll have to go back and read some of the books in this series to know some of them better.
I have never heard any books by Rose Lane before. She's pretty talented. I really enjoyed listening to this book. She definitely helped elevate it in a lot of ways. I was impressed. I hope that she's the narrator for the rest of this series. She definitely nailed it.
I enjoyed this book far more than I thought I would. I had a feeling I would, though. Golden Angel has a talent. She knows how to make things exciting to read. I can see why people begged her to put her work into publishing. I'm glad they did too. The world would be without her literature if they didn't.
This is my 2nd Golden Angel book and I enjoyed it as much as my 1st book, “The Sassy Submissive”. She has a great writing style and I love this world she created and the characters in the world. The circle of friends belong to the same BDSM club, Stronghold, their friendships & relationships are unique and tight knit. They support and look out for each other. This is Jared & Leigh’s story, it is a friends to lovers. Both had just gotten out of longterm relationships, Jared’s ex, Marissa, belongs to the club and decides she wants him back. She stirs up trouble and lots of drama for both Jared and Leigh. It was nice to see the crew again, the alpha Doms and Subs. The scenes & kink was fairly pretty tame in this book, Jared is a Dom but nothing hardcore, some punishments, bondage and spanking. Loved the slow burn romance between Jared and Leigh. I am looking forward to listening to more from the Stronghold Doms! Thanks for another great story.
I listened to the Audible edition, Rose Lane is a wonderful narrator and voice performer. She brings the characters and their story to life from the pages to your ears. Thank you for a great listen!
Golden Angel has cemented herself as one of my go-to authors for in-depth, respectful, and well-researched BDSM romance. You don’t realize how sacred and valued her books are until you read something from an author outside the community who clearly has no clue and just vomits out some wild fantasy. That’s when you appreciate the difference—because Golden Angel? She gets it.
Each book in this series has showcased a different dom/sub dynamic, and this one might just be my second favorite (right behind book two). But let's be real—Jared? My favorite man, hands down. I wanted to reach into the pages and shake some sense into his ex, Marissa, because she just would not get the memo. Girl, he’s moved on. Meanwhile, Leigh? She was everything he needed. Scratch that. They needed each other. And don’t even get me started on Jared’s reaction when she called him Sir for the first time—I’m still flustered. I usually don’t do audiobooks, but I would have welcomed that moment in full sound.
And finally, after all the teasing, the next couple’s story is on deck. We’re finally getting Andrew and Kate’s book! I’ve been waiting for this one, and it’s about time.
Breaking the Chain can also be found in "Nights at Stronghold" box set. This book is one that is so relatable to me personally. Have you ever been on that relationship rollercoaster? You know, the one where you've invested years in a relationship and another person, trying desperately to make it work and yet the other person seems to disregard and stomp on everything you're trying to do, destroying you and what you're trying to build as a couple. Meet Jared and Leigh. If you've been following the Stronghold Doms series then you know what they've been going through. If you haven't, then you're in for an awakening. Golden Angel has absolutely nailed the emotional and physical toll of what such a relationship can produce. All the emotions, the fears, the emotional turmoil. Not just from one point of view, but from our two main characters, but from the entire circle of friends. Heart wrenching and heart warming but definitely not a fluff book. Thank you so much from those of us that have traveled this road.
After the setup in Pieces of Stronghold, I was eager to get into Jared and Leigh’s story. Note while you don’t have to have read Pieces of Stronghold or any of the other previous books to enjoy this, reading the series in order does help fill in background material and makes each book a richer experience.
I really liked the setup of a friends to lovers story here, plus that the two had so much in common. They each had an ex to move on from, which meant they really understood what the other was going through, and so they each reacted as a mature adult to the other’s ex drama. As someone who isn’t in the lifestyle, I also found Leigh to be particularly relatable, and I really enjoyed watching this relationship develop. Of course, we also get glimpses of other members of Stronghold, some coupled (or tripled) up and some not, and it was fun to see how some of those relationships are progressing as well. 5+ stars
Leigh and Jared's story had me transfixed from the beginning. Both of them have recently left long term relationships and are just enjoying being single. Leigh's breakup coming a bit easier than Jared's, his ex just doesn't understand the meaning of the word NO!! Their relationship begins as strictly friends, however emotions begins to change. Leigh also goes to Jared with a proposition that will forever change their friendship status.
