I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

I set myself up to not like this since I'm more of a Google/Pinterest cook then a cookbook person, but I was really pleasantly surprised. The beginning was chock full of some really useful nutrition information for pregnant women that wasn't a chore to wade through. The author's tone throughout was lighthearted and personable which made for a fun read with some really yummy sounding recipes mixed in. As a nursing mama, I was particularly appreciative of the last chapter on recipes to boost lactation.

My only criticisms were regarding 1. I thought the times for some recipes were a little unrealistic for busy, pregnant moms (though there was a 30 minutes or less chapter) and 2. Since this was an e-book I was somewhat annoyed by the formatting and lack of pictures.

Overall, I'll be hanging onto this to reference when I want some nutrition-packed meal ideas!

I sure wish the Healthy, Happy Pregnancy Cookbook: 130 Delicious Recipes to Satisfy You, Nourish Baby, and Combat Common Pregnancy Discomforts had been around when I was pregnant. The authors Stephanie Carke and Willow Jarosh, both registered dieticians, have written a comprehensive book that deals with caloric intake, weight gain, and healthy eating. Their recipes emphasize "clean" eating.

Some of the recipes you'll find in their cookbook include:

Apple Pie Teff Hot Cereal
Cod en Papilote with Lemon-Balsamic Fennel
Homemade "Green" Juice
Sweet and Salty Popcorn Trail Mix
Chicken Sausage Pizza on Whole Wheat Pizza Crust
Baked Mac and Cheese with Roasted Cauliflower
Dark Chocolate Pecan Banana Bites

This cookbook by two nutritionists is really great for learning about and treating common discomforts during pregnancy, postpartum and beyond without sacrificing taste or variety. This book helped me manage my cravings with yummy home cooked snacks and meals, reduce bloating, understand heartburn food-triggers and control my gestational diabetes by balancing my carbs and protein. The ingredients were mostly things I have on-hand because I cook healthy anyway. The recipes were simple and mostly pretty quick.

My husband and 2.5 year old love the black bean quesadilla recipe and the cauliflower mac and cheese recipe among others, so even though my baby is now almost 4 months old, I know I’ll be flipping through this cookbook for a while. I highly recommend this cookbook for moms to be.

Most pregnancy cookbooks provide us with a short chapter on nutrition and diet during pregnancy: eat this, avoid that, here are the "superfoods," and remember that "eating for two" isn't literal. But so many women still need ideas for how to incorporate more nutritious foods into their diets. This cute cookbook will be so helpful to so many expecting mamas! I love that the recipes are organized by common pregnancy issues--nausea (think protein, simple foods, extra B vitamins), heartburn (delicious dishes that don't have some common triggers, like onions or tomatoes), cravings (sweet without tons of added sugar, salty, crunchy), etc. And many of these recipes will appeal to the whole family.

I found inspiration with these recipes, some of them seemed even a bit too healthy for me, but there are some gems in here!
