FBI agent Nina Brandt loves her job. Sure, she’s made some enemies, but she knows she’s making the world a better place. It’s lonely at times, but she has good friends to get her through. It’s a good life.
Little does she guess that her past is about to come back and haunt her . . . in more ways than one.
When Navy SEAL Quinn Stone learns that his geeky younger brother, Ty, hacked into the TSA’s No Fly List, he would rather take a bullet than go to his former fiancée, Nina Brandt, for help. Five years ago, she resented his commitment to his SEAL team and gave him an ultimatum—her or the team. He chose the team. But now, he and his brother have no other choice . . . not if he doesn’t want to see the kid behind bars.
Nina has finally moved on, but she can’t resist Ty’s plea for help . . . especially when he drops a bomb that could rock national security. The laptop he’d used to hack the TSA has been stolen. Fearing terrorists would do just about anything to get their hands on this list, Nina agrees to take the case to her team. After all, this will become an FBI matter and Quinn’s help won’t be needed . . . as much as she’s starting to want it.
But the thief has more on his mind than just the list. He’s been waiting for a chance to get back at the woman who sent him to prison two years ago. And he intends to make her pay—in the most painful way possible . . .
SUSAN SLEEMAN is the bestselling author of over sixty romantic suspense and mystery novels with more than two million books sold. She writes romantic suspense novels that are clean with inspiring messages of faith. Readers love her series for the well-drawn characters and edge-of-your-seat action. She graduated from the FBI and local police citizen academies, so her research is spot-on and her characters are real.
In addition to writing, Susan also hosts The Suspense Zone. She has lived in nine states but now calls Oregon home. Her husband is a retired church music director, and they have two beautiful daughters, two special sons-in-law, and four amazing grandsons
This is the second book in the Agents Under Fire series. It serves well as a stand-alone. If you like strong female protagonists, you will certainly like this book.
Nina Brandt is an FBI Agent, as well as her two closest female friends. Nina is still trying to get over her last broken relationship with Navy SEAL Quinn Stone.
Quinn's teenage brother, Ty , is a hacker .... a very good one. He has hacked into the federal government's No Fly List and added a friend's name .. who happens to be an American Muslim. Immediately, chatter begins about a possible terrorist attack.
Quinn drags his brother to Nina for help in keeping his brother out of jail. Both calling a truce, they join to help Ty and keep the country safe at the same time. Nina finds herself skating on very thin ice when it comes to her boss and her job.
What follows is a desperate search for Ty's computer, which also has directions on how to hack into the government's data base.
An ex-con that Nina helped put away years ago is out of prison and he has Ty's computer. He puts in place a plan to make Nina pay for his perceived persecution and make a lot of money selling the info to a terrorist group.
There is plenty of action, practically non-stop. The characters are well drawn. Quinn is your typical macho SEAL ... he serves to save .. and he's willing to go to any lengths to protect Nina and his brother. He's not about to lose her again. Nina is strong, self-sufficient, and does her job without crossing the boundaries ... until now.
The sub-stories I really enjoyed were the issues that had kept Quinn and Nina part. She's still dealing with the death of her younger brother when she was a child. Quinn is dealing with trying to figure out where he fits in this world if he is no longer a SEAL. He also has commitment phobia ... afraid that he is more like his emotionally distant father than he would like to be.
This book has a sub-classification of Romantic Suspense. There are no explicit intimate situations. A kiss here and there. Clean reading.
Many thanks to the author / BelleBooks / Bell Bridge Books / NetGalley who provided a digital copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
After loving the first book in series so much I had really high expectations for this one, which I see more often than not an issue in itself and it's not a good starting point to enjoy a book. I see four possible explanations for my dissapointment: it's possible my taste changed in the last four years, I missed the issues in the first one (I'm willing to admit in all these years I honed my observation skills more than I was aware), this book was by far not as strong as the first in series or my expactations were too high.
