Much has changed since the publication of the highly successful Second Edition. In addition to updated coverage of hot-button issues such as funding, charter schools, high-stakes testing, teacher accountability, and multiculturalism, the Third Edition includes a new chapter on social networking, which shows you how to take maximum advantage of Facebook, Twitter, RSS feeds, and more. By showcasing a large selection of real-life examples, this book also demonstrates how to prepare a successful school-community relations plan, read the pulse of your community, communicate effectively, and plan for and deal with crisis situations.
This is an easy read for future and current educators. Many of the strategies are obvious and common sense, but it is amazing to me how many schools do not follow these tenets of building and maintaining community relations with their school stakeholders are not followed. A great reminder for all of us who are educators.
Read for my Ed Leadership masters program. There are some sections that are quite handy for school leaders/principals to have at their fingertips, such as checklists for creating a crisis plan. Other sections of the book seemed like common sense, especially for anyone who has taught or worked in public schools for any period of time.
Read this for a class. I felt that I learn too some from this text. Most of it was obvious, but a good reminder. The first half of the boom was way more information than the last half. Again, it would have been nice to have a post-pandemic update of the book.
