Walking Among the Cherry Trees is the first book in The Cook Brothers Series. This book contains profanity and graphic sexual situations. It may not be appropriate for readers under the age of 17.

I want to start this review by saying, I LOVE a book that can make me want to forget I’m a mom, and have responsibilities to do. Well, this book did that!!! It’s the kind of book that I’m pretty sure I know what’s happening, but I’m just not positive, and I want to keep reading to figure it out. It’s so good that I hate having to go to work, and take my kids to school, because I have to stop reading to do that.
If you’re looking for a sweet, second chance, romance this book is for you!
When Morgan was younger, she would come to stay with her grandmother, Virginia, every summer, in Cherryville. Cherryville is where she met Taylor, her first love, and the man she still thinks about. Morgan’s grandmother was a kind and loving woman, she gave her unconditional love, taught her to bake, taught her how to enjoy life, and feel loved!
It’s now 10 years later, Morgan is the CEO of her father’s company, has a life in New York City, but won’t let herself get too close to anyone. Her father has always been controlling, and only cares about her reputation, and how much money she’s making the company.
When Morgan’s grandmother, who she hasn’t seen in 10 years, passes away, Morgan finds out she is the heir, and must return to Cherryville to take care of her belongings. Of course going back to Cherryville will open up the memories, and feelings that she has tried to forget.
“How would I survive walking among the cherry trees once again? Would they know it was me? Would they still feel my pain? Would he be there? I fell in love in Cherryville. It was slow, beautiful, and all encompassing. I learned more about myself in the summers with Virginia than in a lifetime with my father. It started that first summer after she found me, when I was twelve years old, and lasted until my eighteenth birthday. I’ve shoved it away in a small compartment deep in the back of my mind, and I only hope when I step off the train this weekend, I can keep it from rushing to the surface and swallowing me whole.”
You read the first half of this book , mostly through Morgan and Taylor’s flashbacks. I will say that I really enjoyed that. I enjoyed reading both of their points of view, and also reliving their memories of each other. You know from the start that there is some kind of secret going on, something that Morgan doesn’t know, and the whole time you’re thinking “Is it what I’m thinking? Could that be? No, that isn’t possible….”, and it just made me want to stay on my couch, keeping turning the page, and not be an adult for the day.
Through their memories, you can feel the young love they had, and I just kept rooting for them, and hoping they could work it out. When Morgan returns to Cherryville, I was holding my breathe, just waiting for the first time they would see each other.
“I couldn’t deal with this right now. I knew it was him. I wanted to believe it wasn’t, but no other person had ever made me feel that way. He was still here, and even after ten years, he still had a hold over me.”
“Seeing her again was breaking me. All the pain I’d buried over the years was rising to surface. I couldn’t let her know that I still cared. I always had, and I always would. Morgan McGregor was everything to me. She owned me… heart, body, and soul.”
Morgan has a lot to take care of with her grandmother’s estate, and ends up in Cherryville for longer than expected. She falls right back into that small country town, and the simple lifestyle it holds. She starts thinking of the future, and possibilities….Can she run her business from Cherryville? Can she maybe work things out with Taylor? She starts to find reasons to stay a little longer, and a little longer……all while her father is breathing down her neck, and telling her to get home. Morgan and Taylor seem to be falling back into the easy friendship they once had……and maybe even more.
Then her meddling father emerges again, and just makes me mad! Her father had me wanting to throw my kindle against the wall! Finally a family secret is revealed, and when Morgan is emotionally destroyed, she runs back to the city, and the life her father made for her. But, it’s hard to run, when your heart is still in Cherryville.
“Had we torn each other down so much that we’d never get back what we had all those years ago? Back then, we’d seemed unbreakable, but my father had wrecked things so badly that I wasn’t sure we’d ever be strong enough to fuse us back together.”
I really enjoyed this book. I’m a sucker for second chance love stories, and this was another great one, with a twist. If there was one suggestion I could make, it would be that once you find out the secret, the book felt rushed and expected. I would have liked some more angst and conflict throw in at that point. But, overall, it was still a great book, and I can’t wait for the next in the series!!
