Grade: First or Second Grade
Summary: This is a tale about the fairy world. The Tooth Fairy is in correspondence with a little boy (Giant) in order to free her mother.
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book because it really takes the reader on the adventure with the Tooth Fairy. The pictures are captivating and add to the story really well.
In class I would have a discussion about what each child would demand from the Tooth Fairy. Everyone would draw and write their demands to be shared at their tables.
Another activity for a fantasy story like this might be an alternate ending assignment. In pairs students would have to come up with a different ending to the story.

The illustrations alone are completely magical. And the story is wonderfully inventive. A delight for young and old.

Genre: Fairy Tale
This book is the story of a tooth fairy who longs to find her mother. All she knows is that a giant saw her mother long ago and it turned her to a stone. One night while the tooth fairy is leaving a prize under the pillow of a giant she notices a blue stone in a box. The color of the stone resembles the color of dress her mother was wearing. The tooth fairy sends the giant a note asking for the stone, but the giant wants items in return. Nothing the tooth fairy has satisfies him. Eventually the tooth fairy is able to trick the giant and when tooth dust covers the stone, the tooth fairy's mother appears.
Activities:
1. Story pyramid: Have students complete a story pyramid on this story. For younger students the pyramid can be shortened by only writing five words to describe an event and then six words to describe the solution to the problem.
2. Have students write their own letter to the tooth fairy. In their letter they should include what they would ask for in exchange for a tooth, if they could have anything.

I would give this more stars if I could. We love this book, the children and I. The pictures are gorgeous.
