What do you do when you finally found the woman that makes you want more only to find out she doesn't? That's the dilemma Brian has. He's driving behind a work truck when the tire blows out. He pulls off the road behind the truck expecting a stereotypical trucker to get out, but instead it's a woman who knocks him on his a$$ in one look.
Brian finally finds a woman he wants to explore and she cuts him off at the knees. This short novella has Brian trying to ease himself into Katherine's life. Katherine is a strong, independent woman who thinks all men leave. Brian just has to prove her wrong.
This is my first story form M.Q. Barber. I enjoyed her writing and the characters she created. Brian was funny and very sweet with how he handled Katherine. I even liked Katherine, but I didn't like how combative she was with Brian. It did take away from some of my enjoyment of this story. If she wasn't so against seeing Brian as more than a one night stand, I would have enjoyed that Brian had to work a little bit harder for her affections. I just think he had to work too hard. I would have liked to have a bit more of them together once Katherine stopped pushing Brian away but overall, still a good story.

I don't even know what to say about this book.
I love, love MQ Barber's stories and this one just hurt to read. I wanted so much more. I hate even writing a review for it, but in the need to be an honest reviewer, I'm giving it two stars. I couldn't find it in me to like the characters and there are so many references to mechanical workings that I just couldn't invest. Everything being compared to the intricate workings of things the heroine would be fixing up in her shop just made me detach from the story.
I'll be reading more from Barber because I know she is an amazing author, this book just didn't work for me. Pardon me while I go cry.

And she makes him work for it – boy, does she – because Kit has no interest in anything more than the scratching of an itch. No relationship means no broken heart and that’s just the way Kit likes her life.
I found the role reversal in An Accidental Gentleman to be rather entertaining. At 37, Brian is looking to settle down thanks to having a front row seat to his best friend’s happiness. However, finding the right woman has proven nearly impossible because Brian doesn’t want kids, he doesn’t want docile, and he’s afraid that a long-term relationship will mean putting his sexual appetite on a diet. But when the middle-aged truck driver Brian expects to see turns out to be a hot little number in cutoff shorts and a tank top, he’s in instant lust. When said hot little number eschews his attempts to ask her out because she doesn’t date, she only fornicates, Brian curiosity is piqued, and then some. The dance that follows as Brian stumbles over emotional landmines, repeatedly, in his pursuit of Katherine is sensual, frustrating, and occasionally, laugh out loud funny.
I absolutely loved An Accidental Gentleman. I appreciated that Barber chose to trace Kit’s bitterness about and avoidance of relationships back to watching her sister’s marriage crumble and her nieces struggle with not having their father in their lives. This made Kit understandably cautious without having been broken herself, which meant that Brian only had to prove himself trustworthy and was not tasked with healing her broken heart as well. I also liked how the nine-year age difference was only an issue when Kit made assumptions about what she thought Brian was looking for in a relationship, particularly when it came to kids. I found the encounter between Kit and a past lover to be quite interesting because it highlighted that even though she had no reason to be ashamed of her sexual appetite, she could still feel regret over who she had taken to her bed in the past – a regret not for the act, but for the partner. Thankfully, with Brian’s age and military background came perseverance, so he kept trying long after most men would have thrown in the towel on their pursuit of Kit. As entertaining as it was to watch Brian and Kit fall in love, the best part was the gift he leaves for her on her work bench at the end of the book. It not only demonstrated his love and commitment, but an understanding of her work environment and the words she needed to take the next step toward their future. An Accidental Gentleman was an enjoyable addition to the Gentleman series and I’m looking forward to reading whatever Barber writes next.

It made me feel like Katherine was 4 steps ahead and Brian was always lost. She was just too mechanical for a character I would like. Too masculine, maybe? I can't put my finger on it. I just ended up feeling that Brian may be way over his head, and Katherine was too in your face. She didn't show a lot of vulnerability, and it seemed Brian would need that.

I have to first off by saying, I love Ms. Barber's books, I even liked the first book in this series, A Shirtless Gentlemen. I loved seeing Nora & Rob again, I really love those two. I also liked Brian and how he worked at breaking down Kit's walls. I didn't like Kit. I'm not sure exactly what it was about her that I didn't like but I just couldn't connect with her at all. This won't stop me from reading other books as i previously mention I do love this author.