I have mixed feeling with this book. On one hand, I thought that it was pretty good. The writing flowed and the story had a great pace. On the other, I just had a hard time connecting with the heroine, Morgan and some parts of this book was really hard for me to swallow. It was hard for me to buy in that she was one way in New York and another way in Cherryville. The difference between the two was so stark that it seemed like two different characters. I would think that the two would somewhat blend together a little more and not be so drastically different.
Morgan returns to Cherryville when her grandmother dies and she is left with her whole estate. Cherryville is where she spent her summer as a youth until something tragic happens and forces her hand. When she wasn't in Cherryville, she spent her time in New York City doing and being everything that her father expected of her. Once grown, she is still doing her father's bidding and is always under his thumb, no matter how much she hates it. I liked Cherryville Morgan. She was more relaxed, caring, and easy to relate to. NYC Morgan was an uptight, unfeeling, socialite that used men. Like I said already, it was difficult for me to wrap my head around the difference of New York City Morgan and Cherryville Morgan. I can somewhat understand the why the difference, but I just can't get over how drastic the two sides of her are.
Taylor lives in Cherryville. He spent his youth in love with Morgan until tragedy forces his hand and he has to push her away. When he hears that she is back, he is leery, but knows he needs to set things right with her. Once he sees her and talks with her, he is determined that she will be his again. He never stopped loving her, and she him. I loved Taylor. His steadfastness is one of the things that made me enjoy this book. His son CJ is a sweet addition to this story, one that I enjoyed a lot as well.
Walking Among the Cherry Trees was a well thought out book. I can tell the author put time into this story. Everything was smooth and, well, it's just well written. Emotions jumped off the pages and, at times, my heart ached for the characters. I just wish I could have made that connection with Morgan. I really think that if I could have, it would have elevated this book from good to great.
What can you say about a book that you literally devoured within 3 hours? Other than captivating!
This whole book was filled with moments of 'aww that's sweet' and moments of shocked 'no way' there were plenty of emotions and especially as a mother there are parts that I really connected with that made me want to crawl into book. I've never really taken to reading second chance loves as I always found it really hard to believe, but the mini flash back scenes I think helped connect me more with the characters. I also LOVE when authors do duel POV's!!! So what can I say? Heather D'Agostino was a new author to me but one I am very pleased to have discovered and I will definitely be looking to get more.
If your looking for something that makes you feel all warm inside and you put the book down with one of those contented happy smiles I would recommend this for you! Loved it
I received this book from the author for an honest review.
HOLY CRAP!! NO CLIFFY!!! Any fan of Heathers will be shocked to read this. Yes friends, noooo cliffy. She does do a great job setting up book 2 and making you giggle to know that someone will be groveling soooooon enough. Plus the fact that the setup is a man whore and gonna get his does make it all the better. OK enough about the ending. Let’s get to the story shall we.
Morgan is an over worked, unhappy woman in New York. She is closed off and miserable. She runs her family corporation but is just lost. You can feel her hopelessness. She does what she is supposed to do but is failing at true happiness. She is headed home to her grandma’s house to sell it. She is really not happy about going back to this small town. See this is where Morgan lost her heart and has never gotten over it.
Morgan goes home and begins to miss life here. It’s simple. It’s relaxing and it makes her happy. Her fear is to see HIM. Can she face him? Is he married? Does he think of her? Does he wonder about her??? Morgan soon makes friends with a local boy. She hires him to help her get her grandma’s house up to snuff so she can sell it? Stay here and run the company? What should she do???
Taylor is the local hardware shop owner. He and his son are living an easy small town life. He is happy and loves his son but is the rumor true? Did she return? Can they make it work?? The beginning of the book my stomach was a messssss!!! I couldn’t wait to have them see each other BUT I was freaking out much like Morgan. When they cross paths, Morgan RUNS and HIDES!!!! She isn’t ready for him and the fact she is still drawn to him. Well guess what Morgan, Moth meet flame cuz Taylor is just as drawn to her.
