He doesn't think the one exists.
And the one mutual connection they have can tear them apart.

Healing from a loss, Grace Brooks wants nothing more than to move on. Dating has proven tiresome and worthless, so she's decided to put her efforts into her work at the salon she owns.
In search for evidence against a crime family, Hunter Reeve stumbles upon a woman who may be the key to solving the case. Except she's unaware of the lurking danger. His growing attraction to the spunky hairdresser complicates the relationship further.
As enemies weasel into Grace's life, Hunter is forced to make a choice between his work and Grace. And the wrong choice could have consequences neither one is ready for.

USA Today Bestselling Author Lacey Silks writes seat-gripping romantic suspense with heat and spice. She’s married to most of her characters and tortures her husband with quirky book roles. Lacey’s two kids and her dog Kygo fill her time with homework questions and sweet licks all over her face (the dog not the kids).

When she’s not writing seat-gripping and heart-throbbing stories, Lacey enjoys camping and skiing with her family. She’s an early bird by nature and drinks coffee instead of water, because that’s how her busy billionaire heroes do it.

Lacey’s flawed and relatable characters fill the pages with laughter, snark and tears. She judges men by the size of their feet, loves sexy lingerie, and can’t live without her “boost juice”: coffee.

Took a chance on a free book because it's a novella that sets up a series. Figured I could safely check out the series and see if it would be something I might like.

I'm on the third (maybe?) page of this and read "I was beginning to feel like a moron, begging Emma for a chance with a girl. It didn't matter that I'd been balls deep in another woman just this morning. It didn't matter that I could pick and choose at a club from the herds of women willing to go down on their knees to suck me off in seconds-simply because I didn't care for any of them, so long as I could empty my sac and relieve the pressure."

Just yuck! This is supposed to be our hero? Gross! The way he thinks it not appealing. I'm glad we get a good look at him early so I can put this down and go on to a book that would be better suited to my tastes. Must rinse out my eyes with bleach first....

ARC received from NetGalley for review

As I was reading this, I thought it was in the middle of the series (my normal way to read books). I was pleasantly surprised this is actually a prequel novel and all the rest of the series is already written.

Caveman and Magic Fingers...what nicknames they have. I loved the names and Hunter & Grace. They were so perfect for each other, sparks flying every where. I'm not sure what to make of her brothers, but I loved her BFF. I loved their dares.

Now I just to have to find time to read the rest of the series.

Lacy Silks has delivered an incredibly hot romance, with danger, suspense and some mystery in this series prequil.

Emma Cross's best freind Gracie has come to the attaention of Emma's co-worker Hunter. Hunter Reeve,a former navy seal and an agent working for Cross Investigations, not only does she turn out to be a person of intrest in the current case Hunter is working.Hunter is incredibly attracted to Grace, simply just seeing her across has him picturing all the things he would like to di to her and with her, but first he needs an introduction.

Grace's estranged family is involved in some very questionable business and Hunter feels she may need protection from them and what they are involved ;in so before leaving for an undercover op he secures a promise from Emma of an introduction.

Three months later Hunter returns but,she is not the man he was, Emma takes him to Grace's salon to be cleaned up before heading of to a mental institution. At first glance Grace sees a caveman, long hair , long beard, dirty and in dirty clothes and figures she should start him with a shower, which leads to him totally naked in the shower and her washing his hair fully clothed.
From, this point on Hunter comes out of his silent stupor and these two can not seem to keep their hands of of each other.(bring your fan, you are going to need it!)

Hunter is all in but as much as Grace is into Hunter she tries to keep her expectations low and who can blame her, she is recovering from a pretty bad loss and to add to that her estranged family is trying to pull her into their dirty business deals. Thank goodness for Hunter, Gracie's Safety is paramount.

As the plot line is revealed, you learn more and more about gracies crazy family Dynamic and how she became close to Emma and her family.

Great read, do not miss out!

What a steamy romance novel! This book had me hooked from beginning to end. I loved the plot and the originality of it. I could not help but fall in love with Hunter.

The book starts with a prologue where Hunter is with Emma, Grace's best friend. He sees Grace and immediately he becomes infatuated with her. What follows is an extremely hot and thrilling story. Hunter and Grace have an intense spark and the chemistry is there immediately, even when Hunter shows up at Grace's salon looking like a caveman.

Grace has been estranged from her powerful family for years. Hunter is an undercover agent and has had his eyes set on taking down her family for years. Both have serious baggage that could hinder their relationship. There are definitely a few things that does not make sense such as time references but it does not really affect the story that much.