I loved everything about this story! Kit and Brian were both well-developed characters, who knew what they wanted or what they thought they wanted. Both characters were real and drew me into the story. I especially liked how the tables were turned that Kit was the more commitment-phone one and Brian's acceptance of that and commitment to getting her into a relationship.
The dialogue between the characters even the secondary characters was realistic and witty as well.

A sexy, fun pairing…
The dialogue was zippy, innuendo-laden and full of heat and humour. Brian had found a woman who was just looking for one and done, and he, he realized (shocked beyond understanding), was not willing to settle for that. Every conversation, encounter, was one more step closer to breaching her defenses and possibly, possibly, nailing that first date...
I loved this story! Ex-military and all player, Brian was totally smitten with a woman whose barriers were higher than the Great Wall. Kit was not going to give in to the incredible force that was Brian. Kanoodling was fine but emotions, commitment, those were for other people. Even if she might wish, in the deepest places in her heart, that things were different….
This was role-reversal at its best with the classic romance trope put on its ear. There is steam and humour throughout and I loved Nora and Rob being such a part of Kit and Brian’s courtship. I want there to be more ‘Gentleman’!

DNFed at 50%. While I really liked the premise the writing style kind of annoyed me. I'm all for banter, but it was too much and I got nothing out of it. I kept waiting for something to happen and it just bounced too much...add in the fantasies that weren't and very little about the surrounding characters and it just wasn't right for me.

I’ve read several books by this author - this was not one of my favorites...
I enjoyed so many pieces/parts to this story, but it just kept coming up short.
I loved Brian, he just tugged at my heart.
I also loved the epilogue...lots of awwwww moments and closure for the story.

I found this story to be an entertaining and quick read. The dynamics of the plot don’t follow the standard rules of someone needs to be saved or they start out being broken. The author gave us two strong, head strong people who knew what they wanted out of life. The challenge was who is going to change in order to make this relationship work.
Kit lives with her family, which consists of more than just her mom and dad. She has seen the pain and mistakes of her siblings in the love department and has vowed to do one nights only. There is no reason to give her heart away, only to have it returned in pieces or worse yet, being left broken hearted and knocked up. When a blown tire lands her on the side of the road, the funny, charming gentleman named Brian stops to help. Quick fantasies about a passion filled hour with him was all she could afford because he was a good guy and they don’t fit into her world.
Brian had his sex on the run while in the military. Now as he watches his best friend Rob and his new wife Nora settle down in marital bliss and a family on the way, he wants that as well, just not the lawns that need to be mowed. He was taken by Kit the moment she got out of the truck, sending his hormones back to seventh grade status, but he is determined to hunt her repair shop down and prove to her how good he could be for her and to her. He knew she was the one when he realized he talked about her personality and smell before her breasts. Yes this was a sign he had grown up and was ready to settle down.
Kit knows love is a risk but will she be willing to see how the “toast pops up” and is Brian willing to wait around as she figures it out? The banter between the two was comical and had me laughing out loud at times. They had a chemistry that could melt the pages but it was painful at times to watch them struggle to find out if they could make this work.
I would recommend this book for any reader who wants an afternoon escape.

An Accidental Gentleman by M.Q. Barber is the second book in the Gentleman series. Kit Runyon loves to fix mechanical objects. She is on her way home when the truck blows a tire just missing the man in the car behind her. Brian (the man behind her) pulls over to assist her with changing the tire. Brian is instantly attracted to Kit (has a physical response to her beauty). Brian asks Kit out on a date, but Kit states she does not date. She is only interested in one thing and it is not dinner. Brian feels that Kit is the woman that will finally make him want to settle down and sets out to woo her. He wants her to change her mind about dating. Can Brian make Kit change her mind? Is there a happily ever after in their future? You will have to read An Accidental Gentleman to find out?

