This book was ok. Not nearly as engaging as other Gilbert Morris books I have read in the past. The first half of the book dealt with the trak across the Oregon Trail. Seems like it was a fairly easy trip, except for two tragic losses of life. None of the hardships we read about in true accounts of the journey. Hunger, catastrophic breakdowns, loss of livestock, days of brackish water or no water, disease, storms and prairie fires, dumping precious belongings along the way, were not really a part of this journey. These folks didn't seem to suffer much at all. The main challenges were the boredom, the dirt, and the squabbles between some of the people. Not even a mention of Chimney Rock, the first landmark after their long journey across Nebraska.
The second half of the book told about their settling in for life in Oregon. Again, they arrived, built cabins, cleared land, dealt with a few Indians, and basically had a good life, once all the romantic tensions were settled and everyone ended up with whomever they were supposed to.
