Lt. Colonel Brenna Duggan is a career Air Force officer, and the fact that she is a beautiful woman has never stood in her way. In command of a crack flyer squadron, she is responsible for ruling that the death of an airman in a Panama bar was not in the line of duty, thus depriving the dead airman's widow of her benefits.
But Brenna had doubts about the death, and questions about the handsome, seductive, and cynical Dave Sanderson, the rogue ex-military pilot who seems somehow linked to the airman's death. Brenna is ordered to drop the case, or risk putting her career on the line--and her heart in fearful jeopardy. It is the greatest gamble she has ever taken--both personally and professionally...
After a 23-year AF career, Colonel Merline Lovelace launched a second career as a writer, basing many of her tales on her own experiences in uniform and on her travels all around the globe.
The USA Today best-selling author now has more than 11 million copies of her books in print. Her works have won numerous awards, including the Romance Writers of America's prestigious RITA. Merline is especially proud to have been named the University of Oklahoma's Writer of the Year and the Oklahoma Female Veteran of the Year.
A good read if you like a mystery with romance. I had to talk about what I thought would happen and had to change my ideas now and then! My reviews are mainly written to help me remember the book.
The heroine was compelling and interesting, and it's nice to see some AWACS featured! That said, the hero was an enigma that turned out to be a dud and the mystery was so-so. The clear strength was the portrayal of the heroine's career and the force of her character.
It's more likely 3.5 stars. The story is very long but then the rhythm and suspense gets 5 notches of speed at the last two chapters and the final scene fully strikes. I really like Merline Lovelace female characters being so strong and leading the path.