Wiley is plain annoying in his paranoia for me. His character distracts me so much from the actual story I considered to abandon the book for good. Luckily after reading two completely different book in between I was able to finish the novel. Until the very end I was not very happy about the amount of his 'page time' in the story as well as his evil character treats.
I love the way the author adds seamlessly into the text flow the meaning of abbreviations. It's done so well it doesn't distract. So far only once the appreviation and its meaning were not close together. Nina's team name (Cyber Action Team) is introduced early on in the story and mentioned twice on the first 21 pages but the abbrevation CAT appears for the first time on page 102.
A bigger issue for me the many plot inconsistencies or uncompleted plot changes. There were some scenes contradicting something that happened in one of the previous three scenes. Some of those distracted me so much I had to go back and check or re-read bigger parts of the story only to see it's still the same and somehow not working.
The general writting style was easy to follow the story and immerse myself into the unfolding events.
I liked the two main characters, loved Tylor but struggled pretty much with Becca and their boss which is the reason I'm no more sure I want to read the next book in series telling us Becca's story; at least I'm not curious enough at this point to take the financial risk to buy the book. Should I see it on sale or have the possibility to borrow the book I'll reconsider, perhaps.
This is the second book in Ms Sleeman’s series Agents Under Fire. This time the story centers around agent Nina Brandt and Navy Seal Quinn Stone. They have a history that didn’t end well, due to Quinn’s dedication to the Seal’s. Quinn’s brother Ty, has gotten into trouble due to hacking the No Fly List and Quinn is desperate enough in trying to help Ty, that he contacts Nina. Unbeknown to both, the troubles are deeper than the hacking. A person from Nina’s past is in the midst of this and is out for revenge. Needless to say, Ms Sleeman has us on the edge of out seats . She not only keeps the mystery and intrigue going at full throttle, but she also brings in the human element. We are dealing with trust, past hurts, fears, self doubt and last but not least love of family and a significant other. All complex feelings. So buckle up and get ready for another great book by Susan Sleeman.
Computer crime. Bad guy Wiley got lots of ink. Nina, Becca and Kait = band of FBI friends. Becca meets Connor in this tale. Read this as a stand-alone. Gritty. Setting: Portland, OR
Some authors write books so engaging, they’re difficult to put down even though you want to story to last. Susan Sleeman is one of those authors and on Feb 29, 2016, readers get to pick up book two in her Agents Under Fire series, Web of Shadows. From the first page, I was drawn into the suspense and mystery as well as the romance.
Nina Brandt’s job as an FBI agent working in the cyber division allows her to make the world safer for everyone. With her two agent friends, Kait and Becca, Nina’s life is good.
When ex-boyfriend and Navy SEAL Quinn Stone shows up at her office with his teenage brother, Nina’s world is suddenly shifted. Ty Stone has hacked the TSA’s No Fly List and the computer he did it on was stolen and now missing. The threat of someone getting their hands on the hack and Nina’s love for Ty pushes her to work with Quinn to keep Ty out of jail.
But someone else is using the computer and the hack to make Nina pay for sending him to prison and he has a calculated plan how to make it as painful as possible.
I’m always a sucker for stories of lost love renewed but when you add to it the jam-packed action of an investigation for not only possible terrorists but also hackers, it gets even better. And Nina and Quinn may have shoved their feelings for each other aside, but put them together and everything is bound to come to the surface.
Nina’s sweet southern upbringing and attention to detail are the perfect contrast to Quinn’s hard-core, macho (almost egotistical but not quite) SEAL mentality and desire to act. Together, they make a perfect team.
Sleeman’s ability to portray the twisted workings of the mind of criminals is both harrowing and intriguing. Getting the villain’s point of view allows readers to see the whole picture while others are piecing it together. If you’re ready for a read full of action, suspense, and police procedure, this is one not to miss.
