Dana: I've always been the smart girl, the careful one.
Not anymore. I feel reckless, desperate. I love him, and it's senior year, my last chance with him before I leave for college, so I'm going to take it.
What could go wrong? Oh, my God, I had no idea.
Peter: I've spent years trying to hide how I feel about her. It gets harder every day.
For so long, she was my best friend, the first person who truly believed in me, sometimes the only one.
Do I love her? Of course, I do. Can I let her get even deeper into the hellacious mess my life is?
This was a quick read. I have a secret place in my heart for couples who secretly love each other but torture themselves because they don't want to risk love for their friendship.
The author starts off with an excerpt about bad boys. As women, we secretly love the bad boys but no one wants a bad boy to date their daughter. Bad boys are given a bad reputation and always have prejudices against them. But we love to read about them whether they are become reformed or they just fall in love and Teresa Hill meets that expectation.
I loved Peter. He was your typically bad boy who did not have the best childhood but was saved and has become overprotective of his female friend, Dana. Now Dana got on my nerves. She could be very whimper at times and too emotional over a boy but every now and then she showed some backbone.
This book is a novella by my standards and ends in a cliffhanger. Will definitely read book two. The bad boy has to come on top (fingers crossed).
Oh, why did I give only three stars. When I read books, I look for originality. This is the same story line about bad boys and good girls but it is a good in between book to read. This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.
2.5 Stars Honestly this book was only meh. For me it was way to much High School headgames drama and I was so frustrated that Dana and Peter just couldn't get their shit together and talk. No instead they both try to make eachother jealous and that's basically the whole storyline. I think I would've liked it a lot more if they actually would've really talked at some point. I get that this is only the first part of the story but still. I actually kind of liked the characters when I ignored how stupid they were acting most of the time. Plus the writing was actually pretty good.
I received this book from the New Adult Book Club for an honest review.
It is hard to separate these novels since I read them all back to back. Overall, I give the whole series a 4. I thought I had the whole series since I had books 1-4, but I was wrong. The 1st book is a little overwhelming, and I felt like I walked in on an ongoing novel. Everyone was related with back stories, and it was hard to keep who belonged to whom straight. I almost needed a flow chart. Other than that, the 1st book is so full of exposition, it is hard to understand. Heck, I just finished book 4 and am still confused about the relationship status of the main characters.
I remember the emotional swings in high school. Everything is so much of a big deal. This author is good at describing the fluctuating emotions. All the games played to get noticed. The ongoing relationship of Dana and Peter makes for an interesting book.
A quick read about a boy-girl friendship that's strained by both having more than friend feelings but not acting on them. Book 1 ends on a cliffhanger. It's not a standalone
Wow, I was totally not expecting to be drawn in to this book. I'm very pleseantly surprised by just about everyhthing this author wrote. First I want to address a couple things other reviewers have commented on. Yes, this is a cliffhanger, it clearly states that in the description. If it had not, I would be upset as well. I don't like cliffhangers. However, if it is blatently stated in the beginning on the description and you don't pay attention, that is not the fault of the author or book. Second, while it does state it is a Y/A transition to adult book, it also clearly states the book is for 18+ years old readers. Pay attention people. If you feel this book does not accurately portray teenage behavior then you are sorely out of grasp with today's reality. Even so, it is fiction, but the circumstances and behavior are very much in line with reality of that age group. (Well unless you are in a super conservative community, in which case, it would be in your best interest to still know what goes on in the majority of teen interactions.) Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I was extremely impressed with Ms. Hill's writing and story telling abilities. I really was not expecting much. While I am an avid romance reader, I'm not huge on Y/A, or cliffhangers. So for me to be so excited about this book is very telling about its quality and content. Peter is the male lead and is not your typical teenager. Due to his very violent and unhealthy upbringing, he comes with a lot of baggage. Dana, the female lead, is a complete contrast. She was raised in a wonderful home with a loving family. The juxtiposition of their lives and "friendship" is what creates the angst in this book. Because the author chose to write from both POV's you really understand all the desperation and longing these teenagers experience. I thought the dialogue was just as realistic. As a reader you are really rooting for this couple. I can't wait to read the rest of this series and so far, I highly recommend it!
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review (We <3 YA Books).