Taylor and her end up running into each other again. You can FEEEEEEEL the tension. You can TASTE the sexual chemistry!!! It is just so AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Right when Morgan has her life on track and her choices made, her father shows and a dark secret is let out. Morgan is none too thrilled and hurt but mainly DESTROYED!!!! Not knowing what to do she runs to NY. When Taylor shows up, the scene was soooo hawt and just insane. I mean take charge Taylor is panty melting!!!
I loved this book and cannot wait for the next installment. These Cook brothers are going to be the death of me I swear!!
I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
Morgan McGregor has a cold as ice heart she is business through and through. She is not one for relationships and when she has a man over they are never allowed to stay. When business is over sort of speak they are out the door. She has one person that means the work to her and she Morgan gets the call that her grandma passed away Morgan knows this means she will have to go back to Cherryville where she spent all her summers as a kid. Will she be able to face her past or will her past break her again?
Taylor Cook now owns his Dad's hardware store in town but most of all he holds a secret that will hurt everyone involved when it comes out. Now that Morgan's Grandma is gone it is only a matter of time before the secret surfaces.
My heart ached for Taylor and Morgan I loved watching them as kids and see their friendship turn to love, my heart broke for Morgan when Taylor pushed her away and sent her running home to her Daddy. It hurt to see how cold and callused Morgan was but see the transformation in her when she was in Cherryville warmed my heart. It was like she found where she belonged. Then WOW her father if you can call him that he was so cold and mean spirited how could anyone be so evil to their own flesh and blood.
I did have to giggle at the night club scene with Ty, Taylor's brother, and Morgan. That was a close one Morgan. I cannot wait for more of the Cook Brothers Ty is next and I want to know more about him.
Walking Among the Cherry Trees was the first book I had read by this author and I was blown away at how well written it was. I love second chance love stories and add in that this was a second chance with her first love; I was hooked from the blurb.
I fell in love with the characters. Morgan was a great heroine and her story tugged at my heart strings. She was a strong, independant woman; her one weakness was Taylor. She fell in love with him as a teenager; everything with him was perfect until he fell out of love with her and ripped her heart out. From that point on she put all her energy into her career. When her grandmother dies and she has to go back to Cherryville, running into Taylor is inevitable. Will she be able to handle all the emotions and survive the secrets?
Even the secondary characters were well written and easy to connect with. For me they added to the feel of the story and added extra charm. I loved the differences between the small town of Cherryville and New York; Morgan was completely different in Cherryville. I think that it was because she felt at home there. New York was more about her work than her personal life.
This book was full of emotions; I felt like I went through everything the characters did and at times this story had me crying and had my heart aching. Taylor’s secrets kept my interest from the beginning to the end. I was on pins and needles waiting to find out how their story would end. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.

3.5 Stars ★★★★☆
After reading this book I must say it was a good relaxing read. I fell in love with CJ's character (a 10 year old boy wise beyond his years). I must say though I had a hard time connecting a few things. I felt that sometimes the writing style got mixed up between sweet and angsty to just... ugh something else I can't pin point right now.
Morgan is a sweet woman split in two. For one, she has been driven by her father to become this overworked CEO shell of a woman in the heart of New York. She is cold and, dare I say, bitter. Her heart was broken 10 years ago and there is no room for vulnerability. She receives the news of her grandmother's passing and finds out she is left with a house and a key to a security deposit box holding a life changing secret. This means she will have to go back to Cherryville where she used to spend her summers with her grandmother and, her first love, Taylor Cook.
Cherryville brings out the real her along with a lot of painful memories of first love and heartbreak. I loveed the way Morgan and Taylor met, how their relationship evolved as they grew up. From childhood friends to first love, to first heartbreak, to second chances. No cliffhanger HEA.
