Kristi Holl is a best-selling award-winning author of dozens of middle-grade novels. With additional background as an elementary school educator and instructor of writing for children, Kristi's books are on many recommended reading lists and have been nominated for numerous Children's Choice Awards. Kristi has three grown daughters and lives in Texas.
Kristi Holl skillfully weaves two mystery stories, one of a modern day family who might have a connection to famous author, Jane Austen, and one beginning in 1812 with Jane Austen herself. It's obvious that Holl did a lot research to create an authentic trip back in time. The mysteries of each story are not solved until the very end, which brought tears--so touching. I really enjoyed reading it! This is the first book I've read in this series, Annie's Secrets of the Quilt. Thoroughly enjoyable!
"A Dangerous Tide" is the second book in the secret of the quilt series I have read. I enjoy the format of the books, which has an everyday mystery to be solved in the present by Sofia Parker plus a mystery from the past as a result of her research into the old family quilt from her Italian grandmother. In this book, Sofia must try to prove her daughter was not a near hit and run driver while researching a section of the quilt somehow from Jane Austen. The historical story concerned smuggling during war time in 1812. The author provides a rich period detail of 1812 England. In the first book I read an English friend of a famous English author (Charlotte Bronte) married an Italian and moved to Italy, which how a patch from her got in the quilt. This resolution was similar. I hope this isn't the case in all the novels. The current mystery was also interesting but was resolved rather abruptly. I like the fact the mystery does not involve murder but still a serious issue. A fun read.
In this historical fiction series, while 21st century Sophia goes on with her life, she also researches her ancestors who contributed to a family quilt she inherited from her grandmother. In this volume, alternate chapters give details of events currently happening to Sophia and to an ancestor who knew author Jane Austen.
Another fun little read. This one alternated between a mystery with Jane Austen when she was writing Pride and Prejudice and a little mystery with the modern day main character's family. I'll be reading #4 for sure.
This is the first book I've read in this series, and I really enjoyed it. The story goes back and forth between 2 mysteries: a modern-day mystery and a mystery set in the early 1800s. The mysteries are solved at the end of the story.
