Come and meet Lola... a very special chicken. Every day, all the chickens on the chicken farm clamor to be chosen by the rooster to sit next to him. Except for one... Lola. She's not like the other chickens, and when the rooster picks her one fine day, she refuses and leaves the farm in search of true love. Share "Lola" with your children and give them an important lesson in being true to themselves and not settling for less than their heart's desire. Written and illustrated by Loufane.
Did not know there was a book available for teaching preschoolers the principle of monogamy! My 4YO kept asking why I was laughing throughout this book.
Every day the rooster crows, "Cock a doodle doo! I may be looking for you!" and then picks one lucky clucker to "sit beside him that day." (Is that what they're calling it these days?!)
Lola is the only hen above the rooster's one-day stands. The other hens make fun of her for it. It all seems very high school. But Lola believes there is someone special for her, "waiting to love just me," and so she decides to take fate into her own hands.
Possibly the most interesting societal commentary about the relationship between the sexes ever to be found in a picture book. I love it! I would think this could teach girls early on to hold out for the real thing, and hopefully it taught my son the emptiness of being a man-whore.
As an added bonus, it's bilingual. Love the bilingual. We learn espanol together.
The art was beautiful, but the story? Not sure Lola made good decisions here! I read it to work on my Spanish and I did get that out of it. Not sure what the message is here.
