I was so excited when I won a giveaway copy of this book here at Goodreads. I've been a crocheter for nearly 25 years and accessory projects are my favorites! I love to make hats, scarves, handbags, jewelry....any accessory! They make perfect gifts, and are easily portable projects I can take nearly anywhere.

There is a nice mix of patterns in Melissa's Leapman's book. Everything from crocheted hats to jewelry. I took my time perusing this book fully before reviewing it. I made 3 projects, and read the instructions for all of the patterns. Very easy instructions, great photographs and fun patterns! My two favorite patterns were the Ashley Headband (I love to wear similar headbands while jogging because they keep my ears warm and hold my earbuds in) and the Phoebe ring. The headband is a quick project but has a nice finished, fashionable look. And, it stays put while I run! The Phoebe ring is made from thread and just has an awesome eclectic fashionable appearance. I've made 3 of them so far -- I love this pattern! And, the friends I gave them to loved it as well!

I definitely recommend this pattern book for crocheters! A nice blend of different projects, and difficulty levels. Beautiful photos and concise directions, too.

As an experienced crocheter, I was worried about the designs in this book as the projects photographed on the cover looked more crafty than designer. Out of the 25 designs, I found three that I was interested in making. The book is well organized. The resources, tips, and techniques in the back of the book are clear and instructive. Projects are well photographed with lots of charts and good written directions.

Wonderful designs

I was surprised at how many of the items that I wanted to make for gifts or myself. I like that the author included some jewelry items, and that she includes in the back of the book How to crochet with both beads and over a button, which i have not come across often in a crochet book. There is a very nice assortment of accessories with fun techniques to build my crochet skills. It works well on Kindle too.

Excellent patterns, especially for staples like wraps, hats, and cowls. My only complaint is that incredibly luxe yarns are used, but Leapman does give affordable, readily available alternatives. I could see this becoming a favorite!

Melissa Leapman's Designer Crochet Accessories book is totally fashion-forward. As someone that's fairly new to crochet, I feel that this book is a flawless offering making it keen guide and useful resource. The accessories featured can be worn for everyday use or for special occasions when you want to express yourself beyond the norm. Patterns that can be found within these pages include hats, cowls, shawls, bags, jewelry, boot toppers, headband, and beyond.

The patterns are quite unique ranging from the simple to the extravagant. Simple known stitches put together in these patterns have created texture, design, and colorwork that has personally invoked an excitement within to whip these up on my hook. Cables and lace which I've only done on knitting needles seem within reach in the art of crochet thanks to Melissa's guides and easy to follow charts!

All instruction in the book is written and charted in US terms. The yarn the pattern was created in is listed but there's also a section that lists several alternatives. I'll mention here that many of the yarns you'll need to order online or pick up from your local yarn store. Only a few projects used or suggested brands you'd commonly find in your local craft retail stores like Lion Brand, Patons, and Red Heart.

The patterns are beautifully photographed making it an easy choice in picking what you'll want to create next. Not included is a project difficulty level guide. This would have been a nice addition but it doesn't deter from the quality of patterns within.

Every technique you'd need to use in creating every project is included. The back of the book has many pages of stitches, symbol breakdown, abbreviation list, finishing tips, tips for reading charts, etc. The charts are generous in size so no need for squinting and straining ones eyes to read it.

Overall, this is well put together crochet book. It provides many levels of difficulty. Promoting growth in a craft is always a glorious thing to embrace. I'm adoring the fact that all the accessories are practical and attainable without much trouble!

Start with this book if you want to learn how to crochet. Easy to follow instructions with some diagrams. The colorful pictures also make it easy to envision. I made the headband as my first project and was very pleased how it turned out. My next project is the scarf to keep my neck warm in winter. The book also makes a wonderful addition to my library.

I was given this book from Quarto Knows for an honest review.