Book 2 is about Tyler Cook and the teaser at the end of the book made me curious. Looking forward to more from the Cook brothers ^_^
This author is fairly new to me. I fell in love with her extremely suspenseful and captivating Witness series so I figured I would give her another go in her new contemporary romance series, which just happens to be one of my favorite genres. And this author did an amazing job giving me an intricate storyline that made me blush and kept me on the edge of my seat, flipping pages fast.
Who loves a second chance romance? This girl. Who loves some angst, steam and serious chemistry between characters? This girl. Well let me tell you, this author brought her A game with this book. It was sexy, sweet, fun, passionate, intense, a few twists/turns, and had an amazing second chance romance. This book will pull at your heartstrings and fiddle with your emotions along the way.
This is Morgan and Taylor's story. They once had it all and were in love until they were tragically torn apart. Its been years and now they are about to cross paths again for the first time. The hurt is still there lingering. The anger is still simmering below the surface. But the love and passion has never gone away, even after all this time. Secrets will be exposed. Lies will become truths. Can these two find a way to mend their hearts, heal their souls, and find their happy ending?
H. D'Agostino is one of the author I just one click without reading the blurb. I wasn't sure what to expect. I enjoyed reading this one. The prologue hooked me into the story.
Morgan is a very interesting character. She has had her heart broken and now is a only fun, no strings attached girl. She a very different then most of the book girls I read about. She hasn't step foot in Cherryville in 10 years. She had her heart broken there and hasn't returned. Her grandmother, Virginia, has passed away so Morgan returns to deal with her estate. Morgan kind of lives two different lives. When she's in Cherryville she is completely different then when she is in NYC.
While is Cherryville Morgan's past comes back to her. I loved that we got flashed backs so we could see what she had gone through. The boy she fall in love with, Taylor, is still in town. Taylor and Morgan have a past that has many secrets. Both Morgan and Taylor try to avoid each and fight the feelings they still have for each other. Their feelings are too strong to keep them apart. The past secrets they have has the potential to destroy them. I was kind of surprised how Morgan reacted when the truth came out. Her reaction was not what I expected.
Walking Among the Cherry Trees by Heather D'Agostino is the first book in her new series The Cook Brothers and it is absolutely amazing. Second chance at love battling against some big secrets and major heartbreak. The angst will make your heart hurt. Ugh, I LOVED it!!!!
Morgan is back in Cherryville to handle the estate of her maternal grandmother. She is hesitant, it has been ten years she was last here and had her heart broken, but her Corporate CEO persona needs a break and Cherryville could just be the exact medicine she needs to heal her soul.
Taylor is waiting in dreaded anticipation of Morgan's return. He has been spending the past ten years suffering from the impossible choice and terrible lies from back then. He knows with Virginia's passing that Morgan will be back and the possibility of the truth coming to light is petrifying and cathartic in equal measures.
This book will drag you in and not let you go until it has squeezed all your feelings out.
If you are a fan of second chance love stories than you should definitely check this book out. Heather has done a great job with writing this book and I look forward to the next in this series.
Heather and Taylor were in love until one day he pushes her away and makes her believe that he no longer loves her. She has stayed out of Cherryville for 10 years after having her heart shattered and has become a completely different person. She is no longer that girl that she was back than but one day she is forced to return to settle her grandmother's estate. Taylor is still in town and he has secrets that he has kept to himself all these years. They are the reason he pushed Heather away. Once they are revealed will the pain and betrayl be too much for Heather? Will they be able to find a way to make things work?
