“A master of her craft.” —Maggie Shayne

Holly Parrish has never met anyone like Micah his dark eyes, his movie-star smile, the indefinable way he looks at her. Even when she thought he was no more than another client for her investment firm, her lust overpowered her logic.

But she never expected this attraction to whisk her from her busy southern California life to a silent and eerie ghost town in Wyoming. Only vampires call the deserted place home—and one of them is Micah. He says he’s brought her to Morgan Creek for her safety, that vicious creatures are hunting her. But how can Holly trust him? One look and she can see the need barely restrained behind Micah’s polite words. The heat of his kiss, the pleasure of his touch—none of it can tell her whether he wants her as his lover—or his prey . . .

'Twilight Dreams' by Amanda Ashley is the story of Holly Parrish and Micah Ravenwood. I thought this could be a standalone book but I will be honest and say that I loved the secondary Kadie and Rylan Saintcrow so much I stop reading this one about half way in. I wanted to go find what book the secondary charcters were in...which was "As Twilight Falls" so I bought that book from Amazon and started reading it. Once done with that one I moved back to this one. "As Twilight Falls' does cover how Micah came to be and his former relationship with the older human he had but nothing that would really impact this story I thought. I just wanted to be caught up with what was going on with Rylan and Kadie too.
Micah is a newly turned Vampire that happens to meet Holly when she thinks he is a potential client for work that she has set up to meet. Once she discovers the truth she stays talking to Micah and he ask her out for a real date. While on there date he happens to find an enemy of Rylan who is looking to 'kill' him. Micah thinks that they will use Holly to get to him then in turn go to Rylan so he takes Holly with him back 'home'. There she struggles to understand what he is and what is going on along with her feelings that are growing for Micah. I liked the play out of their relationship...how they grew to understand each other too.
I received an eARC, from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.

I had a hard time deciding whether to rate this book three stars or four. There was a lot of emotional pull in this book but I had a side feeling while reading this book that there was an underlining sort of structure that basically felt like the best way to get over someone is to be with someone else however you also can't help when your heart decides to open itself that's a thing you find taking place as Micah struggles to piece himself together and open his heart to Holly.

I actually really liked them together and I liked how Holly challenged him as well. It created an interesting dynamic because she brought him out of his mourning and frustrated him made him care.

I liked that about her even though she had a tendency to be a little bit annoying but there was a tenacity that I could respect as well. I've always liked Ashley's books and her writing, I liked Twilight Dreams as well.

As of the start of this review, I'm about 50 pages in and I think I already like this book more than I liked the first in this series. I feel like this is due in large part to the fact that I have already seen a great deal more from Micah's perspective than we did Saintcrow's. We met Micha in the first book and, given our first "meeting," I wasn't certain how much I would like him as a hero of his own story. He actually feels more developed with a solid backstory. Knowing what we do of his family and history (especially having a good percentage of the story told from his point of view thus far) I feel like I care about him more already. I sympathize more with him; hopefully the trend continues.

Holly is still pretty generic. She is pretty, smart, does her chores every Saturday, and loves to eat. So far, she doesn't differ very much from Kadie (other than her career) and she's still pretty generic. I hope she develops more as the story goes on.

We've also been introduced to some villains already, which is nice. I like starting a book off with an undercurrent of conflict; it makes for a better story and a more intense read. I think, perhaps, this is some of what the first book in this series was missing. Granted, Saintcrow and the rest of the vampires in Morgan Creek are technically the villains, but we don't get an external villain until much, much later in the book. This is probably why it felt like the story (and Kadie's conversations and conflict with Saintcrow) kept going in circles. There had to be something to keep the story moving until an external villain could be introduced. I like the villains thus far and I'm looking forward to the inevitable clash.

I'm hoping for a bit more of an explanation as to why Holly (who works solely in a formal business world) would be meeting a prospective new employee at a goth club. It feels a bit unbelievable and REALLY unprofessional on his part. Maybe it was a trap? I'm hoping to find out more as I continue onward.

***

I still prefer the development of Micah's character to Saintcrow's. I feel the sympathy toward him that was missing for me in the first book of this series. I care about him more. He feels more tortured, perhaps because, in some ways, he's still coming to terms with his vampire existence. Holly, on the other hand, feels very similar to Kadie (i.e. generic). They have the same reaction and mentality toward vampires (which I suppose is reasonable), the same obsession with food, and no real defining hobbies or traits (personality or physical) that set them apart or make them unique from a caricature of what, perhaps, someone expects a modern woman to be. Take away their physical descriptions and professions...and they're basically the same woman. They're both virgins (there's nothing wrong with this, but I'm definitely noticing a trend: the men are very possessive, the women are innocent virgins, there's a lot of steamy kissing, and the sex usually winds up very vanilla (nothing but missionary) -- man, does this last one make me sound like a kink, but I promise I'm not). Neither of them really seems to have a defining history or past. Both of them occupy themselves the same ways (nothing more than movies and books). Their scenes always seem to start with or involve food (usually overly-descriptive, mass quantities of food).

