Haven HATES Mondays. She loathes them. Especially this Monday. This is the Monday that'll change her life, but will it be for better or worse? At first glance, it seems to be for the worst. Losing her job, boyfriend and supposed friend is not how Haven envisaged her week starting. Temporarily living with her best friend Spencer is not how she envisaged spending her week, and a new job is not what she expected to look forward to the following week. Things start to look up for Haven. Despite the nasty delivery, her life is taking a new turn that she embraces and loves. She finds a new job and a place to live that are perfect for her. Everything seems to be going well but little things creep up and destroy the one thing she cherished the most and can't live without. It was a shaky start but her professional life is going in the direction she's always wanted. If only she could say the same about her love life. After a failed long-term relationship, a blind date who is just like any guy you'd meet in a bar and a manwhore of a neighbour, she's left thinking that it's time to open the crazy cat lady starter box. All she wants is to be content with her life, but she's not. She's missing the one thing she's dreamed of since she was a little girl. To be loved. But what if it was in front of her the entire time? Will she be able to mend the broken bridges? Will she realise it was Love at First Glance?
She started writing in 2005 but never published anything until 2015 when she decided to bite the bullet and just do it. She's grateful for all the amazing people she got to meet through her passion for writing.
The 'Last Hangman MC Series' is the one that made people find out about her but since then she released a contemporary series - Love At Firsts - and a dark gory thriller trilogy - The Reaper Trilogy - which people have compared to Stephen King on crack — thing she's rather proud of.
Some of her favourite things include snowy days, live music, horror movies, ghost stories, travelling and of course, a cosy day spent with a good book.
Feel free to keep in touch with Muriel, she loves to hear from her readers.
This was a cute story of best friends to lovers. Not your typical cookie cutter storyline though, these two practically took the entire book to realize they were perfect for each other. Spencer was the hot, sexy manwhore and best friend of Haven Lee. Haven is a humorous, sexy, curvaceous woman who loves Spencer like a brother.
They have known each other since childhood and been through thick and thin. Always have given one another shit, made snide comments, harmless flirting, but never ever crossed the line.
It was so funny because even perfect strangers that came into their lives knew they were in love with each other and they wouldn't admit it to each other. Watching them develop these feelings of more than friendship and trying to cope with them was captured beautifully. I felt like I was right there with them. Not knowing how it would effect their friendship or if their feelings would be reciprocated was a constant battle. All based on not wanting to ruin the perfect friendship they created, made it so real. I thoroughly enjoyed this story! The ups, down and the finale. 4BadAssDirtyNippleDickStars
What a wonderfully fun, easy to read, enjoyable story! I absolutely devoured this from start to finish, enjoying all of the characters and the entire storyline.
Have and Spencer are best friends and have been for almost their entire lives. They've been there for one another in the most difficult of times, and are each the one person the other can totally rely on.
When Haven's life I thrown a rubbish hand one Monday and she not only loses her boyfriend and bast friend, she also loses her job too. Mondays are officially rubbish in Haven's world!
I loved how this story line panned out, and although this is a very slow burn romance, there is still plenty of action and entertainment to keep the reader interested and the pages turning!
Overall the story is a little bit different and fresh! And although there are some predictable aspects, there is definitely an original twist to the overall feel of the book.
There's loads of humour, plenty of angst, perfect banter between the characters (secondary characters included) and some wonderful romance!
A brilliant, easy to read, friends to Lovers story! I will definitely check out more from this author!
I absolutely loved reading this sweet and hilarious book by Muriel. Even from the very beginning, I couldn’t stop laughing at some of things that Haven said or did. She’s quite the character for sure. Honestly throughout the entire book, I found myself either laughing or wishing something would happen. I won’t say what, because you have to find out yourself. Haven is hilarious. I’m sorry she really is and I loved reading about her and some of the things she would do or say, it really had me cracking up. I really liked she’s independent too and she’s stubborn. She’s driven at her job and she has one best friend she always goes too. Spencer, I loved him instantly. There’s just something about him that I wanted to know more about. He’s interesting, but at the same time, he’s so sweet. I loved the fact that Spencer would do anything and everything for Haven. They had known each other for a very long time and he’s Haven’s protector. I will admit, you have to be very patient with this one. Things do not happen fast and it does take a bit to get there. But, I think it was worth the wait. You get more of the relationship between Haven and Spencer and yes, there will be times you want to smack both of them around a bit. At one time, I was yelling at my kindle screaming WHAT! I was kind of thrown for a loop at one point but at the same time, I loved it. It wasn’t boring or a sweet and sappy read. I do recommend checking this one out. This was my first by Muriel, and I’m very interesting in seeing more from her.