WEB OF SHADOWS is the second book in Ms. Sleeman's Agents Under Fiire series. These are not Christian books, but they are sweet, clean reads. I liked Nina, I loved her southern roots and persona. Living in the south, I am very familiar with the raising Nina had.
Quinn is definitely a man's man, a hero in every way, putting his country first and family second. Nina broke up with him years ago because she didn't feel important enough to him when he brushed her aside to rush off to save the world. Quinn does have anger issues and control issues which made him the perfect match to muscle in when Nina needed a hero.
The reader knew who the villain was in the book, and they knew why, and they even knew how, but the suspense was in how the agents had to figure it out before the clock ran out and someone else died. I absolutely had to keep reading and read this entire book in one afternoon. At least I won't be up all night!
If you like romantic suspense, Susan Sleeman is one of the best of the best. Don't miss these books or any of her other books.
I was given a free copy from netgalley. All opinions are my own.
I love Susan Sleeman's books! She does know how to do suspense. She completely pulls the reader in with the first paragraph, even the first sentence, and you hang on for dear life until the ride stops! She ratchets up the suspense every few chapters. The writing is taut, and the suspense is high in each of her books.
This one involves the crime of hacking into websites that affect national security. Seriously, I was completely invested in this book, every single paragraph until the ending! Don't miss this, folks.
*I was given a copy of this book. My opinion is my own and honest
Give yourself a Susan Sleeman book, a coke or coffee, a little quiet. You will emerge for air in a couple of hours, thoroughly entertained, totally terrified, and amazed at the writing prowess of Sleeman, who can control your emotions through the power of her pen. Indeed, in this second book of the Agents Under Fire series, Web of Shadows,Ms. Sleeman again has produced a likable couple at odds (Navy Seal Quinn Stone and FBI agent Nina Brandt, his ex-girlfriend). They must work together to keep Quinn's younger brother out of jail, while trying to locate his computer that hacked the TSA's national security DO NOT FLY list.
As in her first book, Web of Deceit, Ms. Sleeman is adept at showing the mind of a deranged killer, this one who possesses a paranoia that drives much of his actions. Reading the book was like watching two chess players (If chess excited me) pit their keen minds against each other. Both protagonists, good and bad, were brilliant. The question is, which one will be able to outwit the other and in both cases, those around them, in order to avoid unthinkable disaster?
Sleeman's novels are always well-written, tightly wrapping tentacles of fear around the reader's heart. You feel the emotions of the characters as if they were your own. Her writing is tight, and no time is spared throwing the reading into the psychotic, shadowy underworld awaiting. As others have mentioned, I quickly thumbed pages to reach the end, only to be disappointed to have the adventure finally over. Don't miss this fantastic romantic suspense by Susan Sleeman!
I was gratefully gifted an advance copy from the author through Netgalley for an honest review, which I have given.
This is the second book in the series An Agent Under Fire. I really enjoy Susan's work and this book is an excellent example, you are going to love it. This book is well written, full of intrigue, and action packed. I was fascinated by her characters. I love how she takes a group of characters and keeps them all involved in the series.
Navy SEAL Quinn Stone comes home to find his younger brother in trouble. Ty has hacked into the No Fly List as a prank to keep his friend from flying out to take his on-line girlfriend to a dance. but someone stole his computer with all the data on how to breach the secure site. Ty would be going to jail unless Quinn could talk his ex into helping them. He had handled the break badly, will she help them?
FBI Agent Nina Brandt agrees to help Quinn the only love of her life. Could she help them without getting hurt herself? As they work together they find that someone is setting up Nina to look like a traitor and a murderer. Can they find this killer before she is killed?
A struggle of two broken hearts forced to trust each other and God to straighten the mess that this teenager started. God has a plan for all of them; a good plan and not for evil. God has a plan for you too, a plan for a hope and a future. Just surrender your heart, give Him control, and watch Him work.
