I didn’t expect to spend my annual company party sobbing in a photo booth, wearing nothing but a homemade grass skirt and a pair of coconuts. I also didn’t expect to lose my apartment, my job, and my boyfriend in a rapid series of embarrassing events. Events that, unfortunately, also landed me in a bit of hot water, and left me with a secret that only money can fix.
So when the opportunity arose to enter my book club buddies into a contest for a chance to win $50,000, I took it...I just forgot to tell them about it. And guess what? We won. Which poses a problem, since I didn’t bother to read the fine print.
Now, I need to find a way to convince Alex and Gigi, two gems I’ve never even met outside of a computer screen, to recreate a girls’ trip with me – photos and all – by the end of the week.
What could possibly go wrong?
** ** Girl Tripping is a full-length, standalone chick-lit/romantic comedy novel. It features a strong set of girlfriends, a sweet romantic interest, and some sassy heroines on the adventure of a lifetime.
Note: It is rated PG-13 for sarcasm and some strong language. No graphic gore or sex.
Originally from St. Paul, Minnesota, Gina LaManna has also called Italy and Los Angeles home. After studying numbers and equations in college, she realized multiple choice tests were “just not for her” and began writing books instead. She loves cappuccino foam and whipped cream and would subsist solely on sprinkles if possible. She currently lives in St. Paul with her wonderful husband and family.
Cute, fun, light read. A warm hearted story focusing on friendships and the importance of being genuine. The quote I’m taking away from this story is “Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end”.
The song stuck in my head listening to this book: Road Trippin' by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I recommend the song for any road trip, but I digress.
I picked this title up because I thought it would be perfect for a road trip I was taking with my daughter. Especially since the two us of love road trips and reading. Unfortunately, the narrator ruined it. The accents were overdone and made the characters disagreeable. The worst part though is that she either sounded like she just finished running a mile, was coming up for breath after a dive, or simply spoke everything through a sigh. Yes, our heroine is exasperated through much of the book but not every sentence needs a gasp for air.
When it came to the plot itself there were some holes that weren't ever filled for my liking Restraining order? What kind of expensive surgery can wait that long? "Surprise" train to DC with destination remaining such a mystery?
All of those things can be forgiven though because if you've ever had a fantasy of meeting your Goodreads friends, meeting the folks you follow on Audible, or taking a vacay with your book club, give this book a try (just read it at your destination and not on the way there). This one probably would have made 4 stars if I hadn't listened to it.
Great feel good story! :) A story about what friendship really means. Forgiving, supporting, encouraging... all that good stuff. This is a 'cute' easy read story about three online friends meeting for the first time for a three day adventure in what might have some people running the other direction. Nothing goes as planned (or according to the itinerary,) but the girls (and the three men who happen to be tagging along on this 'girl trip') won't let that stop them from making the most of their time together. You will definitely want to plan a road trip with your girlfriends after reading this! :)
This book is a non-stop giggle! I greatly enjoyed this super surprise of a story! You'll blink at Lena's predicaments that lead to finally meeting her two online book club friends in Minnesota for a contrived vacation together. It just gets more complicated after that, with ridiculous situations and a jolt here and there. Lena is quite a gutsy gal, as are her other two quirky comrades-in-arms in Gigi and Alex. Curl up with your favorite beverage and sit down for a cozy read with a satisfying and warm ending that will leave you grinning! Cheers!
If you're looking for a new author to read, you can't go wrong with Gina LaManna's books and that includes this one. Girl Tripping is SO MUCH fun! It will take you right along on a wild "planned" three day trip with three friends where everything goes wrong. I'm talking disastrous as far as the plans were laid out...in detail. But, after everything, true friendships win over everything. And having a cute guy along helping isn't such a bad thing neither. I laughed, I cried and laughed again. This book is great!
So, I accidentally stumbled onto a Gina LaManna book a bit back due to my kindle unlimited subscription. Just like all her books, I found myself cheering on her characters. She has a knack for bringing characters to life that are endearingly real, if a bit naive. This book was a very enjoyable light read.