What a fresh read really enjoyed it absolutely loved Spencer soon as the story came a light you could feel the love that was going down with Haven and Spencer everyone was just waiting for it to happen but them two but they get there in the end.
A sweet friends to lovers romance, that starts off with us meeting Haven on quite possibly one of the worst days of her life... Mondays suck big hairy balls ! Haha I can relate to that - who doesn't hate Mondays but when you lose your job and then walk in on your cheating boyfriend it makes it even worse ! who do you turn to? well your best friend of course... doesn't hurt that he's sexy as hell !! But Haven doesn't see him that way, having been together through thick and thin and basically having become each other's family when their own families turned their backs on them when Spencer confessed his confusion over his sexuality. Throw in a hunky neighbour in the form of manwhore Valentine and we start to see Spencer's jealousy creep in. Will these two realise what seems obvious to everyone else around them? We watch them slowly start to admit to themselves but can they admit it to each other and could it even work out? there were times I wanted to bang their heads together and times I wanted to slap their friends for being so secretive and not telling Haven how it is lol... but there were lots of sweet friendship moments to and some funny moments. There were also some pretty intense moments. Overall it was an easy enjoyable read. Read as part of Quirky Blind Date with a book for an honest review
Love At First Glance by Muriel Garcia is a wonderful friends to lovers story. Haven and Spencer have been friends since they were in diapers and when you have that kind of friendship with someone...you know...that one person you can completely be yourself with, why would you want to mess that up with becoming lovers? If it doesn't work out you lose that person forever.
Add to that, the fact that Haven really doesn't have a great view of herself. She criticizes herself so harshly and Spencer is by all accounts a God. You have a recipe for disaster in the making if you let yourself fall. Spencer is also bi-sexual which makes it just that much harder for Haven to figure out.
These two go through alot together....from families who throw them on their ears because of who they are or who they associate with...to relationships with others. But through all that they are always there for each other. Watching the two of them realize how made for each other they really are is a wonderful journey.
Since the time I wanted to read this book here is done :-) I love the book cover where you see Haven kissing a young man, it makes you want to be kissed like that by a girl.
You can see the pretty Haven who doesn't like Mondays, especially that Monday that will change her life forever. Good or bad? For now, it seems to be for bad. She loses that whole day, her job, her boyfriend. She's going to have to live temporarily with her friend Spencer. The next week she finds a new job and a new place to live. All she wants is to be happy in life, but after her failed love affair, will she be happy one day, will she be able to repair the broken bridges?
A book read in one go, so much so that I hung on to the story, so moving in certain passages, captivating, addictive, full of suspense and twists and turns, with characters that are very endearing to the character of Haven in whom I put myself in her skin right from the beginning of the book. Can't wait to read the book two.
This is a one time read for me. It was ok, cute but nothing extremely special. There was some funny parts, some weird drama and random secrets that didn't really amount to something I would call a "secret."
This is a story of two friends who have no clue they are in love with each other, yet everyone in the universe sees it but them.
The Valentine stuff was overdramatic and ridiculous. It made Spencer seem like an Alpha Jerk.
Also, there are SEVERAL grammatical errors in this book. I can usually overlook a couple, but there was too much in this one for me.
Well....I honestly didn't think I was going to like this story. The first few chapters didn't seem to be going anywhere and I considered not finishing it. That would have been a huge mistake!! I really didn't expect the story to go in the direction it went, which I actually loved. I figured out pretty quickly what Haven was feeling, but I was totally thrown off with Spencer. And for a while I kept waiting for Haven to fall for her neighbor when she finally met him, but thank goodness that didn't happen!! This story was sweet, surprising and full of humor and angst. I totally loved it!
I received a free copy of this book through Quirky Blind Date with a Book and am writing an honest review.
This author is new to me so I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. It took me a little bit to get into this book but once I did, I loved it. This book had me laughing out loud and falling in love with the characters. Haven and Spencer are characters that I wish were real just so I could be friends with them! This is a friends to lovers type of story but it doesn't recycle the same old storyline. I will be checking out more books by this author!
I did like this story. Each of the characters was easy going and down to earth, but they complimented each other. This is a friends to lover type book and I felt the author did. An awesome job at how their friendship progressed naturally. I loved Haven and Spencer together. They are both spunky but they fit perfect together.