Wiley didn’t care anymore, he just wanted people to pay, especially FBI agent Nina Brandt. Talk of terrorists the last few days, made Nina jumpy she felt like someone was watching her. Even this early in morning. Lt Quinn Stone seven year career as a Seal, and loving it all. He was off kilter since the explosion in Afghanistan. Panic call from his Mom, his seventeen year old brother Ty was going for rebellious award, to come home. He had hacked into TheNoFly list, and that means jail. To top it off his computer is missing with that list still on it. You’re the only one with law enforcement to make this go away, meaning his ex wife Nina. To say this is a gripping plot, so devious, how will they stop it, before Nina and others are trapped in his plans. Great series, a page turner that’s for sure.
Despite an almost innocuous and slow start, the plot very quickly begins to thicken and it is not long at all before this story is Suspense to the Max. To add to the interest there is a chemistry between two of the lead characters that is sizzling on a low burner in the midst of the story. This is a page turner that is hard to put down. In fact, it gets seriously intense. I loved it.
Although this is book 2 in the series, it is a stand alone and the reader isn't left with the sense that there are missing bits of background information. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this book so much that I want to read book 1 as soon as possible.
For some reason I read books one and three first but it didn't spoil this story. I really love these characters and would love to continue solving cases with these FBI agents out of Portland. They not only have physical dangers but mental challenges that tie me into a knot! Nina was threatened by an evil ex-con she'd put away and needed help from friends to keep from being imprisoned herself. A great story that keeps your attention while biting your nails to the end!
This was another great book in The Agents Under Fire series. There was lots of action and suspense, as well as intriguing characters and romance. I’m looking forward to Book 3!
FBI agent Nina Brandt loves her job. She has put her entire life into her career. She has brought many criminals to justice, but she never really excepted one of them to try and get rid of her.
Navy Seal Quinn Stone learns that his little brother has hacked into the TSA’s No-Fly List and will likely be arrested for his crimes. Quinn is used to taken action and getting results, so when he finds out about what his brother has done he will not stand idly by. Quinn will do anything he can to help his little brother, but he didn’t realize that he would have to go to his ex-fiancée for help.
Nina agrees to help Ty even though it means having to face Quinn again. When they find out that Ty’s computer has been stolen, they soon realize that the threat to country should the computer fall into the wrong hands could be devastating. Nina takes Ty’s case to her team at the FBI, and they begin immediately trying to track down the missing computer and to fix the damage that Ty’s hacking has caused.
Wiley Fagan has spent the last two years of his life in prison. He blames Nina for destroying his life because she was the agent that arrested him. While he was in prison, Wiley dreamed of one day getting revenge on everybody that has ever hurt him. When he is released from prison, he puts his plans into motion. Quinn and Nina are doing their best to track down the missing computer, but they keep hitting dead ends. They are both surprised when Nina is ordered off of the case, and they are even more shocked when her fellow agents come to arrest her for being a terrorist. Quinn and Nina take off in order to keep Nina from being arrested. They didn’t think things could get much worse than they already have, but when someone starts trailing them and Nina is accused of murder, they realize that their lives may never be the same again. ************************************************************************************************************************************************************ “Web of Shadows” is book two in the Agents Under Fire series by Susan Sleeman. Like book one in the series, this book is filled with lots of excitement, danger, adventure, and suspense. I have always loved a good mystery, and this book did not disappoint. I was held captive from page one and throughout the entire story. I loved how Nina’s friends never turned away from her and was willing to do whatever they could to help her and protect her. I can’t wait to read the next book in this thrilling series.
I received a complimentary E-book from the author through Net Galley in exchange for my honest review.
Susan Sleeman has the unique ability to show you, the reader, what's going on in the minds and lives of, not just protagonist but also the antagonist.
Wiley Fagan is geocaching; looking for the prize “every computer nerd would love”. That's what the ad said anyway. The claim was unusual as geocaching is nearly always about the hunt; the fun of the hunt. The prize was customarily something nonsensical, amusing and in a fun way, of no real use.
