Quirky and disturbing, “Thanksgiving for Werewolves” tells the story of an independent pro wrestler trying to survive against a restaurant full of powerful skin-walkers. This new collection by ML Kennedy (author of The Mosquito Song) also features such stories as “Dinosaurs versus Cyborgs”, “Sally Says. . .”, “Quinquagesima”, "Tried to be the Pied Piper, ended up a Bridge Troll", the award winning flash fiction “I’ll Be Right Back”, and more!
ML Kennedy writes about the spooky and the mundane. He has released a rust-belt travelogue/vampire novella called The Mosquito Song, as well as a short story collection called Thanksgiving for Werewolves and Other Monstrous Tales through Tiny Toe Press. Kennedy has a blog where he writes stories in exactly 100 words. You can find out more about those and his slightly longer stories at wbxylo.weebly.com
I really loved these cooky-scary stories. I want to say that the style feels rather Douglas-Adams-on-Monsters to me, and I hope the author finds that to be the high compliment that I mean it to be. The short stories were my lunch time companions, and were perfect for it. 5 stars and then some!

I don't have much to say about ML Kennedy's slim new book Thanksgiving for Werewolves, because there's not much to say in the first place; it's merely a collection of short horror stories, not thematically connected in any way, and so as such is the pleasant but disposable experience that such collections tend to be. Kennedy as a writer tends to fall heavily on the Joss Whedon side of genre writing -- goofy and funny, laced with pop-culture -- but with each of these stories ending almost immediately after they've begun, there's not much from a critical or analytical standpoint to say about them. Fine for what it is, existing fans of Kennedy will enjoy this as well, although if you're not already a fan, there's not much of a compelling reason to go out of your way to pick it up.
It's like going on the biggest slide in the indoors water-park: exhilarating and fast but not quite scary, and all by design. Kennedy's short stories, includes the eponymous title are riven with sporadic violence and constant wit. These are visual stories that you see happening before your eye. Sometimes there's a bit of moral complexity to round them out but mostly this is the sort of fiction that makes you cackle outloud on the bus and confuse everyone around you.
Thanksgiving for Werewolves and Other Monstrous Tales by ML Kennedy
A fantastic collections of short stories. Well written, captivating delightful stories of monsters and other creatures. Each story had me eagerly anticipating the outcome and the next story. I truly enjoyed this great read.
I liked them all for various reasons, but I would have to say my top three favorites were: Sally Says, Tried to be the pied Piper, ended up a bridge Troll and I'll be right back. I highly recommend Thanksgiving for Werewolves and Other Monstrous Tales to those who love unique (short stories) of werewolves, monsters and such.
