Combining my love of history and genealogy, I weave them together to create historical romance love stories. In the De Clare Chronicles, many of the characters are my ancestors and the part they played in the struggle for the Magna Carta. My first love is the medieval era, but I also write in the 1800 period.

Retired and living in Southern California, Nickii combines her love of history and genealogy to create romantic love stories in historical settings. In the De Clare Chronicles, many of the characters are her ancestors and the part they played in the struggle for the Magna Carta.

Thirty plus years of writers block, including 10 years taking care of her elderly and ill parents, and 7 years of her own health concerns, Nickii found her voice again. She was free to use her time creating the first four books, which flowed as one 900 page manuscript. Splitting it up into four continuous volumes, it became the de Clare Chronicles.
As few as nine manuscripts are in work at any time, most unrelated to the Chronicles. Two books are ready to be published, with another three close to completion. Look for her latest, Glorious Surrender, and Fate By Fire coming soon.

Way too stilted, and so many grammar errors. The basic plot was good, but the execution not so good.

Update 6/15/2018- re-read it. The first review still stands with the writing, but there was something else that really bothered me. Maybe it was just me, but the reason behind the big break (the so-called H had sex with a number of women because he wanted to do "rough sex" and his 15-year-old wife was "too delicate" and "gentile" to be used that way) between the two was only revealed long after the event. I would have liked it better if it had been revealed as it happened. As it was, I had to go back and search for the actual event and never found it. In addition, it may have been that custom back then, but I really, really didn't like that, as if it was OK to use those women that way because they weren't "ladies".

Just my $.02 worth.

Okay but.....

This started out to be a very good story but when Royce committed adultery, it fell rather flat for me. The reason I read romance is to enjoy and celebrate the couple's love and devotion towards each other and cheating no matter what excuse is used for the reasons for it, is still cheating. That alone ruined for me what was starting out to be a very good story. Also, even though I realize women were married off at a very young age during this time period, it still disturbed me that Bethany was only fifteen at the time of her marriage to Royce. A young woman in that time period was forced to mature very quickly. I could have accepted her age being it was something that occurred during that time but the hero cheating on a wife he was beginning to love after the precious moments they had before just ruined the story for me and I had a hard time getting past his betrayal especially since it had nothing to do with anything Bethany did to him. The story centered a lot around Bethany and Royce's troubles after he cheated on her but once they finally got past it, the story picked up again. I would have enjoyed this story much better if Royce would have been true to his marriage as the other events and characters were wonderful and kept me entertained. I dislike giving a book less than four stars but even though Bethany and Royce found their happily ever after in the end, I just couldn't get past what Royce did.

Glorious Surrender

New author for me to add to my collection of favourites. This story has hit all of my criteria's as a five star read. My emotions went from giggling to tears of sorrows. I don't want to give away to much of the story. She was barely fifteen when her home was surrendered to a invading knight and his army. But she had surrendered to the wrong one. Or did she? This story is not for everyone. It has been noted in another's review that there was infidelity by the husband. Granted that was wrong but it probably did happen back then. Who's to know or say? But there was much more to the story than that. There was intrigue and espionage as well as family's finding out old secrets that hurt too many people. It showed growth and forgiveness also. I will be rereading this again.

Being very particular about what historical romance novels I enjoy reading, I was pleasantly surprised by this one. The characters were well developed as were the scenes. I found it quite easy to imagine living in that era. The secondary characters provided the perfect support and the plot never lost its pace, from beginning to end. I loved reading how the heroine grew and matured from a young girl, to wife, and a lady. All in all, it was a romantic and intriguing story that I would recommend to anyone who loves historical romance.

A turbulent historical romance.

Love is never easy. Being in love takes a tremendous amount of trust and work. Personalities and misunderstandings can destroy what was once glorious. Royce and Bethany's love was a rollercoaster filled with treachery, suspense and a love that can overcome it all. A fantastic read.