Fagan knows what to expect but this time he wants it to be of value, he needs it to be important. So he is extremely disappointed when he does find it. He decides to keep it and use it for something else until he discovers how important it really is and just what he can do with it. He had been planning on how to get back at an FBI agent. The one who put him away for two years. He now, he was sure, had the perfect way.
Nina Brandt and Quinn Stone are brought together again after a long separation. It wasn't by choice. Quinn's younger brother Tyler was in trouble and Quinn brings him to Nina. Tyler hacked into the TSA's No Fly List and added a name to it. A friend's name and because of this name, it looks as though a terrorist may be planning an attack.
Nina had always cared a great deal for Tyler when she and Quinn were dating. She still cared. So when Quinn brought Tyler to her she knew she would do anything to help. But, she was an FBI agent and bound by the law. She would have to report what Tyler did. Helping him proved more difficult when she realized the computer Tyler used to hack into the No Fly List not only had instructions on how to hack into the list but the computer was now missing.
Quinn is worried for his younger brother and wants to help him. Nina loves Tyler and will do whatever she can to help him through this. Quinn is a Navy SEAL. His job is what came between he and Nina but he knows if anyone can help him, she can so he has put the past aside and brought Tyler to her.
“Web of Shadows” is the second book in the series of Agents Under Fire. Susan Sleeman knows well how to grab your attention from the first sentence to the last. She gives you a clean read Romance and Suspense with all the elements of a terrific Mystery.
I love how Susan Sleeman writes. Her characters are convincing and engaging. You find you're interested in all of them, good and bad. Read each word, you don't want to miss anything and do not plan anything else for the rest of the day. Once you begin “Web of Shadows” you will not put it down, I promise you.
First thoughts: What I like best about a Susan Sleeman novel is the amount of research she puts into the story so the investigations and FBI side of the story is accurate. Her stories always feel so real to me. I love how she uses the dialog between characters to share the technical sides of things in everyday terms for the reader. As always, Web of Shadows is a great blend of romance, danger and page turning suspense.
Plot: As a member of the Cyber Crime Unit of the FBI, Nina Brandt knows a thing or two about computers, so when her ex-boyfriend and Navy SEAL Quinn Stone's brother gets into trouble, Quinn turns to Nina for help. The problem is little brother Ty hacked the No-Fly-List, then had his computer stolen. The computer that contains the steps of how he hacked it. Having that information out there could be a huge terrorist threat, so they must work quickly to find it. And if things weren't complicated enough, Nina has an enemy out there that's determined to ruin her life just as she ruined his. Quinn will have to use all his resources to keep his brother and the woman he's realizing he still loves from going to jail.
Characters: The story is told from the perspectives of Nina, Quinn and the man that's trying to set Nina up for a big fall. I really enjoy how having the bad guy's perspective make for a well rounded story. I always love Sleeman's heroines, as they are tough woman doing a difficult job who aren't afraid to show some weakness, too.
Recommendation: I'd highly recommend this story to those who enjoy clean romantic suspense. While it's a general market story, it's free of any foul language or inappropriate content. It is the second book of the Agents Under Fire series and will stand alone, but you'll get a little preview of Nina and Quinn's relationship in Web of Deceit, so I'd suggest reading both books. I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series!