This book.... I don't even know where to start... One thing is for sure: I kinda feel cheated. Yeah, because no one mentioned it had a huge, mean cliffhanger in the end. If I knew, I wouldn't have wanted to read it. At least not until the last book was out. I really hate cliffhangers. And this was unnecessary in my opinion. But let's start from the beginning. When I started reading the prequel I really wasn't impressed with the story. It was even kind of boring with that many monologues and too little dialogues. Sure, part of it was necessary to the story and to give us information about the characters, but it still was a little slow. And in book 1 those same things were repeated, even more than once. It got a little repetitive. The story was.... I don't know. Frustrating for sure. But I don't know if I liked it. There were times when I did. And other times I just wanted the misery to end. Peter and Dana were two of the most difficult lead characters in the whole history of books. At some point I even thought I might start to like Peter... but he had to go and ruin everything. Repeatedly. Dana was not the girl I expected her to be. She was childish, immature, naive and delusional. For so many reasons. Actually, Peter too acted a little childish. But mostly he acted like a stupid jerk. Dana on the other hand, showed how immature she was and that it doesn't matter how smart she was at school, she was too inexperienced in so many other things. They kept doing everything to hurt each other and it was so frustrating that I wanted to smack my head with the book (or in this case with my Kindle). Or maybe smack the characters heads with their own damn book. They were so stupid! I can't decide which one of them was worse. They both did really stupid and childish things. But mostly, Dana risked a lot by doing what she knew was wrong and stupid and a really bad idea. She didn't listen to Peter's warnings and she got into trouble. And it could have been so much worse. So.... the story was so-and-so. And the characters made me want to hurl. 3 stars but barely.
I received this book free for my honest review. I would not have read this book had I know it ended in a major cliffhanger with none, I repeat NONE of the problems resolved. The story itself was alright and fairly well written. Dual points of view from best friends who both want more from the other but are unsure how to maintain what they have with each other while going for more of a physical relationship. Normal teenager/coming of age story. I felt the only unrealistic portion was how the "nerdy" girl got so many people involved with the SATs and vocabulary words....honestly it would just never happen. Good read but will not be reading on...I hate cliffhangers and feel that all books in this series probably end the same way.
Received a copy from author for an honest review. Some Spoilers... Full Review at http://wp.me/p7bgOg-4m I read the first book within a day. Dana and Peter are not related, but their families are tied together through marriage. They have become best friends and have been close to one another throughout high school, but things have changed. It is their senior year and Peter has begun to withdraw himself from Dana. She is at a loss as to why. The more she asked him what is going on the further he pulls away. She doesn't know what to do. She finds out that Peter is now dating another girl and this pushes Dana over the edge. She decides she needs to either forget about Peter or get his attention a different way.
Peter is in love with Dana, but he doesn’t feel he is good enough to be with her. He has been pushing her away and distracting himself with other girls. This doesn’t work. While he is "hanging out" more with a girl he saved named Andie, he sees Dana getting closer to one of the biggest jerks on campus. This makes Peter crazy. Dana notices that the more she flirts with Trip, their HS football team’s QB, the more Peter begins paying attention to her again. Making Peter jealous isn't want she would normally do, but she is desperate. Which leaves Dana in a vulnerable position. She is left at a party with Trip we, the readers, are left wondering what happened to Dana and Trip at a party. She calls Peter to come pick her up from the party.
Really loved the buildup in the book. It moved quickly, but still kept the authenticity of the story. For more go to http://wp.me/p7bgOg-4m
Everything to Me (book 1) by Teresa Hill is a great read. Teresa Hill has a talent for keeping readers guessing constantly. That may not be some readers' liking but it still worked out for this read. I thought of the cliffhangers as the ending to an episode of the book. Like shows on Netflix. Everything to Me is reads off more like a new adult novel more so than a YA. I mean yes, there are a lot of YA materials that have stuff inside like drugs, sex, and abuse that go beyond wha the age groups should read. Yet, I felt with both characters being older teens and the other heading off to college that the story fits in better with a new adult category. The growing relationship among two the two friends is one like YA novels present. It has that coming of age vibe and the unknown atmosphere. I liked it. Felt it was an accurate showing of teens in love and growing up. There is a lot of adult content like sex, abuse, and drinking as well as violence. But Teresa Hill has woven it in a realistic yet raw form for all to see. Her characters act like those in real life would. I thought that was great. Readers can easily relate to the main characters. Being friends yet want something more...but don't want to screw up the friendship. That sounds relatable to all readers. The uncertainty of love and where it will lead them was another great theme. Intriguing, addictive, and entertaining. Both characters have flaws that make them human. Three dimensional. Overall, Everything to Me is indeed a fascinating short read.