This book is full of so much and I don't want to give anything away but you should definitely check it out. I don't think you will be disappointed. The only thing I was disappointed about was that the book ended. I was so sucked into the book that I didn't want it to end but like all books they can't go on forever. Looking forward to more from The Cook Brothers series.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is one of those sweet second chance romance. Taylor and Morgan were in love back as teenagers but her dad stepped in and ended it. He wanted Morgan to be more like him and not herself. She went along with it but never forgot about Taylor. Her heart was always his. After hearing her grandma died, she goes back to the little town but finds so much more than she bargained for. What she thought was running into her love and befriending a child turned into so much more. I wasn't sure about Morgan at first, I wasn't sure she would change and stand up to her dad for herself and Taylor but she surprised me. Taylor is a remarkable man and so incredibly sweet. I hate that her dad had to be a jerk and ruin lives but when you're power hungry, you forget about the little things that really matter. Anyway, the truth comes out and both parties are able to realize that their love is strong and want to be a family. I so needed to read this book, I mean, sometimes you just a need a sweet hometown feel book and this is definitely one. This is also one of these books that helps you find yourself after being forced to play a part. It's amazing what can happen when you confront the past and move on with your life.
Get out your tissues this is a doozy. Morgan is head of a Advertising company in NYC known being beautiful but having a heart of ice. Relationships are on her terms only and they are mostly for scratching a inch. She wasn't always like this though; once she had dreams, once she felt love, once she was vulnerable. Enter Taylor, hunky hardware store owner in Cherryville and the reason behind Morgan's heart of ice. Cherryville is where it all began and where it all ends. Morgan returning Cherryville brings forth TONS of emotion and D'Agostino makes you feel them all. Morgan and Taylor once each others loves now void each other like the plague, but they can't avoid each other for long. OMG, the love that these two still feel for each other kills me and the secrets!!!! The secrets kill me a second time, so I'm double dead. The only thing that saves me is that this book has no cliffhanger!!! D'Agostino has once again written a series that will pull your heart out. Book Two now please I'm begging you!!!!
This was my first book by this author, and I loved it.
Morgan McGregor left Cherryville after a very traumatic event when she was younger. Now she's taken over her dad's company and is very successful, but she has no time for anyone in her life. She has to go back because her grandmother has passed away and left her everything, so she decides it's a good time for a break. What she doesn't want to happen is to run into the boy who broke her heart. Taylor Cook was her first love, and she never quite got over him. Will the feelings that Morgan has stuffed down deep come rushing back up?
Walking Among the Cherry Trees had me hooked from the beginning, and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. Character development is great, with a beautiful, well written storyline that flows smoothly. The author does a great job with adding in some big twists that blew the story wide open. The only thing I had a problem with is, I felt like the ending was too rushed. I cannot wait to read more from this author in the future.
The story has laughs, pain, secrets, suspense, love, betrayal, and heartbreak.
This is Morgan and Taylor’s story. Morgan and Taylor were in love years ago until one day Taylor didn’t love her anymore. She left town. Now 10 years later Morgan is back in town to settle her grandmother’s estate. When she sees Taylor again will it still hurt her? What happens when old feelings are brought to light? Can they try to form a relationship again? When secrets come out will those secrets shatter Morgan more than when she believed Taylor didn’t love her? Can they ever come back from this betrayal? Who all knew about the secret and kept it quiet? Can she forgive? Will this be the end of living for her father? Will she breakaway and finally live for herself?
I loved these characters and also the side characters. I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
Second chances with your first love. When Morgan returns to the place she considered home, she hopes to avoid the man who ripped out her heart and pushed her away. She is not longer the uncertain, young woman of the past but is now a successful businesswoman after being pushed to her limits by her father. She uses this time away to re-evaluate her life and what she wants out of life. Running into Taylor again was inevitable but the secrets he has kept from her are in danger of unravelling.
I really loved this story and the characters. I fell in with Morgan and Taylor easily and felt complete shock as the secret was finally revealed. This was a world that I easily got lost in and came out of it wanting more. I'm really looking forward to what comes next.
WALKING AMONG THE CHERRY TREES is a story of friendship, young love, tragedy, treachery, secrets, heartbreak and redemption.
When we first meet Morgan she is an ice queen, hardened by heartbreak. Her life for the last ten years has been a blur of one night stands and board meetings. When her beloved Grandmother passes she is forced back in time to confront her past and Taylor, the boy she never stopped loving. What happens when Morgan finds out that everything she knew was a lie and the truth may be worse than she thought. Can the truth set Morgan and Taylor free and bring them back to the future that they always wanted?
