Great book that covers a pretty good depth and at a range of skill levels. Basic database stuff is covered lightly including some normal form and why use a database at all, but so is some macro and VBA stuff. Clear examples and useful example files are also made good use of. I think this could be useful for all but the most experienced users. Good resource for your permanent bookshelf as well.
Engaging read, whereby the authors achieved what on a superficial level would seem unachievable, that being the creation of an enjoyable reading experience in which I found myself eager & enthusiastic to invest myself within the program of Access & its many capabilities, to furthermore, utilise as a platform to launch myself wholeheartedly into databasing as a whole.
I enjoyed the content covered in this comprehensive resource. Some basic database knowledge would be beneficial prior to reading but it is not too in-depth that you wouldn’t understand the concepts covered.
A really good beginning to end of learning MS Access. What is essential for those wanting to start is to read the beginning chapters on database fundamentals and designing tables. All else flows from the tables and taking great care into how fields are set up and relationships established will prevent major rework on the system. I have not fully realized the potential of MS Access but the system I established and used for my work was quite a marvel to me and I am glad that this book aided me on my journey.
Final thought, MS Access as the whole package is great for individuals and can work great for small businesses that have on-site servers, allowing employees to work on the database collaboratively (splitting the database and record locking are your friends). Beyond the situations of the individual and small businesses, I recommend that you only use MS Access as the front-end and use more robust systems like Maria DB as your back-end.