I loved the story line, the reality of it. With things not working out perfectly like the usual fairytale books. The trip was good but not perfect enough for the proper presentation that would've matched her story. Good Job keeping it real!! I chose this book because of one of my favorite movies- Girls Trip.
Charming, funny read. I like to read comedies, lighten a other wise sad life. Characters were refreshing, all different personalities. A good mix. Not heavy dark romance. Enjoyable.
I liked this story. It was definitely funny and somewhat relatable. It was cute albeit not too realistic. It was entertaining I just wish some of the characters were more developed. It definitely leaves room for sequels to fill in the other girls back stories.
Super fluff. I may have lost brain cells reading this. I found the main character Lena completely unlikeable. The girl trip was a lot about ... boys. Seemed to defeat the point of the trip of girl bonding.
Gina LaManna proves to be an author with no limits. She’s written witty, rom-com, crime, witchy paranormal, and, for me, now this sweet drama that shows the power of true friends. I recommend any book written by Gina LaManna.
From the first page of this book I immediately wanted to sit down and snuggle in with a cup of tea and let the story take over, this book draws you in by something I think all of us die hard bookworms dream about. . . The dream of one day taking an epic road trip with our book besties. <3
This book perfectly blends Gina's strong female characters with a positive zany kind of vibe that I adored! I mean you just knew that things were not gonna go as planned haha but one thing i knew for sure was its more about the journey than hitting all of the itinerary points. The characters are entirely relatable and each has this patented Gina sparkle to them. Sure they may not be perfect but you feel like you have known these girls forever! Lena is quirky and a little bit of a spaz (but you gotta love her for that haha) Alex is this tough, take no prisoners kind of character that really comes out of her shell during the course of the book and then we have Gigi who honest to goodness is a force of nature!
Ohh my goodness, she is so warm and bubbly and hilarious you can tell she would be the life of the party no matter where she goes. With these three combined it makes for a snaughling romp of girl power!
The cast of secondary characters are probably my favorite from all of Gina's books. I mean you have the girls, then you have Alastair (who is fabulous! I totally want a makeover by him) then along the way we meet up with Sebastian (ex book model turned photographer! Picture like Giles Marini meets Fabio haha) and Benji (Sebastian's assistant - I somehow think of him like a Oliver Hudson type. . . Kinda snarky but has that magnetism)
The different people they meet while on this epic party bus trip like Macy Lou lend quite a bit to the experience (yes, I am saying this book is an experience! Something you need to share with all your besties or relatives) this passage sums up exactly how I feel about this book.
"Oh yeah, you girls are crazy," Alex said, sitting back in her seat. With a wink, she crossed her arms. "You're just the same kinda crazy as I am."
"I like crazy," Gigi said. "More interesting stories to tell."
Life is all about the experience, not that you have done everything right or colored inside the lines. Mistakes and mishaps happen and those are the things you remember and treasure. The little moments, hilarious or heartbreaking. Just experience it! Hang out with your friends and loved ones, do zany stuff, drink some wine or you know what ever is preloaded in Alex's camelbak ;) . . . (I totally need one of those from time to time!)
This story was amazingly inspirational. You know you have the best friends when they will do anything to make you smile and it doesn't know whether you have known them for a day or a lifetime, some people just click, their souls recognize each other and they just know they will be friends forever and in some cases more than friends.
Lena is a sweet if some what neurotic young woman who constantly chooses the wrong guy, those guys take advantage of her sweet nature and Lena becomes even more of a neurotic mess who loves to eat Cheetos in bed...lol But then due to crazy circumstances and an imaginary girls trip turned real she meets Benji who's sweet soul meets Lenas and even though Benji is the opposite of any guy Lena has been with before maybe that's not a bad thing, should she give him a chance or is it to soon after the last Mr Wrong to even consider if Benji could be Mr Right.
