Samantha Bennet was thrilled to be ghostwriting Mark Westland's memoirs, despite some doubts about the aging actor's possible revelations.
And when Blaize Leighton appeared on her doorstep determined to keep his mother's name out of the book, life became difficult.
Blaize tried to woo her with flowers and romance--claiming he loved her. But Samantha couldn't help wondering how much his pursuit of her was for his mother's sake--or her own.
Katherine Arthur was a romance novelist from 1985 to 1992. She was full of life. She described herself as a writer, research associate (she works with her husband, a research professor in experimental psychology), farmer, housewife, proud mother of five and a grandmother to boot. The family was defintely full of overachievers. She is also known as Barbara Erickson.
'Then I think your chief problem is that he believes in love at first sight and you don't, but your emotions are at odds with your logic.'
"Send Me No flowers" is the story of Samantha and Blaize.
Refreshing!
Totally enjoyable read with a super smitten-in love- hero in pursuit and a totally bowled over heroine. One look, and he falls madly in love with her, sending her flowers and doing everything to woo her, but our heroine, who is an investigative reporter remains skeptical and pretty suspicious. There is a surprise reveal in this book, followed by some drama and groveling. Adored the hopeless romantic hero! Also the heroine's two super cute dogs (who are also on the cover)
So, the book starts out when the heroine is trying to give a bath to her dog and being a dog owner I know how they want to run away and shake the water all over you, so when the bell rings she is annoyed and thinking it is a salesman, slams the door on him, what he is even worse.
He is one of those people who saw her on TV with the famous star Mark, whose life story she will be ghost-writing and wants to talk to her about his late father's mention in the book. She turns him away but he is persistent, calling her and she agrees to go on one date, skeptical about his motives and he goes all out with a limo etc but the heroine is someone who believes in giving hence all her volunteer work so that display doesn't go down well with her but the hero has a tendency to not take offense.
He tells her that his family is known for charity and that he may have approached her because his sick mother was worried about his father being featured in the book but that wasn't the reason he asked her out. Despite the heroine's continued refusals he keeps sending her flowers, calling and being utterly romantic, he isn't shy about his feelings either and tells her it was love at first sight for him.
The heroine is a bit more pragmatic and cynical but despite her trying to hold out against him, her heart breaks into glee when she hears for him even if her other side takes over fast. In real life I doubt I will like a pushy hero, but the hero in this one is so delicious.
I liked the heroine's friend Bill to who was besotted with her and even Mark. Also it was so obvious who the hero's mom was and her secret. There was a misunderstanding in the middle on the hero's part and our strong heroine instead of crying her heart out goes and gives it to him, bravo!
Beautiful story and an emotionally mature heroine who's independent and smart enough to be skeptical of love-at-first-sight. Hero's really sweet and I loved how he managed to worm his way into the heroine's heart. A total Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! kinda book which'd appeal to fans of black and white film viewers cuz of the hero's charm...
Oh dear, here I am surrounded with glowing, dewy-eyed, happy sigh reviews and I just wanted to gag for most of this. Clearly a diet of angsty HPs with hard-jawed, menacing Hs has warped me. First of all, the stretch limo and the many bouquets of roses. I couldn't decide whether he was just naff or was a terrifying love-bombing psychopath on phase one of his game plan into a lifetime's gaslighting and coercive control. Turns out he was just naff and all his early declarations of love were heartfelt. I can see why some might like this version of a love story, it just doesn't sit well with my preferences. I like a besotted soft-centre, sure, but only once I've bitten through a hard outer shell 😂
Started this book after seeing the positive reviews and now I wish I hadn't 🤦 The H seems to be unhinged in places, gaslighting the h right from the beginning into believing she loves him back. What's more, the two other male characters around her seem to do the same, taking his side and insisting that she's the one who's in the wrong. The H's mother turns out to be another strange character, lying to him about the h without even meeting her once. The h seems to be the only sensible person in the story and the poor thing is outvoted and gaslit and drowned in flowers, shrubs and trees into believing that she's got her HEA.