I still like the fact that this book has more tangible villains; it makes for a more exciting read. Even if Holly is falling a bit flat for me, I think the plot is moving well and it doesn't feel as "trapped in a cycle" as Kadie and Saintcrow's book did.

***

Well, I finished this book last night and I can safely say that I did end up liking it more than I did the first in the series. Kadie and Saintcrow played large roles in this sequel and, I can say with definitiveness now, that Kadie remains rather underdeveloped (as does the relationship between Kadie and Saintcrow). Saintcrow did gain a little bit more individuality in this book (which is surprising because he was not the male lead), so it made him a bit more interesting.

I did end up liking Micah a great deal more than Saintcrow in the first book. As a male lead, Micah was better developed, more individualized, and had a much better-explained backstory. This is probably due in large part because he's such a young vampire that he still has living human relatives. It helped show what he was like as a human and gave me a much better sense of who he was as a character. (Now, I'm not saying that the only reason Saintcrow was underdeveloped was because he had no living human relatives...there are a lot of ways he could have become more well-rounded.) He was witty and his personality suited his age. I understood his attraction to Holly a bit better than I did Saintcrow's to Kadie, but it still fell a little bit short. I'm stuck asking the same question: What makes these women so damn unique? They may be attractive and resistant to their vampiric charms, but that could be any one of hundreds, if not thousands, of women. We see very little of Holly's family life (until the very end of the book) and nothing of her friends. I felt like there was a big feud being hinted at when Holly mentioned that he father was a believer in vampires and hated them with a passion, but it never came to fruition. Holly remained pretty flat, never quite setting herself apart from any other female lead in a vampire romance novel. She loves the man; she is put off by the vampire; and she doesn't long for eternal life, but will accept it if it means she never has to leave the man she loves. (Possibly a minor spoiler: This is just a side note and I may be reading too much into this, but I REALLY cannot imagine any modern twenty-something picking fingertip veils for her bridesmaids... This choice shattered the illusion for me because it felt really dated.)

I still had a few issues with the flow of the dialogue and there were some repetitive phrases, words, and conversations that simply struck me the wrong way. This probably won't bother others as much, but I wanted to at least mention it.

I did mention before that I liked the fact that there were more tangible villains in this book. It turns out that there were a few (we're introduced to another later in the book) and this made for a more dynamic plot. However, I admit that the "big fight scenes" felt a little bit anticlimactic. The action was fairly glossed over. I didn't feel like I was watching an intense battle, rather hearing a quick account of what took place.

The last few chapters did set up the protagonists and villain for the third book in this series, which is scheduled to be released in a few weeks (and of which I also received an advanced copy in return for my honest review). If these few chapters were any indication, we're in for our most combative male lead yet. I am pretty certain I know who his female counterpart will be and I hope she matures and becomes a better-developed female lead than we've seen previously.

Overall, I liked this book more than the first in this series. I appreciate that Morgan Creek is like the vampires' base -- their haven -- and I look forward to seeing how this continues and what becomes of the town now that there's no one to take care of it. What will Saintcrow decide to do with it? The story has potential, I just hope we get to see a more dynamic female lead.

I am usually a pretty big Amanda Ashley fan, but this book did not sit well with me at all. Maybe it was because I came in on the sequel, and more was explained in the first book? I cannot really put my finger on it, but I will say that I requested the book based on the author and the blurb, which seemed appealing. The leading female seemed interesting enough, but the leading male...was adrift at best, and even for a young vampire he did not seem to have much of himself together. With an overall count of 400 pages, I stopped myself about 20 percent into the book and realized the story was a little bit starved for detail and interactions between the main characters but I kept pushing because I realized it was not the first book. At one point, the heroine admits that she hardly knows him but she’s falling in love with him. We see that a lot in books, but normally something has happened between the two to reinforce the strength of this emotion. At 66 percent into the book we reach a place where they are finishing each other’s sentences, but there had been no significant romantic interactions – which is okay, if the story is filled with emotion and action. Something. Instead I was left wondering where the depth was. Additionally, while I admit I did not read the first book, the idea that a town was built to trap humans as blood slaves and somehow the grand leader of this entire plan has become a standup guy and leader in the second book...was a little bit perplexing to me. I do not want to be overly negative, so I will say the story will probably work for some people but it did not work for me.

