Hank gives us a good, simple overview of spiritual warfare and the Christian's armor. I think the strength of this book is the many cautions against deliverance ministry and other cultic and occultic practices that can creep into evangelical circles when it comes to spiritual warfare. Hank does a great job demonstrating a Christian cannot be possessed by a demon, though he is fair to accurately represent his opponents' point of view.
My main critique with this book is that it was very light on the exposition of Ephesians 6:10-20. The author was a bit more dependent on William Gurnall and less attentive to the text in many of his chapters. I think we would have been served by greater attention to the text and more clarity on those details. Perhaps this is due to the smaller book format, but it would have strengthened the overall read and even the critiques of a more emotional or superstitious take on spiritual warfare.
I am in the middle of the book, and I have read it over a few days, in and out, since it is very deep. I am a Christian, but now I wonder if being a Lutheran is good enough. Reading this book discusses the ways people make their decisions, and the outcomes..is it the devil penetrating our soul or our own bad decisions...I find it is the latter. So I am reading more about things, and Mr. Hanegraaff has discussed this very well. I find the protection of the spirit is invaluable...I have learned this lesson from a former church I was in, not a Lutheran one, but a FourSquare type of church, a fundamental church, a teaching church. I took it all in then, and I am reminded by this author to always obey God and to do the right thing. I love the writing, it is very compelling to me, and means so much. Thank you Mr. H. :)
A tiny book that will compliment your reading of Ephesians 6 and the full armor of God. Hank helps you wrestle with the question, "Can a Christian be possessed by a demon?" He answers this question and offers this advice, "the key to supernatural protection in the invisible war is not found in exorcising demons, but in exercising spiritual disciplines."
This eloquent writer, radio host, has taught me much about what I believe. This is a book I read yearly, and have just explained "God's covering" to a dear friend, thank you Hank.