Once again, Susan, has delivered a fantastic thriller! This is the second book of her series on female FBI agents but you don't have to have read the first one. This one stands alone as does the first one. I love the way I am grabbed into the book from the beginning and can't put it down until I'm finished! The characters are so real and they run the gamut of emotions so you connect with them right away. Another thing I love about Susan's books is that she writes the villain's thoughts and feelings, along with the hero's and heroine's! It's great to get inside that twisted mind and see how it works! The story is so much better that way! Susan does SO much research too and as you read, you can see that! In this book, Nina, is the FBI agent. It's just a normal day for her when out of the blue, her ex-boyfriend shows up with his brother in tow and demands to see her! She doesn't really want to see him as they didn't part on the best of terms and she's been trying to get over him ever since! Why is he demanding to see her? He's a SEAL and his brother is in high school! Little does she know that the reason is going to start a threat to national security! Quinn, her ex, just got off a secret mission, and found out his brother, Ty, did some serious computer hacking that caused a possible threat to national security! He has to go to Nina for help, even though he knows she doesn't want to see him! When it's discovered that the computer Ty used to hack the "No Fly List" of the government was stolen and winds up in the hands of a demented guy Nina put in prison (but is now out), chaos ensues and Nina is framed for the crime.....a game of cat & mouse with deadly consequences begins. You will be so involved in this book that you'll be lucky if you go to bed at night! I, for one, couldn't put this book down! I had to see how it ended as fast as possible! I highly recommend it!
Web of Shadows, the second in the Agents Under Fire series by Susan Sleeman, was terrific. Ms. Sleeman has a way of hitting the ground running with her stories, letting me up for air occasionally, but keeping me in suspense until the last page. She does a wonderful job of subtly weaving the next book’s storyline into the present book as well as keeping me updated about the characters I grew to love from the previous book. She is a writer who knows how to spin a great mystery, yet adding comic relief and romance as well.
I fell in love with both Quinn and Nina, not to mention Ty and even Hamid. Ms. Sleeman paints a very realistic picture of the villains, creating characters who have depth and while I can’t say I actually like them, I do feel sorry for them and what they have been through to bring them to where they are now. I also love how she puts us in the mind of the villains, so that I can actually experience how they feel and why they think they are doing the heinous acts that they are performing. To get into the mind of the villain is an added layer of depth to her books while also seeing the storyline from the heroes perspective.
I love how Ms. Sleeman portrays the relationship Nina and Quinn had previously, the fierce loyalty of her “sisters” and the dysfunctional relationships woven together - from Nina’s family to Ty and Quinn. I felt like I stepped into the heart of Hamid’s mother as well despite the fact she was a secondary character.
This was a wonderful book that kept me reading long past bedtime because I didn’t want to leave Nina or the others. I’m excited to read the last in the series. I can’t wait to find out more about Becca’s history which I think I will be rewarded with in the third book.
I received this book for free from the author in exchange for my honest review.
When Quinn Stone's teenage brother loses his computer after hacking into the No-Fly-List Quinn must go to his ex-girlfriend to enlist her help. Nina Brandt works for the FBI in the cyber crimes division. Nina couldn't handle Quinn's job as a SEAL and when Quinn chose his SEAL family over her their relationship was over. Nina is unable to turn Quinn's request for help away when it involves Quinn's brother. Nina loves Ty and is determined to help him fix the scrape that he has gotten himself into. None of them have counted on who has gotten hold of Ty's computer. Bent on destroying Nina's life, this person will stop at nothing to see her brought down.
Another excellent suspense novel from one of my favorite authors! Susan Sleeman knows how to keep the reader turning the pages quickly while also keeping the reader's pulse hammering while turning those pages! One of the things I enjoy about the Agents Under Fire series is you know who the bad guy is and get to see into his thoughts. You get to see what makes him tick and what motivates the vengeance that he seeks. I also love the strong female characters in the series. In the course of her investigation Nina has to confront a fear she has and she does it remarkably well. I did think she put herself in some unnecessary predicaments in order to prove she was strong, but that added to the suspense of the story. I enjoyed the romance between Quinn and Nina and now am looking forward to reading Nina's co-worker Becca's story. Web of Shadows kept me on the edge of my seat and was the perfect reward for myself after I spent the day cleaning my house!
Wiley has spent the last two years in prison, and he was just released. He is now bent on revenge against FBI agent Nina Brandt, who he feels ruined his life. Wiley has come into possession of a laptop and plans to sell it for parts, until he realizes he can use it for a far more sinister plan: setting up Nina.