I would highly recommend this book. Lacey Silks is slowly but surely becoming one of my favourite authors.

I'm not going to rate this book. Suffice it to say I could not get into it. The H seemed like a total douchebag and the h wasn't any better. I didn't like it at all, and could not read another word.

One word, YUM!!

If a caveman was brought into your beauty salon would you be willing to clean him up? Well, that is what Grace is instructed to do along with driving him to a mental hospital....say what?!?! After getting to know Hunter (the caveman) you might wish you were Grace.

Hunter and Grace have so much chemistry they can't help dropping trou wherever they are: restaurant, dressing room, elevator, hot-tub, I can go on and on but I think you get the picture. Their story has a serious undertone to it but there are parts that had me laughing , which I think is a perfect mix.

This is a Spinoff from the Layers Trilogy but you do not have to read them in order to follow what is going on in this series but it does make it better if you do.

This book can also be found in Red Hot Alphas 11 Novels of Sexy, Bad Boy, Alpha Males.

I absolutely love this series and cannot get enough of the Cross siblings. Crossed is the prequel to the series and shares the story of how Grace and Hunter fall in love. In Layers Crossed we read about Emma meeting a cowboy and finding love in an unlikely place. We were also introduced to Grace, Emma’s best friend and accomplice in all things mischief-making. And of course we cannot forget about the very hot and protective Cross brother’s, Tristan and Julian.

Grace Brooks has been estranged from her family for a decade and doesn’t have any plans for a reunion, but they seem to take matters into their own hands when the “family” business gets into trouble with the law. Grace has her own life, her own successful beauty salon and the only thing missing right now is “the one” to share it with.

Three years ago, both Grace and Emma experience soul shattering, heart-aching loss and Grace has struggled to find a man to measure up since. Every time she meets a man with potential they always fall short, but when Hunter is pushed into her life by Emma, well their chemistry and attraction cannot be denied.
Hunter Reeve has endured a lot already in his short life. He works with Emma and her brothers at Cross Enterprises and has been investigating the Wagner’s for years. They are a slippery group and Hunter heads off undercover to find more dirt.

Emma turns up on Grace’s salon doorstep with a caveman and asks Grace to work her magic. The man looked like a homeless person with a long beard and hair and a horrible stench. Grace sneaks the caveman through the back entrance and into a vacant shower room. The man doesn’t respond to Grace in any way, in the end Grace has to strip him and couldn’t believe such a beautiful man was hidden underneath the layers of grime and clothes. Grace has to wash his hair and that’s when he actually moves. It was Grace’s touch washing his hair that’s brought him back to reality.

Grace leaves him to other staff and heads out the front. She is stuck thinking of this stranger until someone is yelling and glass is smashing. Thieves are demanding Grace’s safe location. He grabs her when the sirens sound and drags her toward the back door. There is something familiar about one of them, but with no time to ponder, she does as she’s told. The next second, BANG CRASH, his gun is knocked away and the thief is gone. Someone heavy is lying on Grace and she is stunned by his model looks and muscles.

“I’m Hunter, I’m your Caveman Grace.”

This was the beginning of their time together. Hunter took it upon himself to protect Grace and work on who the band of idiots were. The more time they spend together the stronger their feelings become and Grace admits that she has never felt this connection with anyone before.

Will they find out who the thieves were? Will Grace let this relationship bloom instead of doom? Can Hunter open himself up to Grace and share what happened to make him zone out?

Crossed was action packed, exciting, intriguing, lusty, and steamy and a whole lot of fun. It was another suspense driven read by Ms Silks and I want more. Hunter is such a sweetheart and I hope he appears in the books to come. Ms Lacey’s style was superb and I highly recommend this series to all new adult romance readers.

Full disclosure, I didn’t read the series, just this prequel. I’m wondering if I would have loved this book more if I’ve already read the Crossed series. I have a feeling that the answer would probably be ‘yes’. My lack of connection with the characters most likely had to do with the fact that I didn’t know them – and you likely get to know them in the full series. SO, take this review with that in mind.

HOWEVER, the suspense and mystery engrained in this book was a lot of fun and a large part of what makes this a pretty good read. Grace and Hunter’s story moved at lightening speed. Hunter’s a caveman looking, homeless smelling man who shows up in Grace’s salon after being undercover for three months doing god knows what. He doesn’t speak and barely moves, so Grace has to strip him down in the shower. Thus, they’ve met for four seconds and she’s already staring at his cock.