This is the story of Peter and Dana, two high school students who have been long time friends. There are some familial ties, but they are not biologically related. The main characters have deep seated feelings for each other, but neither will come out and admit to the other what they feel. Peter has some definite trust issues stemming from dead beat parents who have been in jail since before the story started, although we do find out that his mother has been released. Dana is young and a bit unsure of herself. She has feelings for Peter, but she doesn't know how to go about getting the boy. I did liked the book, but it seemed to drag on for a long time. It seemed like an entire school year had passed, but it was only a football season. I kept waiting for something to happen, for it to speed up and get the show on the road. (It did, in the last few pages before the, duh duh duh, cliffhanger!) I wanted to shake Peter and Dana, lock them in a closet and leave them inside until they finally got it together enough to admit their feelings for each other. I waited for him to just grab her and kiss her senseless or for her to just throw herself at him and not let go, but it never happened and it needed to. I want to read the next book. I'm hoping that the pace picks up. I'm sure that it will be yet another cliffhanger since there are 6 books. I want to know what happens to the character, especially after how the book ended. Three and a half stars from me. I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.
*** I received a free copy of this book from the author via We ♥ YA Books!, in exchange for an honest review ***
To be honest, I didn't even realize I'm not reading a complete book until I'm almost done with it.
I just wondered because I'm almost to the end and nothing is really happening, then I'm done and I was like "WTH?" then I read the afterword and found out the continuation will be out on December 1st. OK! Nothing I can do about that.
Anyway, I would like to talk about the characters.
I wanted to like Peter and Dana, I really do but I feel like both of them are just making things worse. Ever since the prequel (Saving Myself For You) til this book, I feel like they're just doing the same things over and over again, they're just going around in circles. Bottomline is, Peter is doing those things to hide his feelings for Dana and in return, Dana is doing those things to kind of make Peter jealous, but in the end, it just backfired.
I just feel so exhausted reading through everything they're doing with themselves. I don't even think I'd want to finish the whole book because I'm afraid they're just going to the same things again. Why can't they just be honest with each other?
In my opinion, this book could have so much potential if the characters are against other people or against any other life factors rather than being against with themselves.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased opinion.
Peter, who is getting ready to turn 18, lives with his sister and brother-in-law because his parents are in and out of jail. Peter’s brother-in-law, Zach, is Dana’s uncle, and Peter and Dana have been close since they met. However, Peter is finding it harder to deny his attraction to Dana, so he is trying to keep his distance. Dana, meanwhile, wants more than friendship with Peter, and since they are in their senior year of high school, feels it is now or never.
All of the game playing by the two main characters made me glad that I am happily married and out of the dating scene! It can be fun to read about, though. Some of the supporting characters felt flat to me, but I’m not sure how much of that was because this was a novella; maybe they will get some depth in the rest of the series. This was a quick and easy read.
Peter and Dana’s families are featured in the McRaes series by this author. Not having read that series, I felt a little lost on the family history from time to time.
This is part 1 of 6 and ends in a cliffhanger, so be sure to have part 2 on hand to start as soon as you finish this one!
I had already read Teresa Hill's "12 Days", as well as the prequel to this very book"Everything to Me". Having been thorougly impressed, I couldn't wait to pick up the real thing!
My opinion? In short, during the fist half of this (free) e-book, absolutely nothing happened. Still the plot, based on starcrossed lovers Dana and Peter, is held together by Hill's impressive and captivating writing. Lying between the two is the fact that Peter believes he isn't good enough for Dana, haviong come from a problematic past and family, and for the past few years being brought up by his sister -- who is also Dana's aunt by marriage.
However, if I said the first half of the book is a tad heavy is teen angst and low on actual stuff happening, I will admit that the last part -- well, let's just say the pace was picked up impressively, the tension rising, and BAM! It ends xD; and here goes my poor self to beg my mom for the next one. Damn you Teresa Hill!
Seriously, I loved this book, keep reading until the end, it gets so much better :)
What a story! An emotional roller coaster ride, Dana and Peter's story is heart-rending. I could feel my teen years flashing before my eyes as this story went on, feeling all the teen angst and fear and emotions and longing that goes on in those years. It's a powerful book that is so wide open with all that young love feels. I definitely want to know what happens in the next book as their story continues. There are moments when you just want to yell at these young people and tell them to wise up, to say what they feel, to stop thinking such crazy thoughts...it's amazing to me, how spot on the author is, when writing about all of the ups and downs in a teenager's life. And it's even more of a ride when the main boy is from a dysfunctional background with alcoholic parents who do jail time. It makes it hard for him to trust what is real and what true love is. Amazing story, and I recommend it, and can't wait to read more by this author.
