Honestly, I was not terribly impressed. This was a fairly dated text with annotation that while well written didn't feel as though they added much. It was cheap at least and if you aren't already familiar with the ideas expressed, it might be of some use.
I like Anthony Metivier writing and methods, and this is the third book of have read from him, however understand that this is actually a book from around 1914, with commentary from Anthony. I found the language of the original book very tough to read, and felt much more like a scientific white paper than something for the average person. Anthony's commentary was enjoyable and easy to read as always, but if you are just looking for help and suggestions on improving you memory, I think you way better off purchasing one of Anthony's own books. I think the only reason to purchase this book would be if you are a serious student of memory, and would like to get a historical view of the subject with commentary from one of the current experts in the field.
This book is interesting - to add a basic summary, we remember things that we were fully engrossed in when it happened. Especially things that invoke several senses at once (emotions, smells, etc). The book includes exercises to help practice focusing & paying more attention. It's definitely an interesting read & provides good tips if you're motivated enough to try them out!