This really isn’t something I usually complain about – I mean, I fucking love insta-lust. But somehow it just didn’t work for me here and it felt a little forced. I just didn’t feel the connection between the characters right away the same way that the words on the page said that the characters felt.

However, Grace and Hunter ARE pretty hot together. There’s a substantial amount of delicious fuckery if that’s what you’re in the mood for, and let’s not forget about throwing some kidnapping into the mix. I really really enjoyed the concept for this book, but I had to suspend my belief while reading it. Grace is on her search for the one after her former flame died saving her life, Hunter lies about silly things – like his job title – that turn out to be inconsequential, and Grace’s family drama seems like it should really not be a big fucking deal.

The ending may have been what threw me for a loop. I was wondering why Grace didn’t offer to do that in the beginning – I mean, all of the trouble would have been avoided. It seemed sort of an obvious, anticlimactic ending when there was so much drama surrounding Grace, her family & Hunter.

Overall, a good solid three stars. It kept my attention and had some great fun scenes.

She is looking for the one.
He never thought the one existed.
But the one thing that connects them can also tear them apart.

Healing from a loss, Grace Brooks wants nothing more than to move on and has given every man she dated a chance—only to find they’re not worth her time.

Tying up loose ends of a case, Hunter Reeve stumbles upon a woman who may be the key to putting away a criminal family behind bars.

As danger lurks, weaseling itself into Grace’s life, Hunter is forced to make a choice between his work and Grace. And the wrong choice could have consequences neither one is ready for.

I was pretty excited about this book when reading the synopsis...unfortunately, it just didn't work for me. It was a well written book and the premise was intriguing but I found myself skimming through most of it, as I was ready for it to end. The sex scenes were hot and steamy which is what you'd expect from an erotic romance book, but it just didn't work for me. I didn't connect with the characters especically the female lead. I'm quite disappointed since the very beginning of the book was pretty exciting. It drew me in from the start it just lost me somewhere in the middle. Then the story ended a tad bit anticlimactically....yes I know it's not a word, but I'm going with it, you get the gist. Although this story didn't work for me, I will still read another book by this author....so not a complete lost cause!

Crossed
Crossed, Book .5

I Picked Up This Book Because: Random iBooks selection

The Characters:

Grace Brooks:
Hunter Reeve:

The Story:

I hate to quit but I can’t. The storytelling is so choppy I constantly find myself rereading because I feel like I missed something. Hunter low key annoyed me and Grace is full of secrets.. I think.

The Random Thoughts:

Not sure if I should have started with book 1 and this book is meant as a prequel to be read after the others but the characters had no background, no world building and I appreciate a quick attraction but girl don't jump into bed with a stranger, especially after a traumatic event like being held at gunpoint.

This story made no sense to me! Why would a girl who is hiding from her rich but corrupt family be best friends with a PI? and then to have that PI just hand out information on who she really is to another PI because he thinks she is 'hot' - stupid. wouldn't happen. Girl I would be pissed at my friend.

One of the few books that have ever made me feel bad for reading it and also bad for the characters that they don't have a lick of smarts or personality between them.
Again - maybe I should have started at book 1 rather than the prequel, but I wouldn't entertain the rest of the series after starting with Crossed.

I didn’t really like this book. The idea behind the story was good but the execution wasn’t.
It started off well enough but not even half way through it lost me.
The worst part was when Hunter chocked the shit out of Grace and Grace was just like oh it’s fine it was just nightmare and they barely talked about it. Chocking someone is a big deal, I just think that the whole PTSD sub-plot should have been developed more. If you’re not going to even talk about it for more than a chapter why bring it up in the first place

A contemporary romantic suspense story about a young woman and a man who is trying to save her from her not-so-wonderful criminal family. During this process, they fall in love, but will it last?

This is a prequel to the series about the men and women of Cross Industries.

A few What-the-tuck trends seen throughout the novel, as well as a few spicy scenes between Hunter and Grace, who is telling her story.

I am ready.....I am hooked......
Sometimes its hard to read a book that has it all, but this is it. I don't know how to write a review, but I know the feeling of excitement! I liked the intrigue, combined with protective love. A wonderful thriller and a series. I am excited to follow the characters.

Interesting characters but two things made it hard to like this book. 1) constant sex. Every chapter, every meeting, it got to be uninteresting and redundant. 2) the ending was lack luster. Lot's of build up to a bland ending - which I think is an entry into the other books since this is a prequel but sadly, the ending doesn't make me want to read any of the other books in the series.

I love a good detective story and a little romance is fantastic . Overt sexual encounters I find demeaning. They may happen but I don't need a moan by moan description. The story would have been just as good without them.
