Although this is an older publication, it really works to help you with improving your pre-workout routines, which means stretching. I know that when I was younger, I just wanted to “go”, not stretch, but as the years went on, I found that taking the time to loosen up my body helped tremendously. This is a full book showing the different stretches for different ages and for different routines. It certainly guilted me back into a daily process of moving my muscles.

The book begins with the fundamentals of stretching, showing why someone, for example, who does repetitive work each day would need core stretches to prevent injuries. Then there are different chapters on:

Muscle Fibers & Stretching
Understanding Your Body And Its Limits
Six Rules To Stretching
The Basic Stretches & Their Anatomy
The Daily Shower Routine
Dangerous & Harmful Movements
Stretches For Specific Sports
Stretching For Injury Rehabilitation & Pain Syndrome
Stretches For Specific Occupations
Stretches For Household Activities
Stretching For Pregnancy & Delivery
Exercises For The Abdomen & The Lower Back

First of all, I liked the way the chapters are set up, because it’s not just for athletes. Cleaning your tub? There’s a stretch for that. Lifting your child? There’s a stretch for that. Ankle sprain? There’s a stretch for that. Kayaking? There’s a stretch for that. Asthma sufferer? There’s a stretch for that.

Then, there are different models used for the stretches, including older people. This makes it more inclusive and useful. Especially, I found the chapter on dangerous stretches to be VERY helpful, as sometimes we pick up bad routines from younger years and then discover they do more harm than good.

Originally, I had picked this book up at a local giveaway and was going to donate it after reading it, but I am instead adding it to my collection. I also know that because I have to look at it each day on my bookshelf, it will encourage me to get back into a regular routine, especially after sitting in front of a computer all day.