Nina is part of a cyber action team and has a feeling she is being watched. She used to date Navy SEAL Quinn Stone. She begrudgingly agrees to help him help his brother Ty, who is accused of hacking the No-Fly List. Quinn hopes Nina’s connections can keep his brother out of jail, prove it was just a stupid prank, and confirm Ty is not working with terrorists.
When Wiley initiates “Operation Payback,” he is quite successful at casting a shadow of suspicion over Nina as he attempts he hijacks her life. Will Quinn be able to save Ty and Nina, or will he lose the two people he loves?
This is another winner from Sleeman! It is the second installment in the “Agents Under Fire” series, but it can be read as a standalone. It is apparent that Sleeman put a lot of time and effort into her research, as this is full of realistic details which add to the suspense and fast pace. It’s scary to think about how easy it can be to cause such havoc in someone else’s life, such as Wiley does to Nina. I also enjoy the fact that there is more suspense than romance, as it adds to the chilling, creepy factor! Highly recommended!
Disclaimer: I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is book two in the Agents Under Fire series. However, it is also a stand alone book. You will get to know most of the characters in the first book, Web of Deceit, plus it is a great read too, so I would suggest you read it first, but it is not necessary.
Susan Sleeman always does a great job at keeping your interest, keeping the mystery and suspense plus all the romance thrown into one great novel. Her characters are well defined and their dialogue is great. I love all the different personality types and how they all add dimension to the story.
FBI agent Nina Brandt is a very dedicated, planned out agent. She has some fears of her own and loves her job. Even though it is with the FBI being an agent dealing with computer issues she is usually in a safe environment. When she is faced with the one man she never expected to see again, Navy SEAL Quinn Stone, will she be able to put her hurt behind her and rely on him again? Will they be able to solve this mystery before it is to late for Nina and others she loves.
Navy SEAL Quinn Stone is an adrenaline junkie. When he is called home to help his little brother, he knows there is only one person he can turn too, yet is it asking to much? Quinn must learn what he truly desires and face some fears he never thought possible.
I was given a copy of this novel from the author for my honest opinion.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
Nina is an FBI agent, her specialty being in the computer area. One day she is contacted by an ex-boyfriend Quinn because his 17 year old brother Ty has managed to hack into the "No Fly Zone" list, a list of potential terrorists the government keeps.
It was malicious on Ty's part, he was upset with an fellow teen over a girl and played a dumb prank.
Being in contact again affects them both. It took Nina quite awhile to get over him and her heart is still sore. They don't know it but someone out for revenge on one of them has luckily stumbled on Ty's laptop and has devised a plan.
This started off slow for me but the idea was very intriguing and possible when you think about the devices we have now. One push of a key and your life can be ruined. What is worse is that they have no clue who would want to do this so while trying to keep everyone safe and dealing with feelings, it is tough. And because of our technological abilities and the mind of a disturbed person being safe is very difficult.
While I am more into the romance and not the mystery, which was pretty intricate, I don't know if I would buy this book. As I said, I felt like it started off slow but definitely improved. If you love the mystery with a little romance, you will love this
Web of Shadows is the second book in the Agents Under Fire series. It is full of drama, suspense, action , with strong female characters. It does have some violence in it but a clean read.
Nina Brandt works with two other female FBI Agents. They are good friends and support each other. Nina ex-boyfriend is Navy SEAL Quinn Stone. They broke up a year ago when he chose to stay a Seal.
Now Quinn finds his younger brother in big trouble and has to go ask Nina for help. Ty has hacked into the Do Not Fly list and has detail list of how he did it on his computer that was then stolen.
Nina is willing to help Ty all she can while keeping the country as safe as she can. Both Quinn and Nina are determined to keep their vows to the Country.
Ex-con has found the computer with the hack. He plans to sell the list and he leaves a trail that has Nina look like the guilty party and she is a traitor.
I liked Quinn and how he wants to protect his younger brother and Nina too. Quinn comes to understand himself better. Nina also grows and is determined to change too.