So during Lena's post break-up craziness she enters a competition to win $50,000 by writing an essay about a fabulous girls weekend she spent with her online book club girls, the only thing is the whole story is a fake, so when Lena get's a letter telling her they won and now they need to give a presentation at a conference for 30 women under 30 in front of the First Lady, well to say Lena goes even more crazy is an understatement...lol but then her girls step in Gigi the aussie turned california girl who has secrets of her own and Alex a health inspector who loves hiding behind her job and living her life through the books she reads. So the girls decide to take the trip that Lena wrote and boy what a trip that becomes, 3 days full of a party bus, camping in the rain, motor cycle rides in the rain, hot guys with cameras and finally salsa dancing in a dive bar.
This story is such a fun girls trip it's written so well you will laugh you will cry and you will really love the ending :-)
Lena’s life sucks. She’s living in a weird neighbor’s closet after having found out her boyfriend of two years was cheating on her, and the jerk ex won’t let her have her beloved dog, Harry. She’s been transferred at work and her boss is a lecherous dirty old man. When he makes a move, she punches him and quits. If it weren’t for her two online girlfriends, Gigi and Alex, life would be totally dark. Even though she’s never met them in person, she feels closer to them than anyone. Desperately in need of money to get her own place and get her dog back, she enters a contest for the best tale of female friendship. The prize is $50,000 and a presentation at the White House to the first lady and the group that sponsored the contest. Never expecting to win, she fabricates a tale of a fictional road trip taken by her, Gigi, and Alex. You guessed it—she wins!
The rest of the book is about the mad scramble of the three women to meet in Minneapolis and recreate the imaginary road trip in order to get pictures for the presentation. And like most of Lena’s life, not much goes according to plan. The author has created a fun story about friendship and great characters (including some great male ones, one of whom is a very sexy and very nice guy). If you enjoy romantic comedies at the movies, get this book and be prepared to laugh out loud occasionally and smile frequently. And if any movie moguls are reading this review, you need to check this book out! I can just see it on the screen!
GIRL TRIPPING is a fun and sweet book about online friends becoming real life friends. This topic wouldn't have worked back in the day of pen-pals, because letters took so long to go back and forth. Ms LaManna has captured the electronic friendships of today's society and brought us a story that is guaranteed to make you chuckle, laugh, and maybe even cry. It tells of the kind of friendships we all long for no matter what our age. I loved the things the three women "hid" from each other in their on-line relationships, and how the truth prevailed in their very short road trip. I also loved the resulting stereotypes Lena had as a result of the other two not telling certain details about their lives. There were some major misfits in activities planned as a result. But most of all I liked Lena's creativity in her journal application and mad rush to document these activities. From start to finish things didn't work out as I expected-or quite as Lena expected either. One thing however, that I can say for sure, you will love this book if you have ever had a close friend-even without going on a road trip. Ms LaManna writes from the heart. Buy a copy now and have a wonderful book to relax with after the bustle of the holiday. (And even if you aren't cooking Thanksgiving dinner, you deserve a chance to relax!)
My favourite type of book is a romantic comedy, and this one fits the bill brilliantly. Gina LaManna is a great young author that is perfecting her craft with every new novel and this one is my favourite to date.
Lena is a New Yorker who is having a bad month. She breaks up with her boyfriend, looses her job because of said boyfriend and he won't relinquish her puppy, Harry. The only good thing going for her at the moment is a competition she entered, and won, regarding a trip she fabricated about her book buddies. So in order to claim the money, they try to replicate the tip with photos only things never seem to go as planned for poor Lena.
Gina is fast becoming a new one click author for me. She never disappoints. She has a knack of creating characters with depth and adds the right amount of humor. Of course with a touch or more of romance and you have won me over.
The other great part about this book is having my own little book buddy group, I could relate to parts of this story and the places the girls visit on their trip - I felt like I could have been a part of it. And if so, just call me Gigi! Awesome work Miss LaManna - can not wait to see what you have for us next.