This is my Confession: This is the first title I have read by Heather D'Agostino, but it will not be my last.
♠♠♠ This is book one in the Cook Brothers Series and does NOT end in a cliffhanger ♠♠♠
Wow. I love this book. It is well written, smooth flowing and easy to read. The imagery is amazing. I could picture every scene as it were right in front of me. The characters, their emotions and the experiences they go through are depicted extremely well.
I loved the two main characters, Morgan and Taylor. As the story progresses we learn about them in both the present, but relive their memories to see who they were when they were younger, and what led them to where they are now.
That's all I can/will say at this point as I don't want to post any spoilers. I do recommend this book to romance lovers. I will be eagerly awaiting book 2 to see how the Cook Brothers story will continue.
This story is the first in a new series and it does not disappoint! Morgan is forced to go back to the one place she never wanted to return to and is forced to deal with feelings that were buried deep years before. Taylor thinks he is seeing things when he sees Morgan because there is no way she would come back after 10 years. This couple was torn apart and before we find out the hows and whys we are given a glimpse of how they fell in love. There is something or someone who could destroy them or maybe could bring them together after all of this time. Family lies and betrayal, old feelings, and love are all covered and covered well in this story. The characters are very real and they draw you into the story. I cannot wait for more in this series! Terrific!!
Loved it!! Another very very good book by Ms. D'Agostino! A long road to a HEA, but was so sweet when it got there. I cried at points, so keep a tissue handy. No they were not all sad tears, some were happy. I loved the flashbacks to when Morgan and Taylor were younger, when they first met, how they ended up apart with broken hearts, and why Morgan is how she is when we first meet her. They were childhood sweethearts, forced apart by a selfish and ruthless father. There are secrets revealed that are jaw dropping. I had a feeling, but the way the secrets come out, WOW. There is no cliffhanger!! YES! However, the ending sets up for Book 2.

Double WOW! If you like second chance romances, you will surely love this one! This is a very well written book with characters that you fall in love with. Morgan returns to Cherryville after being away for ten years. She is forced to face the only man she has ever loved, Taylor. Only it isn’t just Taylor, he also has a son who is such a sweet and important character in this book. There are a few twists and turns in the story and the ending completely melted my heart. I cannot say enough about how much I truly enjoyed this book.
Ink Angels Book Blog received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was amazing!!! At first I was skeptical whether or not I would appreciate Morgan, but as I continued to read her story I knew why she acted as she did. D'Agostino has done it again and as usual I am blown away by her incredible storyline.
I thoroughly enjoyed this read and would certainly recommend this for anyone's TBR list or bookshelf at home. Don't miss out on a terrific novel.
Loved this book of second chance love, thoroughly enjoyed it and I loved the way you find out what's happening before the main character and you have the anticipation for the drama that was going to unfold when she finds out, exceptional writing by the author. I have to say this I'm very much a cover led reader and I would not of picked up this book in a shop which would of been tragic, maybe a new cover would get this book read by people like me xx
I love Heather's writing and this book has got to be one of my most favorites. This is one of those you never see it coming stories that hit you right in the heart. I'm not one to spoil a great book so all I will say is this book gave me such a book hangover that I may just pick it up again this week and read it again.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
If you are looking for a second chance love story this book is for you. It is beautifully written and it captured me from the first chapter. I was left with wanting more. It is not a cliffhanger but the last chapter gives you a sneak peak into the next book (Ty's story) .
I really enjoyed this book till marker 50%.... At around this point I guessed the plot and was hoping it to play it that way but there were a couple of things that disappointed me. You will understand what I mean when you read it.
the story is told in present time with very nice flashbacks from past which tie up the story very nicely
SPOILER AHEAD
Morgan visits her grandma in CherryVille every summer since she was 12. Taylor is a resident there, his father owns hardware store. She and Taylor love each other dearly when they were 17 and 18 respectively. They have been friends since they were 12. They lost their v card to each other. Kudoos to them. But they were not careful and she got prego with their first time. Tragedy starts from this point. She is told that she lost the baby girl she gave birth to after a couple of minutes of birth. What really happened was, told later by Taylor to Morgan; Morgan tyrant of a father blackmailed a very young and very scared Taylor that he has to choose between his unborn son or Morgan otherwise he will have his powerful friends take away the baby from Taylor... Guess whom Taylor choose?