Loved this second book in the Morgan Creek series! I always love a good vampire story! Micah is a newly turned vampire who just lost the woman he loves. Micah leaves Morgan Creek in hopes to forget his sorrow. In an unusual, mistaken identity he meets Holly Parrish. When Holly learns what Micah is, she doesn't know what to do with her feelings. Read this great story to find out more!

Book 2 in the Morgan Creek series

I LOVED LOVED LOVED the first book in this series, As Twilight Falls. Saintcrow and Kadie are to die for! So, I loved that those two play a significant roll in this story about Holly Parrish and Micah Ravenwood. It was so nice to see previous characters that contributed more to the story than just a brief appearance in the book (which is what happens in most series). I'm so happy that Ms. Ashley took her time and really included Saintcrow and Kadie in the plot. Now, I didn't love Holly and Ravenwood as much as I did the previous characters, but I enjoyed their story.

Ravenwood is friends with Saintcrow and lived in Morgan Creek for a time. I honestly can't remember if Ravenwood popped up in the previous book. He meets Holly in a bar and they have an instant attraction. Holly finds out that Ravenwood is a vampire pretty early in the book. But, there is a threat to them all as an old vampire wants to finally get her revenge on Saintcrow, which puts them all at risk. I found the ending very satisfying and a nice set-up to the (possible) next book in the series! At least I hope so! I took off a star for lack of chemistry between Ravenwood and Holly. Oh well, I guess not every character can be like Saintcrow or Kadie. ;o)

Oh no. What was I thinking? The synopsis sounded so ridiculous, that I thought this book could be entertaining. I was horribly wrong. The writing is TERRIBLE. The dialogue when the main characters first meet is 4 pages of cringe - She mistakes him for someone else, he doesn't correct her right away, he assumes she was born near Christmas since her name is "Holly," she finds out that he's not her dude and gets mad at him, then she forgives him and asks if he's married, they talk about vampires and how she wants "dozens" of kids, finally we get a list of all of her Saturday errands and they agree to a date. Also, when they decide to meet at a movie theater, she directs him to "the theater on Main street." THEY ARE SUPPOSEDLY IN L.A.!! "The theater on Main street"??

I could go on, but it's pointless. DNF at 150 pages and I would give this zero stars if I could.

Ugggg, yet again I find myself reading Amanda Ashley-knowing full well the outcome of such an endeavor-and once again I am subjected to the cookie cutter of bland and dull vampire romance. I shall explain the plot and then tell you the ways in which I didn't like this book. Are you sitting comfortably? Then we'll begin.

The hero and heroine meet in a bar late one night while she's there for work and he's there to dispel the loneliness of his existence. They hit is off right away, and a few days following go out together on dates and such. Then, the hero realizes he's being followed by a dangerous vampire who will use the heroine as a means to getting to the true target, the hero's friend. So, he does the only logical thing and kidnaps her-bringing her to the ranch where he lives with his friend and his friend’s wife.

The heroine wakes up disoriented and angry. But when he tells her that there's a vampire after her and that he himself if a vampire, she is horrified and repealed by this notion-believing him to be a vampire. While she learns to accept his help and even learns to keep an open mind when it comes to vampirism she still has thoughts of him drinking blood. Worse, because he can read her mind, she begins to doubt what she feels for him is real or just a compulsion.

The hero is young, having only been changed against his will a few years ago. He’s missing his human family who aren't aware of his change and he fears his lust and craving for the heroine will end up putting her in danger. He comes and goes, one time drawn to her and her kisses while the next pushing her away when the cravings become too strong. But what is constant is his love for her. He may have only known her for a few weeks but he feels alive when she is near. But when she is attacked and lies dying from blood loss, he takes the chance that she'll hate him and changes her. Now, she much come to terms with what she is and her new life in the darkness-but what she knows for sure is that she has the hero by her side.

Okay, once again it feels like this author uses a freaking mad lib book to write her stories. I swear to God; this book is almost EXACTLY like every other book that came before. It's like I didn't even have to read it, I knew what was going to happen and when without fail. It's written like a paint by numbers. There is ZERO sexual chemistry between the characters. ZERO character depth or evolution. ZERO attempt to make a plot, any plot, more interesting than a movie made for the W Network. It would be laughable really, if it didn't make me so mad. Why do I even try anymore? And better yet, which the decline in paranormal romance publishing, how does this author get the green light to put halfhearted far below par drivel at us? It makes no sense. Suffice to say I didn't like it. Mrs. Ashley needs some soul searching, she needs Jesus or a freaking vacation to Tibet to discover how to write a decent romance novel cause she ain't hacking' it.

