Paul Robeson is probably remembered more now for singing Old Man River in showboat than anything else. He was considered to have the best bass voice of his time and it made the song memorable.
Robeson was lucky, missing much of the racism of his time as he grew up. He was brilliant. He became a lawyer, mastered 20 languages and used his singing and his voice to seek civil rights for blacks and workers before the movement began.
The government response was to blacklist Robeson.
This biography is written for young people. That makes it easy to read for everyone. This man was so much more than the singer of one song and deserves to have more people know about him and what he stood for. He is part of U.S. history that should not be forgotten.