Anywho..... Morgan's father emotionally bullied her into a good school, continued to bully her until eventually she landed "CEO" of his company... not really. He was still pulling the strings. 10 years laters she has become this "tough" woman who has casual sex and kicks the men out of her life after having her pleasure. She is asked to come to CherryVille to see her grandma's will and what she left to her. Guess whom she runs into? Taylor and his son.... Yes you guessed right... that is her son too. Anyways CJ and her get along really well. She thinks that Taylor was double crossing her when they were together since the child is 10 years old which should put his dob around the time when they were together. Taylor does not want CJ to continue to meet her coz he is scared that she will find out the truth. He tries to stop CJ but cant stop him. Long story short, Taylor and Morgan chemistry is still there, their love is still there. They fall in bed with each other and make love all night. Next day shse disappears to visit their daughter's grave. He thinks she is not interested so he leaves too after leaving a letter for her. She is shocked that he thinks like that and decides to meet him but first she had to deal with her grandma stuff.... IN the meantime Taylor realizes that he needs to tell her about him which btw is a secret for the readers so far except for his siblings and sister in law who helped raised CJ. But he still does not tell her and he admits later that he was never going to tell her... Really?! CJ is her child too... Why would you do that to a woman you "love"? Anyways decision is taken out of his hand when she finds out herself from a birth certificate she retrieves from her grandma's belongings (Taylor knew that she will find out the truth when she will go thru her stuff). Her grandma apparently died in guilt too. A mutual friend conveyed to Morgan that her grandma hoped Morgan will forgive her.. Really?! Anyway Morgan is shocked. Now here is what it went down hill for me. Understandable angry and upset she goes to Taylor to confront him but she does not let him explain to her what really happened. Her only question was "does he know about me?" Taylor said no. She is understandably upset but does not say anything else except that she confirms with him that it was her father's doing. While the confrontation is going on CJ passes by, Taylor "begs" her not to tell him she is his mom and he does not want his son to find out like this or hate him. She doesn't. She is heartbroken when he admits that he was never going to tell her about CJ. But instead of confronting him or taking a stand or getting to know her son she leaves, goes back to NY to be a doormat to her father's commands again. Now her father had just visited her a couple of days ago and she had refused to come back to NY but now she is back and no confrontation with her father. Really?! The man made you lose 10 years of your son's life and made to lose the love of your life and you do nothing?! Just get lost in your job again. Oh what does she do the first thing when she goes back?! Instead of confronting her father which she had been thinking about throughout the way she goes to a club and decides to hook up.... lol. Interestingly, small world, her about to be hookup was Taylor's younger brother.
Four weeks went by. She is trying to lose herself in job, in clubbing, questioning whether she wants CJ in her life... wow?!!!!! BUt not do one thing that she should have done; confront her father. With time she starts to put CherryVille behind her. Taylor is in the meantime miserable too. He realizes that he should have told her... Really? He had her number fro the past 10 years (yes she had the same phone number. Of coure he didnt know that she used the same number but he had it and not once contacted her) . Now he contacts her and wants to talk to her but she does not answer. Understandable, anger and resentment but by this time it felt to Taylor and to the reader namely me that she had no interest in him and her son so he gives up and continues to hide the truth from his son coz really what was the point if she is not interested. Understandable.