ARC REVIEW

Twilight Dreams is book two of the Twilight series, for me it's okay to read without reading the first one first. I really didn't care for it. The characters were just okay I really didn't feel a connection with them; the story was okay but it seemed a little never ending half way through I'm just rolling my eyes thinking this isn't over yet. There was too much build up for how bad it's going to be and then it's over in a couple of paragraphs. It was anticlimactic and the romance between them was ehhh. When it comes to vampires I don't really care for the "I'm died and came back to life a vampire I love you let's have sex" kind of vampires it's a little too close to necrophilia for me; unless the vampire is evil like the traditional Dracula, or Nosferatu, then them being dead is okay I prefer them that way. I found Holly kind of annoying she was too wishy washy back and forth. Micah I kind of liked I liked his big family more they were the best part of the story.

Micah lost the "love" of his life, she didn't love him enough to change into a vampire for him and died peacefully in her sleep of old age. Micah vowed never to fall in love again unless she was already a vampire. So of course a year later he meets Holly. Holly mistakes him for her client and is so swept away with his good looks and charm she quickly falls for him. But as much as Micah tries he can't stay away from her. Unfortunately Micah is in the wrong place at the wrong time and a vampire who has a vendetta against Rylan, Micah's mentor and good friend, finds out Micah's connection to Rylan. Micha knows he's in danger know and fearing for Holly's life Micah kidnaps her and takes her to the ghost town that Rylan turned into a haven for vampires. Rylan uses his special vampire magic to put up a protection ward around the town. Way too much time was used up trying to convince Holly they weren't evil and bloodthirsty and Holly spent way too much time changing her mind back and forth automatically thinking the worst about them before hearing the whole story.

Overall, the story just went on and on and was kind of redundant. Micah's huge friendly family was the best part of the story.

I loved the characters especially Micah and the secondary characters were interesting and engaging. It definitely left me wanting to read Kadie and Rylan Saintcrow's book As Twilight falls.
Micah a newly turned vampire ends up taking Holly back to his home when he thinks she is in danger from the bad guys.
As much as i loved Micah I did find Holly irritating at times, she did have some quality's i liked.
Overall this was a well written vampire tale and i did enjoy it, this is the first book i have read by this author and i will read more.

I received this book from net gallery for an honest review.

Micah is grieving the loss of a woman he loved - he promises himself that in the future, he will fall in love with a vampire.

Micah is drawn to Holly from the moment he meets her. Their date is cut short when Bragga sees them; he immediately whisks her away to Morgan Creek.

How will Holly react to Micah being a vampire?

Will Saintcrow's wards prevent Bragga and her minion from entering Morgan Creek?

I liked Micah right from the beginning. I sympathised with him for his loss and his dilemma in pursuing Holly. I found Holly annoying and frustrating throughout. She freely agrees to stay in Morgan Creek until Bragga is dealt with, yet she tries to escape when she arrives. As the book progressed, I didn't like how she behaved towards Micah. The book dragged on in places and kept repeating the same things over again. Holly's hot and cold behaviour threw their chemistry off balance. When you get a glimmer of spark between them, Holly's mouth/attitude usually fizzles things down which was a shame.

I liked the narrative but was disappointed with the heroine - who I didn't like and struggled to connect too. Unfortunately, this book wasn't to my taste, but I'm sure it would appeal to others. Please don't let my review, deter you from reading this book - you never know it might be for you.

I was excited that I found another paranormal romance!

I started reading it and I kept putting the book down, it really didn't keep my attention. So I told myself, "Give it a try since I bought the book."

How the book started in a goth bar reminded me of the typical vampire movies. When Micah disappears into a 'mist', I thought what vampire turns into mist? I had this idea of vampires in my head based on the show 'Charmed'... There wasn't really much to the book. Just Holly's house, Morgan Creek, & Arizona. She was very quick to decide on getting married and it was nontraditional how Holly asked him to marry her. (♥️♥️)

The plot seemed very sparse. Leticia Braga is after Saintcrow. Hmm... to me it was like, 'Fight. Fight. Fight. Ok I won!' Quick and easy. Now Leticia's brother is after them and even when Micah fought him, it was another 'Fight, fight and rip his heart out! Wham-bam, thank you, ma'am." That's it?!?