Great Book! This is such a great book by Gina LaManna. Lena has the worst luck, she lost her apartment, her job, and her loser boyfriend who ended up keeping her dog. The only thing positive in her life are the two friends she met on her online book club. She knows the only way to get her dog back is to get enough money to pay for the surgery that the dog needs. She finds a contest and actually wins the contest to win $50,000.00. However, there is one problem; she won the contest by making up a road trip that they actually never went on. So now she needs to convince Alex and Gigi to meet and recreate the “road trip”, the only problem is that nothing goes right. If you are looking for a great fun book about friendship then you need to read this book. Once I started reading this book I didn’t want to put down until the end. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
Three days of utter chaos or was it total bliss when Lena learned the true facts of life. Alex and Gigi, 2 of the best girlfriends a person could have, an ex husband and nutty sex craved ex boss, a beloved pet dog needing surgery, a winning story, a road trip and 3 guys - all this helping to make this a LOL, tongue in cheek comedy/romance that just rolls off the pages. And when the 'truths' of this 'lesson' that Lena had to learn began to spill out, they all realized how valuable their friendships and relationships really were. This story was marvelous and well worth the read. I only had a problem with the narration of the audiobook being too 'breathy' with Stephanie Murphy sounding out of breath at the end of almost every sentence and would suggest a serious course of 'Breathing coaching' before attempting further narration jobs. If you love laughter and an easy read story then this is the book for you. Enjoy! This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review.
Desperate to make some quick cash to get her dog back, Lena concocts the perfect girls trip story for a contest. When she wins, she realizes that she has to gather her two friends (who she's not met in person because they're online friends) and try to recreate the trip to get the documentation she needs to give a presentation and claim the prize. Her friends are agreeable, but the trip doesn't come out anywhere near as perfect as she expected.
I read this book for my Readers and Eaters book club. I probably give it a 2.5. The bones of the story -- taking a trip with your good but unmet online friends was interesting to me, but I found the characters to be a bit flat. None of them resonated with me and I did not feel that the dog storyline gave me compassion for the main character. It felt over the top.
I can't say enough great things about Gina LaManna. She is such a fantastic author. Girl Tripping was so funny I had tears coming out of my eyes and my family kept asking me if I was ok. Gigi, Alex, and Lena have a great friendship online, they've never met in person. When Lena enters them in a contest they all agree to meet for a three day girl trip. There are a few surprises along the way, one by the name Benji, who happens to fall for Lena, she thinks he's a pain in the ass. This is a wonderful story of friendship, love, and remembering to smile. A must read for anyone who wants to laugh. Nothing beats having your friends when life gets hard.
Once I picked this book up I couldn't stop reading!
Having read all of Gina LaManna's "Lacey Luzzi" series, I was excited to read a different genre by my new favorite author. I was not disappointed. As, the title states, it was extremely sweet and romantic, but did not follow a cookie cutter format in which the reader could figure everything out without finishing the book. I was literally surprised by twists and turns up until the very last page. I love that this is a book that leaves you feeling good about yourself and smiling the whole way through. I strongly recommend reading "Girl Tripping."
This book was a delight!!! I received this book for review and I wasn't really sure what to expect, I had heard of the author but wasn't familiar with her work. This book totally made me a fan! This was a fun and fast paced romantic comedy that was filled with hijinks and laughs and lots of fun romantic moments. It involves girlfriends, a road trip, and lots of hilarious disasters. I don't really want to say anymore, but I encourage everyone to read it! Also, the free copy of this book in no way affected my review...it was simply superb!!!
This is Gina's first book without a mystery or death, but I loved it!
Lena's life was like a bad country sone... She lost her house, her boyfriend and her dog.She entered her and her online book club into a contest to $50,000 to attempt to fix her problems. Lena and the girls will embark on a Girl Trip of a life time all photo documented.
This was a charming story about friendship and a little about falling in love.
Loved this book! As with Gina's Lacey series I was crying from laughter. Alastair was hysterical with all his musical score additions. This book was one of those where you kept hoping things would turn around and just when everything seems to be at its worst when fate steps in. The book isa testiment to loyalty among friends, something Gina has a gift of describing. As a first example of her RomCom writing abilities, it was a great. Hope to read more of her new genre.
Girl Tripping is a great feel good book. I think everyone can relate on having those moments in our lives that just plain suck but with the strength that good friends give us we are able to persevere. I absolutely love Gina LaManna's books and this one can now be added as another one of my favorites!
