Read this book for the second time (But this time as a read aloud with my little brother 🥰)
[When asked for his rating from 1 star to 5 he replied with 10,000 out of 10,000]

Anyone else out there spend their Sunday mornings envisioning that they were the person in some of the Bible stories when they were little? ✋

Before reading this book for the first time I read Bible KidVentures New Testament StoriesBible KidVentures New Testament Stories (which by the way is amazing for getting the 'kid scoop' on Biblical livings), but because this book was a Christmas gift I had no idea that it was a "choose your own" kind of story.

That said, this book is great for young believers or young people in general.
We follow four [boys] through Biblical events and you get to choose which path you take every few pages.

And although I do wish we got to see some female povs like in the first book, I think that every curious Christian kiddo should have the opportunity to read this :)

WARNING: If you come from a family of indecisive people, or are indecisive yourself this book may last longer than previously assumed

Content: Both the deaths of Jesus and Stephen are subjects touched on, and to get the best understanding from this book I would recommend that a parent etc take the time to go through that with them
Age recommendation: 5+

This is one of the better choose-your-own-adventure books I have read. I was amazed by how many different scenarios there were to choose from. Even now I doubt I am truly finished with the book. I appreciated the realism, as many of the choices could lead to death or an unhappy ending. (Several times I had to go back and try different actions just to survive, much less thrive!) It's very much like a literary video game. :) I also appreciated the biblical context and stories that were chosen to use. I felt they were historically accurate and they gave me a new sense of appreciation for those stories, some familiar, some unfamiliar. It is a fantastic tool to use in teaching just because of that!

I give it four stars for two drawbacks;
1. The title is overly cheesy and makes the book sound like it's for a much younger audience. I could see my 15 year old brother REALLY enjoying this book, but probably never picking it up just because the title is demeaning.
2. I realize the POV is in second person, so technically the gender could go either way, however it's made pretty clear that actually all of the POV characters in the four stories....are boys. This is shown in the illustrations and in some of the descriptions/wording throughout. I was very disappointed in this, as I felt the authors could have been more inclusive. Don't we want young women to feel just as much a part of the biblical narrative as young men?

Other than those two things, I really enjoyed this book! Recommended--especially for young readers who can get past the title ;) --but especially if you need some adventure in your literary journeys, as well as some great lessons on humility, honoring God, and the power of choices.