I was getting the feel that maybe the author writes only romance books and wrote a paranormal romance as an afterthought. This book had no excitement. I now realize that she's written plenty of paranormal books. I felt like she was in a rush writing this one, "Well, here you go. I am done."

Also, Holly's cousin, Ethan is now a vampire. Ok, what else happens? Did he meet Sofie? Was he ok being a vampire? Did Saintcrow kill him?

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

Holly went to the Club to meet with a prospective client. This is where she sees Micah for the first time. She thinks he is the most handsome man she has ever met and falls in lust. She mistakes him for the client and after a bit he tells her she has mistaken him, he is not the client.

Micah is a vampire, a fairly young one. A year ago, he lost the woman he loved. She was human and passed away. He is lonely and now he feels like he should look for a Vampire mate. He sees Holly at the club and is very attracted to her.

Evil is lurking though and if it must, it will go through Micah to get revenge on Micah's good friend Rylan. And the evil will put Holly's life in danger also.

Can Micah keep Holly safe? Can they ignore their feelings for one another?

I was not disappointed in any way by this book. I loved Micah and Holly together! When Micah took Holly back to Rylan's to keep her safe, I could actually feel her anger and frustration. The attraction issue didn't help either. It was fun to watch this couple fall in love and not even realize it.
I have read many books by this author and really enjoy her. She definitely does Paranormal right!

I love all of Amanda Ashley previous vampire stories, so of course I jumped at the chance to read Twilight Dreams. But with a sad heart I have to say that this was a big letdown for me.

In Twilight Dreams Micah Ravenwood was getting over a broken heart after losing the women he loved. He told himself he would never love another human ever again. Until one day, Holly Parrish entered his life.

Holly come to the night club to meet a prospective employee. Mistaking Micah as that client they hit it off, until Micah hand to finally let her know that he wasn’t the gentleman that she was sent to me. However, that didn’t turn her off from liking Micah and wanting to see him again. Until old enemy of Rylan made an appearance and now that enemy has their sights on Holly.

Twilight Dreams was a well-developed story, with a lot of intrigue to boot. But the romance fizzled out as soon as Micah and Holly become a couple. What saved the story for me though was Micah.

I connected with Micah from the start and you couldn’t help but fall in love with him. Micah, Rylan and Kadie saved this story from being a totally snooze fest.

But Amanda Ashley will always be one of the authors I go to for my vampire fix.

I felt like I was reading an alternate version of As Twilight Falls. While I know this is book 2, there was not enough differences to give this book a feel of its own.

I was also disappointed with the characters.

I was so disappointed with TWILIGHT DREAMS. I’ve always been okay with Amanda Ashley’s books having the same feel or order to them… They are going to fall in love, the female will freak out at finding out he’s a vampire and either run or accept him, a villain will come to town and in some way will force the female to be turned into a vampire and they will live happily ever after. I’m okay with knowing that. What I’m not okay with is having the same storyline just with new characters.

For the most part, TWILIGHT DREAMS was exactly the same as AS TWILIGHT FALLS. We were back in the now deserted town where Holly couldn’t leave and was forced to make a life there. Micah wasn’t nearly as fun as Rylan and there was hardly any romance between them until the end and that was in the epilogue.

There is no way I could have loved this book. There was no originality and no romance.

This book had so much promise...and the writer did a decent job of setting up the characters, but much of the set up went no where and ultimately left me thinking WTF.

For example, a big deal was made about Holly being a virgin, and saving herself as she promised her dead grandmother... That storyline just hung out there...

When they did have sex, it was an afterthought, no reader involvement we are just told how it was... Of course wonderful.

There were some threatened my characters but they were one dimensional with no depth. Every event that could have created long lasting tension was cleared up positively.

She loses her virginity, she's fine, she gets killed and becomes a vampire it's great, they get married and are stalked by one line vampire who gets killed -- no tension there.

So so so disappointing!

Many things annoyed me about this book. The logic of a page or chapter doesn't hold up, never mind the world building or characterization. The heroine's big, important, and fulfilling job goes up in smoke because it was inconvenient plot-wise. People change long-held views and make decisions at the drop of a hat. A whole lotta grah.

Like another reviewer, I started this one first then dropped it, ran back and got the first one, and am I glad I did. This series is darker than her usual fare (though this one not nearly as dark as book one). I like it, I'm looking forward to the next one.

Wished I had read the first in the series, but I got along fine without it. Typical vampire romance, he's a vampire, she gets into trouble because of him. Enemies are everywhere (and unending).