There were some things I didn't like. It felt like the second half of the story switched gears and took away from the initial feeling of a rom-com friends to lover story. I would read more from this author in the future. 3/3.5 stars #2OCCJD
This book was so sweet! I spent a large majority of the book grinning like a fool! Haven Lee hates Mondays. Her life seems to fall apart completely.. on a Monday of all days. Spencer, her best friend since diapers, comes in to make it all better. The book follows their friendship, Havens ups and downs and awkwardness, and Spencers sexiness. If you're looking for a sweet, swoony read, this us for you!
It took me a long time to get into this book, and I think it's because I wasn't sure who the love interest was supposed to be so it made it hard for me to cheer on the characters. I think the title was a bit of a misnomer for the situation in the book, too, so that didn't help me. The heroine started out as a poor woe-is-me chick and seemed to need someone to come save her until about halfway thru the book, when she finally got some confidence and I started liking her.
I really enjoyed this book, though it turned into something that caught me completely by surprise. The writing was good. The characters were both easy to love and sometimes I wanted to choke them.
I'm happy these two knuckleheads took their head out of their behinds and realized what the heck they had.
There were a few things (stuff I didn't think were necessary to the story, they didn't add or take away from the story, they felt like fillers and some questions that weren't answered) that bugged me and it is why my rating is what it is. But overall a good enjoyable read.
First off, this isn't a bad book, it's just not exceptional. It's a typical romance novel with likable characters. It's a friends to lovers story and although decently written there wasn't anything that really stood out for me. There were a few funny little moments as Haven's world is falling a part. Spencer is a decent guy willing to let his best friend move in with him after her life unravels.
What a wonderful story. Haven is a firecracker that's for sure. She's funny, passionate and witty. I <3 Spencer and the way he is with her. Problem is they're holding back their true feelings for one another because they're not sure how the other person feels. I can't wait to read more from this author. I voluntarily reviewed a copy via Quirky Blind Date with a Book.
This is a sweet best friends to lovers story. I really enjoyed the banter between Haven and Spencer's and all the other characters. It took a long time for Haven to realize who her true love was; and I was internally yelling at her when I figured it out early in the book. Enjoyable, quick read .
This is a love story with a difference. It was very easy to invest in the characters and to become entwined in their story. The writing simply flowed and before I knew it I had turned the last page. Totally captivating and worth a read.
Excellent love story. When you've been best friends and even family with a person you never imagine they might be the love of your life. Deserving of five stars except for all the errors.
Muriel Garcia’s “Love at First Glance” begins with the worst day of Haven’s life. She doesn’t like Mondays, but this Monday in particular is the pits. She finds a spider in her shower, breaks her favorite Louboutin’s, gets fired from her job, and walks in on her boyfriend of three years in bed with her so-called best friend. Having what she believes is the worst day of her life, she storms out of the apartment and to the safety of her childhood best friend, Spencer. Spencer is hot, hot, and hotness in a perfectly sculpted body. He is her best friend and of course lets Haven move in with her temporarily. She eventually moves out, much to Spencer’s disappointment, and finds another job, a better job, not too long after being fired. They are hysterical together and readers can see just how awesome they relate to each other. Haven moves into a great apartment that she falls in love with and discovers that her neighbor has a talent for making girls very happy when she is trying to sleep. Spencer immediately hates her hunky, drop-dead gorgeous neighbor and they begin arguing over Haven spending time with Val the hot neighbor. With all of this upheaval in her life, Haven realizes she was not truly happy before. “Thinking about it, my life before that fateful Monday wasn’t how I always imagined it…Losing everything was the wakeup call I so desperately needed to get my life back on track.” She is happy with this new life and wants to remain happy. However, the turmoil between her best friend and neighbor, as well as her ex-boyfriend wanting to get back together, doesn’t allow Haven to keep her happy bubble inflated for long. “Love at First Glance” gives readers ups and downs with Spencer and Haven’s relationship, hot, sexy men, and a happy ending. The first book of Garcia’s Love at Firsts series is a funny, warm book that is full of interesting characters that will leave you smiling and happy you opened the book to begin with.
This is funny, seriously so funny!!! I chuckled my ass off- it was a perfect tonic to the stresses of the day. Muriel Garcia this was a delight! Haven is such a special character, she is a hoot, staunchly independent and with a determination that gave her a personality that you couldn’t help but connect with. It is a rare thing to find a character like her, I’m not even sure she knew how hilarious she was. She had me completely spell bound or was that just too weak with laughter to move? Haven is happy on her own, she binned her ex and since then she has been hanging out with her long term friend Spencer. Their relationship is so tight that I wasn’t actually sure where it was headed, was it purely platonic? And if it was why? I think I could have read nothing but Haven’s escapades and I would have been happy but add Spencer to the story and my reading time just became a whole different experience. Spencer, well I think it would have been impossible not to love him, he is completely devoted to Haven, and he is so sweet and prepared to do whatever necessary to keep Haven safe. But her sexy new neighbour tips him over the edge and he has to make his move. Something has to change. They dither around quite a bit and every now and then I was a bit narked with the two of them but I liked the fact that the relationship between the two of them was given time to evolve. All too often this genre is guilty of insta-love – this is not the case, the pair take their time, they potter their way to the inevitable and while there is a hiccup or two along the way I was glued to the page. Fantastically constructed, beautifully expressive and refreshingly modern. Loved it!