Leigh begins to realise that what she truly needs Jared can provide, and Jared realises that Leigh is the embodiment of his every fantasy. I love the way Jared is with Leigh, fiercely protective, yet soft and tender at the same time. I loved their story and just wanted them to find true happiness together. They would have to be my favourite couple, so far.
"There was something nice about the idea of a man who wouldn't just care about her well-being, but would do something about it if she didn't take care of herself. Someone who would help give her motivation when her willpower wasn't enough and who would set down rules and immediate consequences."
I loved this story! There is so much suspense and drama for Jared and Leigh! It feels like they are swimming through quicksand to get to each other. There was a few times that I thought that Jared needed to toughen up a bit. I think that Leigh had more patience than I ever would in her situation but let me say that it is totally worth being frustrated with the two of them! LOL This is definitely that Golden Angle makes you wait and work for in the Stronghold Doms series and it is totally worth it!
This was an interesting couple. Both Jared and Leigh had baggage that they had to deal with so they found comfort with each other. Leigh is a total vanilla and wants to try the lifestyle. I liked Leigh experimenting. It gave great insight into how someone starts in the world of kink. Jared is more than happy to teach Leigh the ways. Jared is more like a disciplinarian for Leigh to keep her reaching for her goals. But as Leigh discovers she likes the softer kink, she is willing to try more. Jared is the perfect Dom for this. He has a softer side and patience of a saint. I really fell hard for these two and would love to read more about them.
Rose Lane has a great narration voice. She is easy to listen to and brings the story to life. I really enjoyed the innocence she gave Leigh. I look forward to hearing more from Rose Lane.
Huh, I thought I’d reviewed this book. I’ll have to check to make sure I reviewed all of them.
This is Jared’s and Leigh’s story, and they’re both getting over or past their ex’s. Each have been in very different seven year relationships, with different emotional outcomes. Jared’s was outright abusive. Leigh’s less so, but still with neither her nor her boyfriend willing to call it off, even with his philandering. This couldn’t have happened to a sweeter couple.
Seeing these two get together was terrific. It didn’t happen overnight, and I love how GA progresses their relationship. And I really hope Adams makes up for that awful last-minute oops proposal to Angel.
I love this book, I love this series!! Can be read as stand-alone, but so much better after reading the other books in the Stronghold Doms series and even the Venus Rising series first. The friend group as secondary characters is so great to continue reading in each of these books. Told in dual POV with HEA for this couple. I love Jared and Leigh and am so glad they found one another. Their relationship starts out as strictly friends supporting each other through both their breakups of long term relationships. Jared is so good for Leigh, and she is so good for him. One of my favorite couples!
This was a sweet story between Leigh and Jared. When the author writes she makes everything sound so real, like she was telling a personal story. She brings in real emotion with the characters and that helps to really connect with them. The author once again explores a different kink in the BDSM world. Each DOM at Stronghold has a little different way of living in the BDSM world.
In the previous books the author writes a lot in the first person. It makes it easier for me to know who is talking and who is being talked about. In this book it seems the author doesn't do that as much.
This book shouldn't be read as a stand alone. You won't get as much out of the book if you do.
I loved reading all of the books in Golden Angel’s Stronghold Doms series and was curious about the audio. I’m so glad I took the time to experience Jared and Leigh’s story again. They had such wonderful chemistry and their relationship grew in a very believable way. Rose Lane did a really nice job of bringing all the characters alive. As always it was wonderful having secondary characters being a big part of the story. This was really a pleasure to listen to and I will be checking out the other audiobooks in this series. I received an audible credit via Audiobook Obsessions.
