To Die For: The Dangerous Truth About Following Christ

Rate this book
You had such expectations. Such hopes. Such plans. But life isn't working out the way you thought it would. Jesus answers the void with abundant LIFE. But to get it, you have to DIE—die to self and the quick fixes of this world.
Fact is, if you have nothing worth dying for, you have nothing really worth living for. In To Die For, Ryan Dobson passionately demonstrates what it means to die to self. We may never face physical death for our faith, but we're called to daily deny ourselves doses of this earthly existence. And to pursue the amazing LIFE Jesus promises.
Don't settle for AVERAGE. Get a LIFE . . . it's to die for.

Not deep, but not bad. Good for new believers or individuals who make a profession of faith, but need to be challenged in their walk. Focuses on dying in Christ, to self, and living an abundant life, going all out and taking risks for Him. Living the Christian life isn't supposed to be a cake walk.

Good book, pretty simple and easy read... I would recommend it to a teenager or young adult who has just begun their relationship with the Lord. All about dying to your self and living for God, being radical in your walks to live life to the fullest that God has for you.

This is a pretty good eye opener, especially for new beginners about dying to yourself and learning to walk with Christ. Ryan brings up some excellent points on how we can do this, and the book is very straightforward and easy to read.

The only reason I give it a mediocre rating is simply that the book itself is not very deep and at times, gets a little redundant. Personally, I would have enjoyed seeing more examples of how, if I were a new believer, I could demonstrate my commitment to Christ by "dying" or dying, necessary.

The book does include a fairly thorough Q&A at the end, if you were to use this for a bible study or small group reading.

Ryan Dobson was not beyond hardship and heartache even though he is the son of Christian "celebrities" James and Shirley Dobson. But with brutal honesty, Ryan talks about his divorce and tailspin and how God pursued him like a hound of heaven, to borrow from Francis Thompson. This book and the follow up book, 2 Live 4, are both good books to read to challenge the Christian to more than a mediocre life...