I did not want to put the book down. I can't wait to see what happens next in the third book.
I was given this ebook to read for free in exchange for giving a honest review of Web of Shadow.
Nina Brandt, an FBI agent, loves her job. She has friends, a beautiful home, and a job she enjoys. But her past is about to hit her in both good and bad ways. When an ex-boyfriend asks for her help, she can't refuse. She still loves his little brother and wants to help. But she's hoping that they'll have very little contact. When a killer lets her know he intends to take her down, Nina decides that maybe having him close is a good thing.
This story started off with a bang and didn't let up. It was fast paced, gritty, and emotional. The characters were well fleshed out and the suspense was edge of your seat. I read the first book in the series, but definitely think this one could be read as a stand-alone. I have enjoyed both books in the series, but I think this one was my favorite. The female character was so authentic. This is a Christian book with some slight elements of faith. But it's more gritty than the typical Christian suspense. There is definitely some violence. It fit perfectly with the plot and the suspense, but readers who can't handle this might want to steer clear. Overall, this was a great story and I can't wait to read the next one in the series. I would definitely recommend it.

I am a huge fan of Susan Sleeman. I was very excited to see the sequel, Web of shadows released. In the first book in the sequel, Web of Deceit, we had a very creepy villain. This villain although not creepy in the same way , is still frightening over what he can do in the cyber-crimes arena. I have been waiting for Quinn’s story and he did not disappoint. We met him when he helped out on the last case and it was enough to know I was going to love their story line. She was also a great character and you understood her fear of having a relationship with him since he had such a dangerous job. The little brother Tyler I was not quite as sympathetic to. I think I'm leaning a little more toward Quinn's reactions than her reactions to Tyler and his antics. I also found it very realistic that as much as Quinn didn't want to be like his dad sometimes you wake up and realize you have some of the same mannerisms. For me one of the best attributes of the series is the absolute loyalty and friendship between the three women. I love the rich, vibrant characters that Susan develops. They are good and strong, be they on the right or wrong side of the law. In fact, I cringed when the villain in this book was named! He's as creepy as ever, with a grudge against FBI Agent Nina Brandt, who sent him to prison. When he inadvertantly runs into her, his crazed plot for revenge begins. It unfortunately involves Nina's ex-love, Navy SEAL Quinn Stone and his family. Nina must get involved and save not only Quinn's younger brother, but her own career.
The suspense begins on the very first page, and doesn't stop until the end. It's certainly a book that you do not want to put down. The action is realistic; the bad guy is BAD and the good guys triumph. As with life, there is tragedy along the way, but Susan handles those incidents well. There is no gore, no violence-for-shock-value scenes in her book. It's a good, stirring, clean read that takes you on a great ride through the risks of national security and just how vulnerable it may be.
Web of Shadows is Susan's second book in her Agents Under Fire series.
Web of Shadows is another fast paced cybercrime suspense in the Agents Under Fire Novel series. If you did not read Web of Deceit yet it will just make you want to run out and get it!
Quinn Stone's brother Tyler gets himself in to big trouble with the Federal Government for hacking into the TSA's No Fly Zone List. Quinn (a Navy Seal) seeks help from his former fiancé Nina Brandt to try to keep his brother out of jail.
Nina is an FBI Agent, she is put in a compromising position as she tries to help Tyler and Quinn. She also has to face some of her biggest fears in the process.

The characters in this book are fantastic! Both Nina Brandt and Quinn Stone have been extremely well developed and their family backgrounds are slowly revealed. This really to make me feel like I was getting to know people I have just met. I really enjoyed seeing how things, from each of their family’s worked to shape who they are and how they dealt with different situations throughout the story.
The fact that we met the bad guy from the beginning and knew what he was trying to accomplish all along added an extra level of excitement for me. The plot was so well presented that I was kept on my toes trying to see how the good guys were going to figure things out.
I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.
I received a free eBook copy of this novel from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.
