Rate this book
From Secrets to Redemption…a Mail Order Bride set in Nebraska. Meet Romina, the young innocent bride-to-be and Raymond, an arrogant cowboy in search of a fine woman …

Young Romina Holmström is growing up in the heart of Boston, 1872. Her widower father, Luden is struggling to make ends meet by arranging a marriage between a wealthy Nebraska farmer and an English woman whose family is low on fortune but rich in title. The English woman, Evangeline Allum, is straight off the boat from Liverpool and into Luden’s home when her “sea sickness” turns out to be deadly.

Afraid for his daughter and his own financial strife, Luden forces his beautiful Romina to take Evangeline’s place as the farmer’s future wife. But when Romina meets Raymond Humes she sees a pompous, over-privileged man who is used to getting his way.

If she is to remove herself from a marriage to a man she cannot love, she is faced with exposing her father as a liar and possibly worse. Romina has to decide if she will pretend to be Evangeline for the rest of her life or if she will run from the arrogant Raymond, who seems to be hiding a secret of his own.

Romina quickly finds out that marrying Raymond was the easy part; being his wife in life and in bed is where things get tricky. Being unable to perform her “duties” as a wife creates serious unrest in the Humes household.

As signs of Raymond’s secret begin to reveal themselves, Romina is thrown into a search for clues. When she starts to make an effort to be a better wife and homemaker, Raymond begins to see Romina in a new light. The two may be strangers living in the same house, but their defenses begin to drop, and their hearts begin to open.

When the newlyweds go to a town meeting together, Jeb Pickering, a troublemaker, attacks the couple. Raymond’s strength of body and character show Romina a glimpse into the unguarded heart of the man she married. She knows that she can overlook his deepest secrets, but can she let herself love and be loved by a man who doesn’t even know her real name?

Romina’s secret could break her marriage to Raymond wide open. How will he ever forgive her? Will she tell him before someone else does… In the middle of the turmoil, the young couple faces new unexpected challenges that might bring them further apart or closer together…

Reviewed at Romantic Historicals

From Secrets to Redemption was once available as a three part serial… which have now been combined into this novel. And while I enjoyed it for the most part, I must confess to being often confused within this story as to the motives and feelings of some of the characters. For instance, for the earlier part of the story I felt Raymond was an arrogant, uppity, rude and nasty man and it would be a horror for Romina to be saddled with this jerk for the remainder of her life. It wasn’t until the middle (I suppose the second of the serial stories) that Raymond began to slowly soften his attitude and act more human. I’m sorry to say I just couldn’t like the man.

Of course, Romina is holding onto her own secrets and lies as well. I think this story showed the reality of mail order marriages far better than some stories who have the couple in love by the tenth page. This story is edgy, dark at times and the actions of the main characters are, at times, a puzzle to be worked out. They have the chance to find love in each other, and a good, solid marriage eventually. But first they have to get through some really rough roads, and a near tragedy before they will truly value who the other person truly is.

Awesome

This was a good book. This is the 2nd book I read from this author and I liked this book much better. The ending wasn't so rushed and even though I would love a sequel I felt content.

Great history of tomance.

The story is good and probably true as it happened in those times. The way things were arranged and carried out long ago was interesting. The characters seemed realistic.

Although I skipped the bedroom scene since it was getting to hot for my taste, I truly enjoyed the rest of this book and the twists and turns! It held me captive and it's hard to believe with so much detail that it was a short story!

I enjoyed the audio version of this book and I finished it in a couple of hours!

I was drawn to this story because of the connection to Nebr since there are few, if any, mail order bride settings that take place there. Not sure why Nebr was chosen as the setting as there was nothing at all that indicated that's where it was. There were many missing words, short, choppy sentences, one time when Nevada was mistaken for Nebr and the whole story felt amateurish. You really need to set aside reality if you want to believe any of it. I didn't really care for the H or h and the connection between the two was not very good. I only finished it because I was trying to kill a couple of hours and hoped the story got better as it went along. It didn't.

This is a good Mail Order Bride book. I enjoyed it, I couldn't put it down. I don't want to give any secrets away so the review will be short. It was one of the best books, I loved the plot and the characters. This is a well written book. I always enjoy these mail order bride books.

Excellent book!

From Secrets To Redemption was a very good historical romance! If you enjoy reading about mail order brides, then this book is a must read. I really liked the main characters in this story and the plot of the story is great, twisted and different. Though I enjoy "clean romance" as my preferred genre, I just skipped the "hot scene" and it didn't take away from the book at all it still flowed well. The book was excellent and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good mail-order bride story!
