Sophie is small, but very determined. She's crazy about animals and wants to be a farmer when she grows up. She'd love to have a pony, but doesn't think she'll ever be that lucky. She does meet a nice one called Bumblebee, though, while on holiday at the seaside, where she also makes friends with a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig Read all about Sophie, her family and friends - animal and human - in these three galloping stories: Sophie in the Saddle, Sophie Is Seven and Sophie's Lucky.
Dick King-Smith was born and raised in Gloucestershire, England, surrounded by pet animals. After twenty years as a farmer, he turned to teaching and then to writing children's books.
Dick writes mostly about animals: farmyard fantasy, as he likes to call it, often about pigs, his special favorites. He enjoys writing for children, meeting the children who read his books, and knowing that they get enjoyment from what he does.
Among his well-loved books is Babe, The Gallant Pig, which was recently made into a major motion picture, and was nominated for an Academy Award.
Dick lived with his wife in a small 17th-century cottage, about three miles from the house where he was born.
This is another book from my childhood that I kept. You can tell how much I loved to read it because the spine is taped together. I NEVER put this book down, it was easy to read with big writing on the page and the stories were so enticing that it made me wish I was the Sophie in the book. I loved that there were continual illustrations throughout the book which helped to visualise the story. I will never part ways with this book.
bruh i read this book at least 100 times when i was younger. it was literally my go-to book when i had nothing else better to read, when i was bored, or when little me craved the story. probably the thickest book i owned when i was that smol kiddo :D
This book is outstanding!😜 the only problem is that you can sometimes guess what’s coming next and be right. But each and every word is good picked out!🥰
I absolutely love these books. Sophie is by far the best character I have ever found in any story, and I have never found anything that I have enjoyed reading more than these books. If these books are not already on your shelf, buy them NOW.
I'd love to be able to say great for all ages, but it's probably more of a 6-8 years for a good readers. (+)