Taylor and his older brother decide to visit NY to celebrate their younger brother's becoming the partner in his firm. Taylor knows that he needs to talk to Morgan and explain but he is disheartened by her behavior and blames himself for what went down. He is ridden with guilt and knows that she will never believe him after what he did. Anyways he and his brothers go to a club where he runs into Morgan who is dancing and flirting. They both are drunk and start to flirt with each other when they realize who they are. Taylor is disappointed in seeing how she is behaving and how she is made up; she is not the smooth Morgan he knew, this woman was a socialist that her father wanted her to be. He wants to talk to her, explain but she wants to have sex. Mind you in all this time and even now she shows no interest in CJ... I find that very odd... Really?! I mean I get that she is angry but .... Anyways Taylor puts his foot down when she continues to throw herself on him. "Sex does not solve everything" Taylor tells her.... But she does not want to listen and makes a run again but he follows her. they go to her apartment. Taylor throws some comments about how nice her place is and she taunts that she is after all CEO. She is this person who is used to luxury etc.; her attitude continues to disappoint Taylor and me. At last Taylor tells her what really happened that night she gave birth to their son. He apologizes continuously and claims that he still loved her. I got the feeling that he blamed himself for what Morgan had become now (this flirtatious and hard woman). She just stands there and says "I love you too" and that is it. They fall in bed and make love. Good everything all peachy. I am flabbergasted... She still does not talk about CJ or inquire ANYTHING about him. It is him who says that their son and he need her in his life.. She is just not showing any interest.. just sex.... Next day she wants to show him the city.. yes you read it right, show him the city, not what to see her son or confront her father but show him the city. Thank god she made a pit stop and decided to confront her father... finally. He throws some hard sentences like her son is a bastard and he will never be his grandson. She cries and screeches and throws a childish tantrum albiet some home truths... ... IN her own words "... I screamed and stomped my foot like a petulant CHILD..." He told her that he did it for her so that she could get the company. NOW she is shocked ..... Really?! DIdnt she realize it before? She quits and walks out on him. Now you do it girl but not a few hours ago when Taylor showed his concern on how they will manage all this, with her being CEO Of this company and him and CJ in CherryVille?! ANYWAY by that time I was so annoyed with her dad that I said FINALLY. GOOD For her. They go back to CherryVille (separately coz she had to wind up her stuff). She still does not show any concern or desire to see her son just hops in bed with Taylor. Next morning CJ walks onto them lol, yes he walk onto them while they are in bed. NOw she is concern about what he will THINK about her ACTIONS. Taylor is not worried. They talk to CJ at breakfast table. He is overjoyed after his fear that she didnt want him was assuaged coz he liked Morgan. HEA
So here is why i didnt give it 5 starts. .... I dont have a problem with his choice. But what he did afterwards that is messed up. I get that he was scared when they were 18 but was there no time between 18 and 29 when he couldnt get hold of Morgan and tell her what happened. He knew all along that she was in NY and CEO of a big company. He had been not involved with anyone and apparently really loved her so why not contact her when he grew up and tell her what he did. I am going to give him benefit of doubt that he was scared of her father's goons and what they might do to his son. But still he should at least have tried at one point in his life seeing that he still cared for her and loved her.
Morgan was really a childish character. The first time Taylor and she met after 10 years she is shouting at him and not on why he broke her heart but just because he wouldn't explain why he cannot let his son continue meeting her. I didnt get any feeling of love for CJ from her. Strangely she ws more friendly towards him when she didnt know that he was her son but afterwards she didnt show any interest in him other than her genuine fear that he might hate her. She cried at the grave of the child she was led to believe had died but she show no interest in CJ, really? She does not confront her father when she should have... She does not show any feelings for her grandmother deception. All she does is she goes clubbing and decides to flirt, her usual way of dealing with grief. This is my first book in which a woman loses herself in sex to deal with grief rather than the H. Interesting change!! Anyways continuing about her .... She does not show any real anger towards Taylor for what he did. Taylor grovels a bit but she made it too easy for him. Even then he is full of remorse. She does not show any interest in wanting to have a life with her son which is proven by the fact that she didnt give a thought to how they will manage when the topic of her "job" came in. It is Taylor who persuades her to be in their life.
Despite these short comings, I can buy the HEA. The book was sweet, heartbreaking.
