I usually greatly enjoy Reeves work, but this book seems to have lost something. The previous ones, have had an element of fairy tale and humor that has kept me immersed. This book was... dry. It wasn't badly written, but somehow it just seemed dry and a bit boring. There was too much catch up and then 'let's cram the rest of the story in', but that doesn't explain the loss of humor and flow that was enjoyable in the other ones. I hope this was just a glitch in the author's story telling.

Another great addition to Cindy's story!

I really appreciate this author and her ability to bring these books alive in your mind. And, her ability to make you want to keep living in the story. However, her editor missed quite a few errors this time. They didn't take away from the story, but caused a few pauses ☺

I like this series a lot. Not so sure about this part of the series though. Same characters that have come to enjoy and a few new ones. This story was not as light and funny as some of the previous but was still a good easy read.

Cute but Full if Errors

I wish there weren’t so many spelling errors. It’s distracting. But what a sweet read. I love the Cindy seller series.

I can't figure out what but something was missing in this book that was in the previous books. That being said, I still think it was a fun book. I can always rely on Ms. Reeves for a fun story.

"How (Not) to Spook a Spectre" is the eighth book in the "Cindy Eller" series by Elizabeth A. Reeves. Cindy and Timothy have been in charge of Faerie for ten years. For a fae that feels like a long weekend. But Cindy and Timothy are half motal. They continue to rule and act the way that is expected of them by fae standards and in the process they've lost sight of themselves. Much of this novel is dedicated to Cindy's emotional state of mind and how she's dealt with losing eight babies due to miscarriages. As a result they decided to stop trying to have a baby. Which psychologically and physically is eating away at Cindy's well being. Part of her problem is that they've kept these pregnancy's a secret from everyone including her family. As a side plot, women seem to be disappearing from all over Faerie and Timothy is left to deal with that. Overall, I understand that Cindy doesn't want to assert herself due to the event in the previous novel, but she comes across as a pushover. After ten years on the throne she's still mentally complaining about the clothing she has to wear. But she doesn't make an effort to voice her dislike of these garments. Secondly, to deal with eight miscarriages in silence is irresponsible and selfish. There is only one person alive that has given birth to a half fae / half mortal child and that is her mother. If I was her mother and found out about the miscarriages, not only would I be disappointed in my daughter for keeping her silence, but I would feel extremely devastated. I also felt like Cindy and Timothy's relationship is fragile and not as strong as she believes it to be. I think Cindy needs some sort of group counseling that could take place outside of Faerie to help her sort through her issues along with keeping her more aware of her state of mind. If she has other people keeping tabs on her she might be able to stop some of the magical manipulations that seem to creep up on her from time to time.

Unusual

These books just get better as they progress. Romance, mystery and cliff hangers oh my! I would definitely recommend this book to my friends.

Wow this one got a little heavy on the emotional stuff. I did kind of like the change. I am starting the next book now.