This is my first book by author M.Q. Barber. I really liked the leading male character Brian. I found that his backstory was one that I enjoyed. He is a true gentleman, he respected the woman, he respected the people around him, he requested forgiveness for his error ways. I just didn’t see what he say in the leading lady.
Kit, Katherine, in the beginning of the book comes off as a big B. I liked that she was strong and independent but it appeared that she was a little to the excess in her strong headedness. I just couldn’t relate to her right away. As the story grew and you understood more about they way she was you empathized but still you were like what made you think that all men where like that. It was perfect when Brian said “ You pigeon hole all guys as deadbeats and losers and say the ‘nice’ ones hide the lies better, but what about your Dad?” He said exactly what I was thinking.
I enjoyed the story and found that in the end the story caught me and I was rooting for them. It just took me a while to really root for Kit. But I think Brian made me come around to liking her because the author truly portrayed his feeling and made them jump off the pages. It’s like when your friend dates someone and you don’t get off on the right foot with them in the first meeting. You always put your friends feelings first, unless the person in question is immoral.

Well, this is definitely another hit for M.Q. Barber! What a fantastic book! I loved the back and forth between Brian and Katherine, and the intense romance and desire simmering just under the surface. It was also great to check back in on Rob and Nora from the previous book, Her Shirtless Gentleman. These characters were absolutely phenomenal, so sincere and raw and real. They really draw you into the story, and make you never want to stop reading. I was hooked right from the start, and I loved every word of this book. The journey the two main characters take together is nothing short of incredible. Such a unique love story! I was sad to see it end, but was overjoyed at the path this book had taken. The book itself has everything you could possibly want. It's enchanting and provocative and compelling and romantic and intriguing and sexy and positively riveting. I would highly recommend this book, and now impatiently await M.Q. Barber's next release.

A sweet read by M.Q. where all the drama comes from the h not trusting the H. Although it got tiresome when the h closed down no matter what the H did to try and say or do the right things.
Since the book was short (less than 150 pages), it didn't take too long. It was refreshing that the only obstacles in the way of romance was all on the h inability to trust.
This is a great "in-between" books read when you aren't really ready to jump into angstville or start up a long series, but still want to spend a few escapist hours.
Absolutly everything written by this author is (for me) a guarentee relaxing and stress free read. A definite "comfort book" author.
If you haven't already checked out her "Neighborly Affections" series, I highly suggest you do. No other MMF bdsm (more bd less sm) is emotionally realistic or "light on the soul" as this hot and sexy series.

This story is the romance of Kit, a woman afraid to fall in love, and Brian, the man already half way there from the moment they meet. Kit's fears have turned her into a hit and quit it kind of girl. When Brian looks at Kit, he sees the woman he wants to spend his life with and he's determined to make her see all the wonderful things he sees in her. Brian is an amazingly patient man and I was rooting for him through the entire book. This is a beautifully written story with a touchingly sweet HEA.

An accidental gentleman is one interesting love story. The writer has her unique style of writing which I had struggle for time to time to understand. But nevertheless I enjoyed the book and the characters. Brian was just like Kit just the one-night stand guy. Until he met her. And he did everything possible to change her too. They are so interesting characters and I loved how writer leaves us in the dark almost till the end to know why is Kit the way she is. I loved the story and how they physical attraction escalates and explodes by the end of the book. The story is funny interesting and I loved how it ends.

this is the second book in the series. the characters are well developed and seem real, the secondary characters seem to bring the story together nicely. there are plenty of hot steamy scenes and they are very intense, which will keep you hooked till the end. the journey that the characters go on throughout the book is fantastically written. this book basically has everything you need in a book, romance, sexy, intriguing and very compelling. i cant wait to read more from this author again in the future.

There could be some that would call this a contemporary romance, but it really is more about their relationship and how sex is treated that I think it makes it more of an erotica. Which is kind of funny because there aren’t all that many sex scenes. But whoo! The stuff that’s there is quite steamy. I really enjoyed reading about Brian and Kit (Katherine), and even seeing Rob and Nora (from book 1) again.

I got this book from net gallery for an honest review.
I struggled to get into this book, and just couldn't connect with the characters. It's a shame because the blurb really got my attention but the book just didn't do it for me and neither did the characters.
