When Todd Keefe decided to start a high school band in 1994, he never realized how much it would take to fulfill his rock and roll fantasy. After a terrifying accident involving his band The Dawn Ego, his fame, fortune, and grunge lifestyle skyrocket... at a great cost. Facing bizarre obstacles, a terrifying reality, and suffocating circumstances, Todd must reevaluate his life if he ever hopes to reach true “nirvana.”
Oedipussy is the story of a young man with a lifetime of dreams. It is the story of 1994. It is the story of today. It is the story of Grunge Rock, and the passion and dedication fame requires. It is also the story of what happens when your dreams do not entirely match up with reality.
Twin Falls, Idaho is the setting of this adventurous, sexually charged, and exciting rock and roll drama that blurs the boundaries of what contemporary fiction can accomplish.

More often then not I get emotionally invested in the novels I read; I become attached to well-written characters, and find myself literally gasping when the author puts them through the wringer. Todd O'Keefe, our protagonist, shares with us his journey from fever dreams of rock and roll down an ever-darkening rabbit hole to dreams of an entirely different nature. Solomon Deep has captured the very essence of the dying tribe of 90's grunge rockers, grasping and clinging to the gritty reality of honest music while fighting the status quo. He makes you feel the desperate ennui of a born star stuck in middle America and gives us a deep, dark look into the psyche of our fears and desires; our past, present and future colliding-and all balancing on the choices we make when they are laid out for us. When we are faced with adversity, do we fold at the knees or do we fold our broken wings and stand proudly to meet it? Oedipussy was a beautiful, brilliant novel full of sharp humor, tragedy, and above all: art and strength.
The cover and name of this book piqued my curiosity. I enjoyed reading a story about a teenager in the 90's who was passionate about grunge music and dreamed of having a successful band. After his dreams are derailed, he manages to make lemonade out of a barrel of lemons. The references were nostalgic, the story was quick paced, and the writing was easy to read. Also, I loved the font of the page headers. Small thing, but it was a unique and fun detail that added a little something to the book.
I really enjoyed this book. It drew me in from the beginning. I quickly forgot I was reading a book; I could see the story unfolding in my head as if I was watching a movie. Definitely would recommend !!!!
*I received this book free in exchange for an honest review Todd from Twin Falls is both real and charming. The author has made their main character flawed. Human. Someone you could find on the streets of an average small town. This wonderful, refreshing twist in story telling makes the novel difficult to put down. As a reader, you want to, or rather need to know what happens to this talented young dreamer. At the start, youre almost lead to believe Todd is awful. Hes clumsy with the chords and not quite the performer his girlfriend seems to believe. Its not that hes a bad musician, understand, its nerves. Hes got anxiety. It makes it hard for him to convince his friends to join his band. Even so, he doesnt give up. He gets them aboard and they become something great, something incredible. They book their first gig and by the end theyve got an entire room of fans. They're amazing. But this story doesnt end the way youd expect it to. No, Oedipussy is not your average small town rock star story. This is brilliant. This is beautiful and unexpected. Soloman Deep takes his readers on a roller coaster ride of unexpected twists and emotions. I guarantee readers will lose themselves in this story. Its THAT good. If youre looking for something inspiring in an unconventional way, this is the novel for you.
It was the cover of Oedipussy as well as the odd name that drew me to reading this book. I’m not particularly a fan of grunge music but the idea of a coming of age story set in the ‘90s sounded like a good read. Todd is almost out of high school and his sole dream in life is to be part of a famous grunge band and tour the world with his girlfriend by his side. The first half of the book is about just that and I can’t say that the writing style really held my interest. It’s heavy on the music side of things, a bit of adolescent sex, and not too big on character development. About half way through, there’s a major twist in the story that is somewhat easy to figure out but from that point on I found that the story really picked up. Todd’s character becomes more fleshed out and his relationship with others is interesting. Without giving anything away, Todd’s growth as he tries to realize his dream and deal with his reality makes for interesting reading and the book was much better reading. A pure music fan will probably enjoy the entirety of the book because they’ll appreciate Todd’s obsession with his music. The digital form of the book worked well on my ereader. As I said above, the cover definitely draws the eye to it.
Oedipussy by Solomon Deep is a brilliant story whose cover could be very misleading. It could have suggested anything but sex. I also wondered why the author used a title with the sleazy pussy in it. Nevertheless, it turns out this is a very satisfying read, a book with many lessons for both young and old, well-crafted with very interesting characters.
It is 1994, and for Todd Keefe, creating a powerful rock and roll band is everything that could give his life meaning, and although he succeeds to create such a band in high school, life comes crashing down on him. After suffering a serious accident with his band, Todd's life changes dramatically and he begins to ask the questions that matter.
This story shows clearly that what we hope for cannot always be what we get. Its a story of a mans radical journey towards inner freedom. Like the protagonist many people get to understand that they cant get everything they want and that happiness isn't always to be found in getting what we want but in listening to our life's song with openness of spirit. The writing is very beautiful and I enjoyed the characters and how they develop in the story. Its a very inspiring read.