This book is fantastic. The series has been building and giving hints about how great Leigh and Jared would be together and finally they get their moment in the spotlight. I love Leigh, her sweetness, humour and her friendship with Angel. There are some really funny and touching moments between the girls. Jared is kind and caring and seeing him come out of his shell into a relationship with someone who really loves him is wonderful. I love the dynamic between Leigh and Jared because it works for them and shows something different to the other couples in the series. I’m looking forward to the other books in the series because it just keeps getting better and better.
The ex drama actually added an interesting element to this one. Instead of just having to work around their own impressions and hang ups, they had baggage. The fact that they had matching baggage was really fitting as a couple. They knew how to deal with each other and what to accept and work on. That constant working together is what made it all work. Leigh is new to this world while having been on the sidelines, everyone knew she was submissive even if she didn’t. Jarrod was the perfect man to care for her and meet her needs. I loved seeing Leigh with a man that understood that she deserved more. A fun read with lots of sexy time, experimentation and kindness.
Jared and Leigh have each just come out of their own bad 7 year relationship and are not looking for a another one. But what starts as a friendship built on shared experiences quickly becomes more despite both of them trying to resist. I loved seeing them find someone who actually loved them as seeing how they were treated by their exes in previous books made you really want them to get something better. We also get to see their friends relationships progressing in this book as well, which I always enjoy.
Unbelievably hot and funny! Starting with The Venus School (Venus Rising Boxset) and continuing with all the Stronghold books you’ll get to meet all the Stronghold friends and their separate love stories. They are all delightful, romantic, terribly funny and hot, hot, hot! A thorough insight to the different aspects of the BDSM lifestyle, based on trust and caring for each other. I just had to read them all, one after the other, couldn’t put them down and had a super wonderful time doing it. I can’t tell you which one I prefer, so I put this review out on all of them. Highly recommended!
I was so glad to read Leigh and Jared's story. I had wanted nothing more then to see those two get together ever since I read about them in the book before this one. Marrisa was one of those characters that you want to reach into the story and just slap the sh@& out of cause she is that much of a b*&$^!! Its been a while since I have read a character's story that has made me feel that way. But I love it.
Jared and Leigh start as friends, bonding over their failed long term relationships with other people. Jared is a Dom. Leigh had submissive tendencies but isn't in the BDSM lifestyle. She's figuring out if she wants it. Their relationship develops while dealing with his stalker ex.
This is a good story with mostly just fun spankings. No heavy BDSM or punishment with the exception of a few hard spankings.
Before this book (and the previous book Pieces of Stronghold) I never expected Jared and Leigh to have a story together. However, it makes so much sense! I loved this book and I love them together. I feel like with every new book I read in this series I have a new favorite couple, and Jared and Leigh are no exception (although each of the couples have a spot in my favorite’s list I must admit). Definitely would recommend!
I really wanted to like this more than I did, because I was really looking forward to Jared's book 😔 But everything was hashed over too much. I'm really waffling between a 3.25 and 3.5 stars 🤷🏻♀️
It was nice to see another side to Adam in this one, when he was interacting with Leigh.
Sadly, Jared's style of Dom'ing is not for me. Service Dom is way too close to Daddy Dom for me 🤢🙅🏻♀️ The fact that he called her little girl was just a big no.
I just discovered this author, and I am hooked. Great book with enough heat and a good storyline. I want to keep reading and see how the characters from Stronghold continue to grow and find their loved ones. Breaking the chain is about two people with baggage and who truly understand each other.
This is Leigh and Jared’s story! Jared broke up with his ex and is seeing how it never truly will work out with them even though Marissa is determined to get him back with any cost. Leigh broke up with her ex and starts to fall for Jared. Two people that realize they deserve better but with all the drama can they be together? 5/5 stars
This is Jared and Leigh's story in the circle of friends at this BDSM Club. Jared and Leigh have been in long term relationships. Jared with Marissa and Leigh with Michael. Marissa kept sucking Jared back into her mess and Michael will not fight hard for Leigh. They finally find what they need with each other. Another one of the relationships at the BDSM Club.