I enjoyed reading Everything to Me by Teresa Hill. I liked the characters. I liked their chemistry, however I didn't like the He loves me he loves me not, she loves me she loves me not. I understand that Peter and Dana are still in high school but that got a bit annoying at times. I liked some of the secondary characters as well. I really liked Peter's aunt and uncle. They were good people. I love how they were with Peter and Dana. There were a couple of characters that I didn’t like but it’s ok…they are the ones you are meant to hate. Everything to me is not just guy from the wrong side of the tracks meets girl from the right side and they fall in love type of book. There is more to their story. I look forward to reading more books in this series to find out how their story develops. I would recommend Everything to Me to those who enjoy YA fiction but be warned it definitely ends in a cliffhanger
Received from the author for a honest review. I received part 1 & 2 and read both together, which I'm glad I did. Even through there was a cliffhanger at the end of both parts, I feel it needed to be together just for the length alone. We start out with Peter and we learn that he is in love with Dana but he isn't the right one for her. Next we hear from Dana and how she is so in love but doesn't understand why Peter doesn't feel the same... So the story goes. This story takes us through the thought and actions of both of these young adults. I do think that the story is good but gets a little lost in all the thinking that Dana & Peter do. At times I just want to slap them but this is also why you want to keep reading on. I am looking forward to see where this author takes the next part. Looking forward to part 3&4.
I received a free copy from the author by the I love YA books group. First, I have to say that I am very sad that I didn't like this book as much as the prequel. Also, I'd like to apologize to the author who was very nice to me, because I haven't read it in the right circumstances and didn't like it. Anyway, this book follows the story of these two young lovers, Dana and Peter, who can't be together because her father judges without knowing. She is as hung up on him as in the previous book and I didn't feel like anything happened in this one. It's a pity because mostly I didn't enjoy it.There was a gag that was funny, but that's it. Still, I think the prequel is good and deserves to be read. Maybe the rest of the books are better. I think I'll give one of her other books a try.
I'm not a cliffhanger kinda girl but this book sounded so good I thought what the heck .
Received from the author for a honest review. I received part 1 & 2 and read both one after another , which I think needs to be done . Even through there was a cliffhanger at the end of both parts as I said I hate them lol that's why you need part 2 like straight away lol The books are easy read and not too long . We start with Peter........ he is in love with Dana .........but ....... Dana and how she is so in love . You getting the idea lol This story is a journey, times I just wanted to slap them but this is also why you want to keep reading on. There's a few bang your head against the brick wall moments too Looking forward to part 3&4.
A Quick Fast Paced Romance This is the first book in a serial, well there is the prequel, but this is book one, we follow Peter and Dana who have known each other for years, have had feelings for each other for years...in secret! To Peter Dana is forbidden because she is his sister's husband's niece. Dana hatches a plan and then it is totally on! I can't say much more without leaving spoilers but I do recommend this read. As with most serials this book ends in a cliffhanger, but luckily for me I was generously given a copy of both book one and book two for an honest review, so I could jump right into book two. These are short reads as serials tend to be, and leave you wanting more of the story, but is just perfect for grabbing a little alone time with a good book.
Well done, you hooked me and now I have no choice but to read the next book!
Everything to Me was a quick read, that short time span was just enough to draw me into the story and connect me with the characters. I am a fan of the dual perspectives of the characters. I liked knowing what Peter was thinking and how Dana was feeling. At one point I cried reading Dana feelings, that never happens unless I am fully committed to the book! It was a great introduction to the characters and their story. My only negative point is that it was too short, I wanted more! I yelled "Nooo" when I finished reading the last page. Thank you, Teresa Hill for introducing me to these characters. I look forward to reading book #2.
I received an ARC of book 1&2 from the author for an honest review. This is the first book I have read from this author and I really enjoyed it and once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. The way the author wrote the story the story I couldn't help but feel apart of the story and kept dying to see what happens in Peter and Dana's life and how their relationship is gonna turn out. I also am intrigued to read her books on the other relatives in the story. I recommend reading this story but be careful cause their are huge cliffhangers at the end of each. Desperately waiting for the third to come out to find out what has happened.