This is my first read from Muriel Garcia and I adored it. Meeting Haven on one crappy Monday with a number of events from being told she was being let go, to walking in on her arse of a boyfriend and moving out of their home. Well, my favourite expression has to be....
Excerpt: Monday's suck big hairy balls
*Insert my hysterical laughter*
Have runs to her best friend and only family, Spencer. And of course naturally he is there in a heartbeat. Ready to do whatever he can. To help her love Mondays again!
Excerpt: I'll be okay.... Things will get better... I'll learn to love Mondays....
A tortuous journey of emotions, testosterone and what I like to call "peacock syndrome" where men feel the need to one better the other. Spencer and Have's journey is a long one but without the hiccups along the way neither would discover the truth. Find their happily ever after...
Excerpt A match made in heaven or hell, depends on the side.... Just a perfect match I'd say...
A brilliantly funny, "oh-I'd-totally-say-that" laugh out loud moments all jumbled together with heartache, frustration at wanting to knock some sense into some of the characters on occasions but overall a simply beautifully written read. I can't wait to see where this new series will go and enjoy more antics from Muriel's incredible characters.
Highly recommend this 5* read!

Firstly I have to apologize to the very sweet Muriel Garcia, who has patiently waited for me to be able to find my voice after all the tragedy that has befallen my family (I will explain in a different post). Thank you very much Muriel for giving me the pleasure of reading and reviewing your book.
Haven Lee is having a pretty bad freaking day. First, she gets laid off from her job at the magazine and then she walks in on her boyfriend getting very personal treatment from her best friend. So let's start with the obvious….who needs enemies with friends like that?? Haven handle it better than I would've. There would have been more blood and bodily harm, but hey that's just me. Thankfully Haven had her male best friend, Spencer to run to. Every girl needs that male best friend in my humble opinion.
Haven sets out to straighten up her life. Starting with getting a new job and moving out of Spencer's place. Figuring out her feelings and what she wants, or should I say who she wants, in her life.
Watching Haven and Spencer's banter and flirting is a hot but then you throw in the new neighbor who just happens to be hotter than sin. And who also wants in Haven's life (or pants - whichever happens first).
Love at First Glance, for me, was a fast sweet (and sweaty - at times) read. I enjoy watching strong women figure out who and what truly matters in their lives. We may have it all but we don't always realize that.
This book was sweet, funny and cute. An entertaining, easy-going read. I absolutely loved Haven. Her wise-ass, sarcastic humor had me entertained the entire time. I love a strong female character who takes no crap. Although Haven knows what she wants her in life professionally, it takes her a while to sort out her crap emotionally and there were times I wanted to slap both her and Spencer for being so dense. What I really would have loved in this book was a dual POV. There were times when I was wondering the heck was going through Spencer's head and I felt that reading his POV would have helped me understand his feelings and motivations a little better. Also, I'm a very A-Type personality and I found myself unable to create a clear mental picture of the smaller details of the characters physically (hair color, eye color, etc). The sex scenes were fantastic and had my skin tingling, I just would have preferred a few more of them. Muriel did a great job of giving us a glimpse of the lives of the secondary characters that we will see in books to come in this series. Overall, an enjoyable friends to lovers story that will fill you with warm feelings.
I received a complimenty copy of this book through Crazy Cajun Book Addicts for an honest review. 4.5 Stars
This book was very different to anything Muriel Garcia has written before but I really enjoyed it. Haven hates Mondays she loses her job, boyfriend and one of her best friends in just a few hours this Monday will change the course of her life forever. She turns to her very best friend Spencer no matter what happens he is always there for her as she is for him. She moves into his flat until she can sort herself out starting with a new job. Luckily for Haven things in her new life quickly start to fall into place when she moves into her own apartment and meets her sexy new neighbour Valentine. The problem is Spencer takes an instant dislike to Valentine and Haven has absolutely no idea why there relationship starts to suffer which is something neither of them want are their feelings for each other a lot stronger then they realise will they finally lay their true feelings on the table before its to late. A great read from Muriel Garcia and I'm looking forward to reading Spencer's POV next.
